Kate, Princess of Wales, to present women's singles trophy at Wimbledon

Washington Post12-07-2025
LONDON — Kate, the Princess of Wales, is set to present the trophy to the winner of the women's singles final at Wimbledon on Saturday after opting not to attend the match last year while she was recovering from cancer.
The All England Club said Kate, the wife of Prince William, will be back in the Royal Box on Centre Court for the match between eighth-seeded Iga Swiatek and No. 13 Amanda Anisimova . She will then take part in the on-court trophy presentation.

New photo of Prince George released as royals celebrate 12th birthday

A new picture of Prince George has been shared as the Royal Family marks his 12th birthday. The photo was taken by Josh Shinner earlier this year in Norfolk. The Prince and Princess of Wales often share photographs of their children with their followers - many of them taken by keen amateur photographer Kate - to mark special occasions such as birthdays. George was last seen at Wimbledon, and watched on with William and Princess Charlotte as Kate presented the Wimbledon men's trophy to Jannik Sinner. After becoming the first Italian to win a Wimbledon singles title, Sinner met the royals and signed tennis balls for George and Charlotte. Panathinaikos will be ready for Rangers, says boss Vitoria

Panathinaikos boss Rui Vitoria insists his side are ready for Ibrox on Tuesday night, despite a scant knowledge of Rangers. The Portuguese side arrived in Glasgow for the first leg of the Champions League second round qualifier with the return leg taking place in Athens next week. Tuesday's match will be Russell Martin's first competitive game in charge of the Glasgow club and also the first time he's managed in a European tie. The new boss will have the option of seven new recruits and opposition manager Vitoria admits it's been difficult to prepare with the lack of information on Martin's side. "Yes, it has been a challenge for me because I didn't see almost any games," the Panathinaikos boss said. "They have only played one friendly match against [Club] Brugge, which was open. The rest were closed so it was very difficult for us to have a lot of information, so this makes our job and my job as a trainer a bit more difficult. "But we are ready, we are ready. "Of course, we don't know the other team as normal, but I don't cry because of that. "I go and face the opponent and let's go and let's fight and put everything on the pitch. "He's a new coach and new ideas, so of course, it will be different football than previously here. "We tried to catch the information that we need, but, of course, we are in the beginning of the season. We don't know the details of the other team. Maybe the coach from Rangers has more information about us than us about them. "It will be the first time I'll play against a team from Scotland. Of course it's a football I appreciate and I appreciate the evolution the football has had in the last years with the good ideas. "The atmosphere is always fantastic and the fans want to be on the pitch. "But when we go to the pitch we only focus on the first 11 of the team."

'I want to feel the atmosphere'

New signing Anton Stach feels his style will "be good for the Premier League" after completing his £17m move from Hoffenheim to Leeds United. The 26-year-old midfielder has joined the Whites on a four-year contract, with the deal subject to a number of add-ons. Stach has spent five years playing in the German top flight and, at 6ft4, brings a commanding presence to both the centre of the pitch and defensively, while also providing a goal threat having scored 26 goals. He has made over 250 career appearances in all club competitions and also has two caps for Germany. "I am feeling really good. I am excited to join such a good team, such a good Premier League team, and I am looking forward to the next season," Stach told club media. "I would say I am an aggressive player. I am good in duels. I am good at anticipating passes from the opponents and it would be good for the Premier League. Now we will see, I will try my best! "The biggest target is to stay in the league and personally just develop, adapt to the league - to the speed, of course - and then get many good experiences hopefully. "I am really excited to play at home with the fans because I think the fans are really good here and as well away. "I want to feel the atmosphere because I heard and I saw so many videos of the fans, the promotion [parade] - over 150,000 people in the city. "That is awesome. That is crazy when the team has a connection to the city. When you have fans like this, they get you some points as well in the league." Stach becomes Leeds' sixth signing of the summer, with the Whites having also brought in defenders Sebastiaan Bornauw, Jaka Bijol and Gabriel Gudmundsson, as well as forward Lukas Nmecha.
