Human remains found in house confirmed as dad missing for six years
Human remains found in a house have been confirmed as a dad who vanished s ix years ago.
Richard Dyson, 55, was reported missing in 2019 but on July 14 a grim discovery was made inside a property in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.
Officers carried out tests after the human remains were reovered and police confirmed today, Saturday, August 2, that they belonged to the missing father. His family were informed, and are being supported by trained police officers.
Detectives have now launched a murder investigation. Two men, aged 72 and 71, were rearrested on suspicion of murder after the discovery, and have been released on bail. An investigation into the death is ongoing, reports the Mirror.
South Yorkshire Police's Detective Inspector Adam Watkinson said: "Our thoughts today are with Richard Dyson's family on what is an extremely difficult day for everyone who knew and loved him.
"We have supported Richard's loved ones throughout our investigation into his disappearance, and will continue to do so following this tragic news.

"The little girl was reported to be very hot, but otherwise appeared physically unharmed. We would like to acknowledge and commend the bus driver, who noticed something wasn't right and took immediate action." They said this had prevented "what could have been a far worse outcome." They added that the driver made the discovery after a passenger asked for access to the luggage compartment. Last month, a teenage mother locked her two-year-old daughter inside a blistering hot car so she could go and watch the new Smurfs film without interruption. Tripura Merriex, 18, was allegedly frustrated that her child's"loud crying" was "disturbing" a cinema trip with her siblings, so proceeded to leave the little girl trapped in the hot car alone, while she carried on watching the movie. The alleged incident unfolded at the Regal Cinema in Lake City, Utah, on Saturday, where Merriex is said to have left her vulnerable tot in her 2002 Cadillac Escalade. The 18-year-old parent has been charged with felony child neglect, according to US police reports. As temperatures skyrocketed to 40C, concerned witnesses called 911 to report Merriex and police were forced to bust a window to rescue the "distressed" child. In the arrest report, an officer said: "I applied a window break to the driver side window after observing the child in the front passenger seat." The toddler was "visibly distressed" when she was found trapped inside the vehicle, Law & Crime reports. Police allege that the two-year-old had "a flushed red appearance, was sweating profusely and was crying in distress". It is believed that the little girl was stuck inside the sweltering hot car for at least 30 minutes. When her mum eventually came out of the cinema, she was "very nonchalant", the police report claimed. Merriex claimed she "accidentally" locked her tot inside and "acted as though the whole situation wasn't a big deal as she just stood next to her vehicle". The young mum said she initially brought her little girl out to the cinema lobby to keep her from "disrupting other movie viewers' experience," the report continued. After doing this "a few times", she allegedly ended up leaving her daughter alone in the car. She left the Smurfs film occasionally to go out and check on her daughter, police claim, and even allegedly tasked her siblings with taking it in turns to check on her. Merriex is reportedly being held at the Columbia County Jail on $50,000 (£36,9600) bond. Police Chief Gerald Butler said: "Our officers acted swiftly to ensure the safety of this young child. Leaving a child unattended in a vehicle under these conditions is unacceptable. We are thankful the child is safe and urge all parents to prioritize the well-being of their children at all times."

They were detained by police on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent after the baby - who is only a one-year-old - was left fighting for life. The Mirror reports residents saw the tot being carried away from the property in Newport, Isle of Wight, and into an ambulance at around 11.30am on Saturday. The child was reported by locals to be "limp" before they were airlifted to Southampton General Hospital to receive blood transfusions, Island Echo reports. The man and woman are believed to be known to each other, and both have been released on conditional police bail pending further enquiries until November 1. Hampshire Police officers were at the scene outside the property for the remainder of the day. A spokesperson for Hampshire Police confirmed the probe. They said: "We were called at 11.34am on Friday, August 1 to a report of a child being taken to hospital with serious injuries. Police attended an address in Newport, to carry out enquiries in relation to this investigation. Child tortured to death by evil grandma after dad's feet amputated
James Alexander Hurley, known as "Alex" to loved ones, had been living with his paternal grandmother following the tragic death of his father. A tragic 12-year-old boy knew who plenty of tragedy in his short life was tortured to death by his own grandmother. James Alexander Hurley, known as "Alex" to loved ones, had been living with his paternal grandmother, Patricia Batts, and her husband, James Sasser, in Yellowstone, Montana, following the tragic death of his father, Tommy Tate. As reported by the Mirror, a devastating accident had left Tommy requiring multiple amputations, including both his feet. He died following complications from surgery in 2018 leaving he little boy was heartbroken. His mother, Alicia, who lived in Texas, had custody of Alex - however, it was decided it was best for the child to remain in Montana for the remainder of the school year. He'd settled in well at school and had made friends and he had a home with Batts and Sasser. On the surface, it had seemed like the right choice. However, by the summer of 2019, Alicia grew concerned about Alex, who would only communicate via text or Facebook messenger - never over the phone or FaceTime call. He also repeatedly told her he was too busy to speak. Alicia, worried, endeavoured to bring her son home to Texas to be with her, but was soon met with resistance from Batts, Crime Monthly reports. While Alicia tried in vain to contact her son, she had no idea that evil Batts had taken Alex out of school in September 2019, under the guise of homeschooling him. Alex was rarely seen by anyone else outside of the immediate household from this point on. Testimony later given by Batts and Sasser's daughter, Madison, sheds light on what life had been like for Alex behind closed doors. Madison, who was just a teenager at the time, was charged over her involvement in the devastating events, but was ultimately given probation in exchange for testifying against her parents. Addressing the court during the eventual shocking trial, attorney Elizabeth Montoya told of how Madison had witnessed her parents' torturous behaviour towards Alex, which included slapping, kicking and punching. Recounting how Madison has seen Batts and Sasser put Alex in "chokeholds and deprive him of love and attention", Ms Montoya added that this was an environment where "Alex was the enemy. Madison's parents were the generals, and the other kids in the household were soldiers". Alex's mum, Alicia, believes the sick couple were only motivated to keep her son in their care out of greed, as they'd been receiving social security benefits that should have gone to the little boy in the wake of his father's death. Alex died during the night on February 3, 2020, and when paramedics arrived at the scene, they found his body on the floor of the living room. He was bruised, with signs of malnourishment, but those in the household claimed not to know what had happened to him. In an attempt to paint her grandson as a problem child, Batts told investigators that Alex had been self-harming and hearing voices, having entered a downward spiral after his dad's death. It's believed she'd hoped this would explain away his grave injuries, but officers weren't fooled. An autopsy determined that Alex had died of blunt force trauma to the back of his head, while footage showing him being tortured was recovered from phones seized from family members. Batts pleaded guilty to deliberate homicide in May 2020. She also pleaded guilty to felony criminal child endangerment for failing to seek medical assistance for Alex after he was fatally injured, and to witness tampering by attempting to get family members to give false statements to investigators, as per NBC Montana. In August 2023, Batt was given a life sentence for killing Alex, and was also handed 10-year sentences for each of the other charges. District Judge John C. Brown stated at the time: 'This is a horrific case of child abuse. It was totally unnecessary, and it was done with malevolence." After she was sentenced, Batts issued just one simple statement: "I regret not being the grandmother Alex should have had." Meanwhile, in 2022, Sasser was sentenced to 100 years behind bars for his role in Alex's death. Sasser, who pleaded guilty to deliberate homicide, child endangerment, and tampering with a witness, acknowledged during his sentencing that he had failed to protect Alex.
