Restaurant spotlight: Hanu is the Korean spot in Dubai every meat-lover should visit
At Hanu, the focus is on exceptional quality: premium cuts grilled right in front of you, chefs who know their craft and enjoy sharing it – including Chef Kyung Soo Moon and Chef Wilson Shim – and a menu rooted in tradition but presented with modern precision. Dinner feels part tasting session, part cooking masterclass, all at your table. By the end, you'll find a new appreciation for top-quality meat done right, without heavy marinades. With its low-lit, artistic, laid-back energy, Hanu will have you telling your friends, 'you need to try this place.' The vibe

The journey starts at the entrance. A hammered bronze door that swings open into a space that's equal parts tradition and edge. Think modern Korean dining room meets royal heritage. Dark walnut wood, carved beam ceilings, gold accents, intricate artwork, antique Korean furniture, and stacked roof tiles – every detail is intentional. The lighting? Dimmed, warm, and easy on the eyes, setting the perfect chill mode. Must-try dishes
Everything. But let's break it down to what Hanu masters: Starters Beef Tartelette with Caviar – Beef jang jolim, caviar, soft quail egg
– Beef jang jolim, caviar, soft quail egg Beef Tartare – Yukhoe beef, Korean pear, egg, pine nuts, pickles
– Yukhoe beef, Korean pear, egg, pine nuts, pickles Crispy Kimbap – Mushroom rice, caramelised beef, truffle
– Mushroom rice, caramelised beef, truffle Hanwoo Beef Gyoza – Beef, shiitake mushrooms, kimchi hummus, chimichurri (hands down the best gyoza we've had) The main event

The beef – flown in from Korea – is grilled right at your table by the chef through their 'Meat Me At The Grill' experience. The chef's selection of four premium cuts (Hoengseong Hanwoo) are all about the natural flavour: juicy, clean, and rich. Every dish here was made with Hanwoo beef, including the gyoza, and all are soon-to-be menu additions. You can experiment with a selection of salts, though honestly, the meat doesn't need much. It's served with crunchy pickles, kimchi, salads and more. Don't miss Green Leaf Basket
Ban Chan
Scallion Salad
Truffle Egg Custard
Stew with Rice
Hanwoo Brisket Soybean Stew Dessert
Golden Pear Delight Did you know?
In traditional Korean dining, the stew (usually a soup-like dish) and white sticky rice are served at the end of the main course. It helps round off the meal and is believed to aid digestion – the ideal finish after a meat-heavy spread. The final say
Perfect for midweek plans when you're after something different, or weekend nights when the vibe matters as much as the food. Hands down, one of the best new restaurants in Dubai. For meat lovers with high standards – who know exactly how quality beef should be prepared – Hanu belongs at the top of your list.

IBC reveals finalists for 2025 Innovation Awards
The winners of the IBC2025 Innovation Awards will be presented on Sunday 14 September. IBC has revealed the finalists for the IBC2025 Innovation Awards, spotlighting collaborative projects that tackle real-world challenges and drive progress in the global media, entertainment and technology sectors. These awards are organised into five distinct categories: Content Creation, Content Distribution, Content Everywhere, Social Impact and Environment & Sustainability. Together, they showcase both technical innovation and societal contribution in a single celebration of industry achievement. Fergal Ringrose, Chair of the 2025 Innovation Awards Jury, said: 'We are very grateful indeed to our panel of judges for their wisdom and insight in choosing our shortlists as the standard of entries, from all around the globe, was so consistently high this year. Innovation never sleeps, and this year we can clearly see an evolution away from technology lurches enforced by the COVID-19 pandemic period towards greater refinement of innovation across the electronic media content creation, distribution and consumption ecosystem, often driven by advancing AI, hybrid and cloud-enhanced workflows.' In the Content Creation category, the finalists include MBC's collaboration with Pixtree and SK Telecom on AI-assisted video remastering for Korean broadcast content; NBC Olympics' IP-based editorial multiviewer system for gymnastics coverage at Paris 2024 developed with Avid, EVS, and NEP; and NHK Japan's 'Deep Ocean: Kingdom of the Coelacanth,' a 8K underwater documentary produced with ZDF/ARTE, OceanX, and others. For Content Distribution, standout nominees include the global live-streaming of the Crunchyroll Anime Awards, produced with the support of Amagi, AWS, Bridge Digital, and Pixelogic; Sky Group's MediaMesh, a cloud-native broadcast transformation project in partnership with AWS, SDVI, Telestream, and TMT Insights; and Olympic Broadcasting Services' hybrid streaming delivery platform for Paris 2024, developed with Alibaba Cloud. In the Content Everywhere category, Claro's innovative football viewing solution integrates a team-logo button on the remote control to connect users directly to live matches, with technical backing from Gracenote and Teleidea Middleware. Also recognised are the Alliance for Open Media, Intel, and Meta's SVT-AV1 encoder, which enables efficient streaming on low-spec mobile devices; and Pilipinas Live Shorts by Cignal, which uses AI from Quickplay Shorts and Twelve Labs to auto-generate and integrate user-generated content into vertical scroll feeds. The Social Impact category highlights initiatives with tangible benefits to society, including the Media Talent Manifesto's neurodiversity mentoring programme backed by Deluxe, Molinare, and Vizrt; SOUV by SNEWS, enabling remote Amazonian communities to share news content in partnership with Rede Amazônica; the Mobile Justice app, developed with the American Civil Liberties Union and powered by Jotto, Quadrant2, and Wowza, which empowers citizens to document law enforcement interactions; and France Télévisions' pioneering use of C2PA content authentication in daily journalism, developed with Dalet. In Environment & Sustainability, finalists include Nanlux's Evoke 5000B, a highly efficient lighting fixture that offers 75% energy savings compared to traditional tungsten lights; SK Telecom and Pixtree's energy-efficient UHD upscaling solution for IPTV, which supports 6.7 million subscribers and drastically cuts carbon emissions; and Germany's Green Film Shooting initiative, which promotes sustainable practices across the film and media industries. The winners of the IBC2025 Innovation Awards will be announced during a live ceremony at 18:00 CEST on Sunday, 14 September, on the main stage of the IBC Conference in Amsterdam. The event will also include the presentation of the IBC International Honour for Excellence, awarded for outstanding contributions to the industry, and the Best Technical Paper, selected from peer-reviewed research shared during the IBC Conference from 12–14 September.

Kdrama & Chill: Demon Hunters: The Netflix Animated Musical YDK You Needed
My friend Kareena, relentlessly pestered me about this new Netflix original, KPop Demon Hunters. At first, I was really hesitant. As someone who's obsessed with Korean dramas, I've developed a bit of a prejudice against anything that's a Western take on K-Pop or Korean storytelling. I was worried it wouldn't have the same authenticity, the same vibe that makes K-Dramas so addictive. Plus, it's an American animated musical fantasy film that sounded, honestly, a bit out there. But Kareena was persistent, and then I started seeing the song Golden everywhere on TikTok, Instagram, and even in clips of famous Korean singers trying to hit those insane high notes. The song immediately caught my attention. Koreans are incredible with their original soundtracks and a killer song can make or break a drama. So, my curiosity won over my skepticism. I sat down to watch it. The story and the world of Huntr/x KPop Demon Hunters centres on Huntr/x, a K-Pop girl group with a secret: they're actually Demon Hunters. Rumi, Mira, and Zoey lead these double lives under the guidance of Celine, a former hunter who raised Rumi. Their mission? To maintain and strengthen the magical barrier called Honmoon, created centuries ago by three legendary women to seal demons away from the human world. This barrier is powered by their singing, passed down from generation to generation, with the ultimate goal to form the Golden Honmoon, a final seal to banish demons forever. But, it's not just Huntr/x fighting the supernatural. The rival boy band, the Saja Boys, are secretly demons themselves, making the battle as much about music, dance, and pop culture as it is about good versus evil. The premise is fascinating, and it blends K-Pop culture with fantasy lore in a way I hadn't seen before. It's a musical, an action-packed drama, and a pop culture commentary all rolled into one. What worked and what felt a bit rushed Overall, I'd give the series an A. The animation is vibrant and slick, and the choreography of the performances is spot-on. The music, honestly, was the highlight. Golden alone is worth the watch, a powerful anthem with soaring vocals and catchy beats that stuck with me long after I finished the show. One of my favourite moments in Golden is Mira's line: 'Called a problem child 'cause I got too wild, but now that's how I'm getting paid.' It's such a sick line, rebellious yet empowering, and it perfectly captures the fierce energy of the whole series. I found myself hitting rewind just to soak it in again. That said, the storyline felt a little rushed in places. The pacing was quick, especially around the world tour and Rumi losing her voice. It felt like the plot jumped from one major event to another without giving enough breathing room for character development or emotional weight. But, maybe that's the trade-off when you try to pack a whole saga into a limited runtime. Another interesting note, the speaking voices and the singing voices were done by different people. While the singing was amazing, sometimes the mismatch between the character's speaking voice and singing voice felt a bit off-putting. It wasn't a dealbreaker for me, but definitely noticeable if you pay attention. EXO vibes and K-Pop easter eggs As a massive EXO fan, the Saja Boys instantly gave me strong EXO vibes. From their style and dance moves to their vocals, it felt like a respectful nod to one of the biggest K-pop boy bands out there. You can tell the creators really know their K-Pop, and the influences are clear, not just EXO, but other iconic groups too. Supplied: Netflix, Saja Boys If you love EXO or K-pop in general, you'll appreciate the details, from the slick choreography to the stylised performances. Honestly, that was the part that sold me. Put EXO energy on something, and I'm hooked. Supplied: SM Entertainment, EXO My Top Three Songs Golden – The powerhouse anthem that sets the tone for the entire show. Your Idol – Performed by the Saja Boys, this track is catchy, polished, and full of that boy-band charm. Take Down – A high-energy song that blends pop beats with the story's intense moments. All the tracks have that unmistakable K-Pop polish, making the soundtrack a treat on its own. So, should you watch it? If you're a K-Drama purist, KPop Demon Hunters might feel a little different, more Americanized in style and tone. But if you're open to a fresh take on K-Pop culture wrapped in a fantasy narrative, this animated musical is a fun, vibrant watch. The music alone makes it worth your time. Plus, it's cool to see K-Pop culture crossing borders and inspiring new stories, even if they come from unexpected places. I'm glad I gave it a chance, and thanks, Kareena, for not letting me miss out. So, if you want something a little different but still packed with catchy tunes, sharp choreography, and a bit of supernatural drama, KPop Demon Hunters might just be your next binge. 8/10. K-drama & chill Name: KPop Demon Hunters Where to watch: Netflix Directed by: Maggie Kang & Chris Appelhans Release Date: June 20, 2025 Check out more K-Drama recs here.

JLo in Abu Dhabi: Everything you need to know before the big show
Get ready, Abu Dhabi, the queen of sparkle, sass and all-out showstoppers is about to take the stage. Jennifer Lopez brings her Up All Night: Live in 2025 tour to Etihad Arena tonight, and whether you're there for the dance-floor anthems, the high-octane choreography or that viral skirt toss, you're in for a night of pure spectacle. From bedazzled bodysuits to beats that shake the arena, this is no ordinary concert – it's a full-scale JLo production, and it's going to be loud, glamorous and unforgettable. To help you plan the perfect night, we've rounded up everything from where to fuel up pre-show to the best spots to crash post-concert. Because while she may be 'Jenny from the Block,' tonight she's running the whole capital. Last week in Warsaw, she reminded the world why she's still that girl. Mid-performance, while thanking her fans, the gold glittery skirt she was wearing snapped off. One second it was there, the next it was on the floor. Creating a viral moment, she picked it up and threw it into the crowd like a party favour. One fan went home with couture, the rest went wild. This week the 'love don't cost a thing' singer is bringing that same energy to Etihad Arena for the only Middle East stop on her Up All Night: Live in 2025 world tour. But Jennifer Lopez is no stranger to the UAE. She performed in Dubai in 2012 and again in 2014. Earlier this year she headlined Saadiyat Nights in Abu Dhabi, with an open-air show that left fans screaming for more. This time, she's taking it indoors with a full-scale arena production. Doors open at 6pm, and if you're driving, plan ahead. The smart move is to make a full night of it. If you are heading home straight after the show, do yourself a favour and pack a snack, make a playlist, and accept the fact that you might be in traffic longer than JLO was on stage. But hey, if the post-show magic holds, the cars around you might get loud and hoot in harmony to Jenny from the Block . Where to eat before the show Whether you're lining your stomach for a night of dancing or just want to kick off your evening in style, these Yas hotspots are all a short stroll from Etihad Arena.
