Poorly discarded cigarette butts ignite house fire, causing over $1M damage

Collingwood's fire chief says cigarette butts tossed in a garbage can caused $1 million in damage to a home and displaced several people.
Emergency crews responded to the call around 10 p.m. Sunday night on Lynden Street and arrived to find heavy smoke and flames shooting from the house.
Firefighters were able to quickly contain the blaze.
Due to the damage estimate, the Ontario Fire Marshal has been notified. It's unclear if an investigator will be sent to inspect the situation.
There were no pets in the home and no injuries were reported.
The fire chief says six people have been displaced as a result of the fire.

(Supplied) A missing Cochrane woman and her young daughter have been spotted in Courtenay, B.C., Mounties say. RCMP are asking for help finding 30-year-old Ashley Bartley and four-year-old Marlie Myers, missing since July 12. Investigators say Bartley was seen at an ATM in Courtenay on July 18. It's believed she is travelling with a man, and they are in a 2017 dark-grey Chevrolet Silverado with Alberta licence plate CTK 2944. The truck is pulling a 2006 white Arctic Fox trailer with B.C. plate WPW65H. Bartley is described as 163 centimetres (5'4') tall and 59 kilograms (130 pounds) with long brown hair and brown eyes. Myers is 91 centimetres (3') tall, between 18 to 20 kilograms (40 to 45 pounds) with curly, dirty-blonde hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information regarding their whereabouts is asked to call the Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000. Those wishing to remain anonymous can also call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Sexual offender at large: Edmonton police

Edmonton police are looking for Prabhjeet Singh, a sexual offender who they believe is trying to flee the country before his court date. (Supplied) Edmonton police are warning the public of a sexual offender who is at large. Prabhjeet Singh was being monitored in relation to an incident involving a minor in May. Police say he removed his ankle bracelet that was monitoring him and are concerned he may try to flee the country before his court date on July 29. The 21-year-old's last known location was in a rural area around Range Road 195 near Sherwood Park on Sunday. Singh is 6 feet tall and weighs 173 lbs. He has black hair and brown eyes. Police say the man has ties to India and may be trying to make his way there. Anyone who encounters Singh is advised not to approach him and to contact police immediately. Anyone with information about Singh's whereabouts is asked to contact Edmonton police immediately at 911. Anonymous information can be submitted to Crime Stoppers.
