Pregnant woman and husband jailed for robbery and theft in Melaka
At the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court, Judge Haderiah Siri handed down Jasila's sentence after she admitted to robbing a 42-year-old woman of a gold bracelet worth RM12,000 in Bandar Baru Sungai Udang on May 28. The court ordered her imprisonment to begin from her arrest date on June 10.
In a related case, the couple pleaded guilty to disposing of the stolen bracelet at a pawn shop in Hulu Langat on the same day. Judge Rohatul Akmar Abdullah sentenced both to one year in prison.
Additionally, the Ayer Keroh Magistrate's Court sentenced the pair to five months' jail for stealing household items, including an LED TV and blankets, from their rented apartment in Kota Laksamana on April 26.
The couple, who were unrepresented, faced charges under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a dwelling. Deputy public prosecutors Wardah Ishhar and Muhammad Nazrin Ali Rahim handled the prosecution. - Bernama

Suspected snatch thief beaten to death in Cheras
KAJANG: A man suspected of being involved in an attempted snatch theft died after he was stopped and allegedly assaulted by members of the public in a residential area near Batu 9, Cheras. Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof said police received an emergency call at 11.10am on Tuesday (July 22) about a snatch theft attempt involving a 36-year-old woman working in a nearby kindergarten. "Initial investigation revealed that the male suspect was detained by people at the scene. "Police personnel were dispatched and found the man unconscious and lying on the ground with visible injuries," he said in a statement on Friday (July 25). Medical personnel later confirmed the man had died, believed to be the result of a beating, he added. "The suspect had no identification documents and is believed to be a foreign national. "A post-mortem was conducted on the same day, and the cause of death is currently pending laboratory analysis by a forensic pathologist," he said. ACP Naazron said eight locals aged between 22 and 72 were detained at 7.46pm on the day of the incident. "They have been remanded for six days until Monday (July 28) to assist in the ongoing investigation. "The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. Couple nabbed over theft of fire hose nozzles at Semenyih apartment
KAJANG: A man and a woman believed to be lovers have been arrested in connection with the theft of 26 fire hose nozzles at a high-rise apartment in Semenyih. Kajang police chief Superintendent Naazron Abdul Yusof said a report was lodged on June 30 after a security supervisor discovered that the nozzles, spanning from the 5th to the 17th floor, had been cut off and stolen. "On July 23, a closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording of the incident was shared on TikTok by a user under the name Fatimah HomeLifestyle, allegedly taken from a nearby residence," said Naazron. Based on the footage, police launched an operation and arrested the duo – a 43-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman – around 10.30pm on July 24. Investigations revealed both suspects have extensive criminal records. The man has seven prior drug-related offences and one criminal record, while the woman has eight drug cases and five criminal records. Urine tests confirmed that both tested positive for methamphetamine. The suspects have been remanded for three days from July 25 to July 27 to facilitate investigations under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft, which carries a maximum jail sentence of seven years, a fine, or both. Police have asked the public with information to contact investigating officer Sergeant Karunagaran at 012-244 9414 or visit the nearest police station.

Over RM90,000 worth of counterfeit watches, smartphones seized in Sibu raids
SIBU: Counterfeit watches and smartphones valued at more than RM90,000 have been seized in two separate raids on business premises around Sibu. The raids, at about 11am on Thursday (July 24), were carried out by 12 enforcement officers from Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry's Sibu branch with the cooperation of representatives from trademark-owning companies. Sibu Domestic Trade chief Kelyn Bolhassan said the enforcement operation resulted in the seizure of counterfeit watches worth RM48,312 and smartphones and accessories of various brands estimated at RM41,856. "This operation was carried out under Section 102(1)(c) of the Trademarks Act 2019, which prohibits the possession or control of goods bearing falsely applied trademarks for the purpose of trade," he said in a statement on Friday (July 25) He added that the ministry is committed to cracking down on counterfeit products in the market to ensure consumer rights are safeguarded. "Traders are reminded to always comply with the law. We will continue to work closely with trademark owners and other agencies to protect both consumers and intellectual property rights," Kelyn said. Under the Trademarks Act 2019, individuals found guilty may be fined up to RM10,000 for each counterfeit item, imprisoned for up to three years, or both. Companies may be fined up to RM15,000 for each wrongly trademarked item. KPDN urged the public to report any suspected business misconduct through the Ez ADU mobile app, via the website, or by contacting the Sibu branch directly through phone, email, WhatsApp, or by visiting the office in person.
