Parents' fury over three-day 'high octane' family festival they say offered 'less entertainment than a morgue'

Daily Mail28-05-2025
Angry parents have demanded refunds after a three-day bank holiday family festival was branded a massive letdown providing 'less entertainment than a morgue'.
Complaints and refund demands have poured in to organisers of the 'High Octane Family Fest Weekender' at Ffos Las Racecourse in Trimsaran, south-west Wales.
Some attendees said they lasted only 15 or 20 minutes before heading back to their cars and heading home - with one dubbing the event a 'total rip-off' and a 'shambles'.
The Northumberland-based company behind the event have issued a request for further feedback online, while blaming bad weather.
But many disappointed festival-goers say they are unhappy with the response, while urging those potentially turning up at future events to think again.
Criticisms included prices for not only entry but what attractions there were, a shortage of rides and only scant food and drink vans available for refreshments.
Robyn Morgan, who went with her family last Saturday, has condemned the event as 'absolutely shocking'.
She wrote on social media: 'Please don't waste your money - we lasted 15 minutes.'
Disappointed visitors have shared pictures online of what faced them when attending
She described the festival as being 'not as described, even today when the weather is nicer'.
She outlined what appeared to be on offer as 'one ramp for the BMX bikes', adding: 'Teacups, trampolines, one ride and a crazy maze. One burger van, one sweet stall, one ice cream van, and you can see it all stood in one place.
'Balloon baskets were there but not inflating balloons, a character stitch walking round, no music, no atmosphere.'
Ms Morgan added: 'Such a waste of time and wouldn't really keep the kids entertained. They shouldn't be able to get away with advertising this and certainly shouldn't be charging for tickets.
'I've seen more entertainment at a morgue. It is absolutely shocking.'
Another attendee on Saturday, who has asked to remain anonymous, told WalesOnline: 'I have just returned from the event today at Ffos Las advertising motorbikes, medieval jousting, giant funfair. It was not as advertised.
'There were three men on BMX bikes - who were pretty good in all honesty - a hot air balloon that didn't go up, five very expensive fairground rides.'
She described the 'one burger van and a sweet van' as 'overpriced', while also highlighting the apparent absence of a bar and live music.
She added: 'I got super-early bird tickets at £13.45, but some people have paid £30/ticket. I have asked for a refund of my tickets.'
The event was held on three days across the bank holiday weekend between 10am and 8pm.
Tickets were being sold on Friday in a 'flash sale' for £3 each but adult attendees who bought their tickets earlier in advance are said to have paid between £13 and £30.
High Octane Events advertised the festival beforehand as 'unforgettable'.
A post on the firm's social media last week said: 'This time next week we'll be putting the finishing touches on a wonderful weekend of hot air ballooning, live music, fairground rides, motorbike shows and more!'
High Octane Events has since followed up on Facebook with a statement seeming to address the backlash after the event went ahead.
The message stated: 'Thank you for joining us this weekend. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at the Ffos Las event this weekend! We truly appreciate your support and energy, it means everything to the High Octane Events team.
'Unfortunately, the poor weather impacted our schedule and some parts of the show didn't go ahead as planned.
The Facebook statement from the company has attracted more criticism in people's replies
'We completely understand that this may have been disappointing for some of you, and we want to sincerely apologise if the experience fell short of expectations.
'If you were unhappy with any part of the event, please don't hesitate to message us directly - we're here to listen and make things right wherever we can.
'Thank you again for being part of the High Octane Events community. We're already working hard to make the next one even better!'

Expanding carbon capture project ‘marks significant moment for Welsh industry'

Expanding carbon capture and storage negotiations marks a 'significant moment' for industry in Wales, Jo Stevens has said. The Welsh Secretary welcomed fresh negotiations to plug two more energy generation projects into the developing HyNet North West carbon capture network project, which will see emissions captured and permanently locked away. A new power station at Connah's Quay, Flintshire, will be added to a list of three schemes which are already classed as priority for a deal. The power station at peak output is expected to produce enough clean energy to power the equivalent of 900,000 homes. The Ince Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (InBECCS) project in Cheshire, England – which is designed to use waste wood to generate low-carbon energy – will also be prioritised, according to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. 'This is another significant moment for the growing clean energy industry in Wales,' Ms Stevens said. 'It's fantastic to see North Wales at the forefront of the carbon capture industry and the hundreds of new jobs being created by the HyNet project will help drive regional growth as well as accelerating our drive towards lower bills and energy security.' The Government expects these projects will secure an additional 800 jobs in North Wales and north-west England, industry minister Sarah Jones has said. 'We are securing the jobs of the future, the power for our homes and the protection of our planet by becoming world leaders on carbon capture and storage,' she added.

In a dramatic climax after two months on-screen, host Maya Jama told the stunned couple they'll be taking home £50,000. Angel and Ty finished in fourth place, with the smitten couple saying they couldn't wait for their relationship to start in the outside world. In third place was Yas and Jamie who gushed about their romantic connection. However, "mean girl" Helena Ford was spotted "rudely" talking to Angel in the background of Yas's interview. There was a famous divide between the girls, with Yas, Shakira and Toni being isolated from the rest of the villa. However, they finished in the top three after gaining massive support from fans. The entertaining final saw clips from yesterday of the remaining couples wake up to their last day in the villa, before the girls were sent out to buy breakfast for the boys. They then got suited and booted ready for the finalists' dinner where the stars got emotional as they all confessed their feelings. Toni broke down in tears as she told Cach how much she cares about him. The night took a turn as Maya grilled Tommy and Ben live on the show about their romances with Lucy and Andrada, respectively, ended. Maya Jama takes swipe at Love Island's Harry as he celebrates reaching the final with Shakira after Helena romance Both boys had gone exclusive with their other halves but cheated on the same night at a showbiz event - with the SAME girl. As well as some Islanders finding love, it's been the sexiest series in the show's 10-year history ever since Helena took Harry into the Hideaway just 56 hours after meeting. It led production to order in more condoms to ensure there was protection available. It's also been the least committed bunch of Islanders - with only one official couple in the final week. Meg Moore and Dejon Noel-Williams became boyfriend and girlfriend after a tumoltuous eight weeks. However, they were kicked out on Sunday night by the axed stars who returned to vote off the least compatible couple. This year has also been incredibly promiscuous for some, with Conor Phillips taking the crown for being in the most couples of any series with a total of eight girls. In another first, Toni became the first-ever American contestant in the UK series when she joined as a bombshell from Las Vegas. It was also the first finale to have so few original islanders in the final four. Everyone but Harry and Shakira joined as bombshells sporadically throughout. 8 Host Maya Jama looked incredible all dressed up for the final

Welsh AI Firm Launches Platform to Cut Waste and Boost UK Steel Industry

A Cardiff firm has launched an AI-powered platform designed to help steel manufacturers to reduce waste, lower carbon emissions and improve production efficiency. from Nightingale HQ (NHQ), is purpose-built for the reinforcement steel industry and has already worked with manufacturers such as Midland Steel to use digital tools to address practical, day-to-day challenges such as automating data extraction, optimising reinforcing bar (rebar) production planning, and monitoring environmental impact. The firm said the launch comes at a critical time for the industry, aligning with the UK Government's newly announced £725 billion infrastructure investment strategy. The strategy, which emphasises large-scale public infrastructure development, is underpinned by digital innovation and a strong commitment to achieving net zero. In line with the UK strategy, the Wales-made platform can impact the wider UK market by finding waste-cutting opportunities beyond the ability of human effort, helping manufacturers increase revenue and save tonnes of steel from scrap, the firm said. Steph Locke, Head of Product for NHQ, said the new platform would bridge the gap in the sector, helping manufacturers leverage AI to increase competitiveness. Steph said: 'For us as a Wales-based tech scale-up, we're excited about the opportunity to support local steelmakers during this transformative time. Investment in Tata Steel's transition to electric arc furnace technology at Port Talbot represents a major turning point for the sector and opens up long-term opportunities to apply new technologies to old challenges. 'Looking wider, under the UK's new Infrastructure Strategy, steelmakers will face increased pressure to be more efficient and sustainable, yet the majority lack the digital tools required to meet these expectations. Major projects such as the Sizewell C nuclear power stations and offshore wind expansion will require millions of tonnes of rebar so efficiency isn't just environmentally responsible, it's economically essential. 'That's why we feel now is the perfect time to officially launch which can deliver powerful, no-code AI directly to production teams without expensive software or technical expertise. We're already working with some of the biggest manufacturers in Europe, and our ambition is to have a wide-reaching impact on the UK steel industry.' Globally, the rebar market is set to reach £325 billion by 2031, driven by infrastructure growth and government investment. At the same time, ongoing UK/US tariff uncertainty highlights the importance of innovation and cost-efficiency for maintaining competitiveness.
