MACHANG: The Attorney General's Chambers will re-examine the case of a motoring influencer who staged his disappearance, which triggered a large-scale search-and-rescue operation in Muar, Johor.
The influencer, Tengku Nizaruddin Tengku Zainudin – better known as Ija – and his younger brother Tengku Abdul Aziz were sentenced to one month's jail and fined RM1,500 each on Friday.
Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said although the pair had been sentenced, his office would conduct a thorough review of the charges and facts of the case.
'I cannot comment further at this point because sentencing falls under the jurisdiction of the court.
'But we will look into the matter again comprehensively. That's all I can say for now,' he told reporters while attending an event at SK Pulai Chondong here yesterday, according to Sinar Harian.
On July 15, Tengku Abdul Aziz, 30, lodged a police report claiming that Tengku Nizaruddin, 38, had gone missing.
The report prompted a four-day operation involving more than 70 policemen.
Fire and Rescue Department personnel also carried out more than 10 high-risk dives in muddy water at a river where the car the influencer was driving was located.
Police later found inconsistencies in the information provided and broke the case.
The incident sparked public outrage and frustration among rescuers.
