New Delhi: Securities and Exchange Board of India ( Sebi ) chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey has met corporate affairs secretary Deepti Gaur Mukerjee to discuss ongoing investigations into Gensol Engineering , among other regulatory matters, a person aware of the development told ET.The meeting, held in the national capital on Friday, came amidst a crackdown on Gensol by the ministry and regulators, especially Sebi, over alleged fraud and corporate governance lapses.Last month, Sebi barred Gensol's promoters-brothers Anmol and Puneet Jaggi-from accessing the securities market and ordered a forensic audit of the listed renewable energy company, after an interim report of the regulator flagged fund diversion by the brothers and governance lapses. The corporate affairs ministry ( MCA ) also launched a separate probe into Gensol and 18 related entities, including EV cab service provider BluSmart Mobility . The probe is expected to be completed within 3-5 months, a senior official said last week. The Jaggi brothers have also allegedly misused term loans extended to Gensol by state-run lenders Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (Ireda) and Power Finance Corporation (PFC).Pandey and Mukerjee are also understood to have discussed routine regulatory matters during their meeting. Queries sent to MCA and Sebi on Monday remained unanswered until the paper went to press.Following a Sebi reference, the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA) has launched a preliminary enquiry into Gensol's books. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), too, is reviewing the FY24 financial statements and statutory audit reports of Gensol and BluSmart.Sebi started examining the matter after receiving a complaint in June 2024 alleging manipulation of share price and diversion of funds at Gensol.Gensol's share price had scaled a peak of ₹1,126 a piece last fiscal, with a market capitalisation of around ₹4,300 crore, according to the regulator's interim report. But by April 11, 2025, days before Sebi released the interim report, the share price had crashed to ₹133, driving down the market cap to just ₹506 crore. On Monday, the shares closed at ₹65.50 apiece on the BSE, down 2% from the previous close.

NSE monthly Electricity Futures receive decent participation in 1st session

Mumbai: The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE), which launched the Monthly Electricity Futures (ELECMBL) contracts, said on Monday that it has received healthy participation. The move can be seen as a significant step forward in the development of India's electricity derivatives market. According to NSE's data, 6,863 contracts traded during the market hours, representing a value of Rs 149.81 crore. The first trade opened at Rs 4,430/MWh and settled at Rs 4,364/MWh. Meanwhile, its intraday high and lows stood at Rs 4,430/MWh and Rs 4,301/MWh, respectively. The kind of interest that the newly-launched derivatives got, reflected healthy participation across participants, including power generators, discoms, large industrial consumers, and market intermediaries, NSE said. The exchange said the introduction of electricity futures derivatives will give participants a clear, risk-managed platform to support long-term power planning, hedge against volatility in electricity prices, and support India's larger energy transition objectives. NSE is the biggest derivatives exchange in the world by trading volume (contracts), as per the Futures Industry Association (FIA) data for the year 2024. Based on data from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the company started operations in 1994 and has been the biggest stock exchange in India in terms of total and average daily turnover for equity shares every year since 1995. Trading, clearing members, and listed companies are subject to the exchange's and SEBI's rules and regulations, NSE said. It is ranked second in the world in the equity segment by number of trades (electronic order book) in 2024, as per the statistics maintained by the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE). Meanwhile, the Indian stock market ended the first trading session of the week in negative territory, amid selling in IT stocks and fresh global trade tensions over US tariffs. Sensex closed at 82,253.46, down 247.01 points or 0.30 per cent against last session's closing of 82,500.47.

Shakti Pumps invests Rs 12 cr in solar arm SESL for new manufacturing plant

Shakti Pumps (India) announced that it has invested Rs 12 crore in its wholly-owned subsidiary, Shakti Energy Solutions (SESL), to support its expansion into solar cell and module manufacturing. SESL, incorporated in September 2010, is currently engaged in manufacturing solar structures and rooftop systems. The company is now setting up a solar DCR cell and solar PV module manufacturing facility at Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh, with an installed capacity of 2.20 GW. The investment will be made through the issuance of equity shares from time to time, as per the agreement between the parent company and the subsidiary. As the investment is being made in a wholly-owned subsidiary, it does not qualify as a related party transaction and hence, the arms length pricing norms are not applicable, the company said in a regulatory filing. It added that no government or regulatory approvals are required for the transaction. The company also clarified that the investment does not fall under the related party transaction. Therefore, an arms length basis is not applicable. Shakti Pumps (India) manufactures solar pumps, energy-efficient stainless-steel submersible pumps, pressure booster pumps, pump-motors, and other products. The companys consolidated net profit jumped 22.9% to Rs 110.23 crore while revenue from operations rose 9.2% to Rs 665.32 crore in Q4 March 2025 over Q4 March 2024. Shares of Shakti Pumps (India) fell 1.01% to Rs 911.35 on the BSE.
