Romit Raj says Shilpa Shinde called off their engagement after 6 months of dating, admits defending her during Bigg Boss: ‘We never met after that'
Speaking to Siddhant Kannan about his past relationship, he said, 'Yes I dated Shilpa but that was 16 years ago. We met on the sets of Maayka. I had been in Mumbai for 10 years by that time and I had not been seeing anyone for that time and Shilpa is a very nice person, she was very helpful and kind to the technicians around and was very nice to me. We dated each other for six months while working together and I just felt that we should get married and she felt the same way.'
Revealing the reason behind them parting ways, he said, 'I told my parents she is the one but after six months we realised that we aren't meant to be together and that it will not work out if we get married. And I think it was good decision on her and my end. We are strong headed personalities and we have a very strong point of view. She was the first person to call off the marriage.' He added, 'We have never been friends after breaking up, we never met also.'
However, Romit was quick to come to Shilpa's defense when trolls targeted her during her stint on Bigg Boss 11. Explaining the same, he said, 'When Shilpa was in the Bigg Boss house people started writing to me like, 'You are very lucky that you didn't marry her.' They started saying rubbishing things about her and I don't know why but I don't like anybody saying wrongs things about her. You can't judge anyone by watching them for an hour on a show. She is a kind and intelligent person and after I supported her, she won the show three months later.'
Romit also dismissed rumours of their relationship turning 'ugly' and called their decision to part ways 'sensible'. He refuted claims that his family had been demanding towards Shilpa and her family. He said, 'My parents never interfere and they have never been demanding.'
After parting ways with Shilpa, Romit moved on and married Tina Kakkar. The couple later became parents to a daughter.
