surveyed over 200 companies in the ASEAN-6 (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam). The report noted that the combination of predictive AI, GenAI, and
Agentic AI
is contributing to enterprise innovation by enabling intelligent and personalised engagements at scale.
Going deeper, the report found that 92% of knowledge workers in Indonesia are already using GenAI tools at work, surpassing global (75%) and Asia Pacific (83%) averages. Agentic AI promises to push the gains of GenAI to new heights, and countries with high penetration rates will benefit more quickly.
The transition from passive '

' to 'Active Completion Agents' is expanding across various business applications. These autonomous systems can now plan and execute multi-step tasks beyond chatbot capabilities.
What's more? Agentic AI comes at a time when enterprise organisations are facing significant problems across the workforce.
For Southeast Asia, with employee burnout at a record high of
83%
, emerging technology solutions like Agentic AI could help in two main ways. First, it can ease the pressure on employees by sourcing tasks and actions to AI. Secondly, it can be used to support adaptive employee services, products, and experiences.
In summary, Agentic AI has the potential to support individual executives across each department of the enterprise, boosting productivity and engagement while easing the critical levels of
staff burnout
seen in recent years.
With high levels of AI adoption already present, the switch to Agentic AI is the next natural stage of evolution and one set to bring transformative benefits to the satisfaction of team members.
The move from AI as a tool to AI as autonomous assistance
Enterprise teams are likely to have a strong relationship with AI tools already for certain tasks and workflows. For instance, most recruitment platforms already use AI to filter through resumes, while GenAI is used to draft job adverts and emails. AI can also help with professional development coursework and screen requests coming through to HR.
This means that the shift to Agentic AI will be an evolution. As Agentic AI solutions begin to emerge, workplace tools are beginning to act independently, make decisions, and execute complex workflows with minimal human input.

, which require recruiter intervention, an Agentic AI hiring system could refine job descriptions, adjust outreach strategies based on candidate response rates, and handle logistics end-to-end.
In summary, Agentic AI promises to relieve the burden on hiring teams so that they can focus on recruitment strategy and company culture initiatives. However, cross-organisational buy-in will be key.
Work across departments to deploy Agentic AI
While an estimated
25% of enterprises
are planning to deploy AI agent technology in 2025, this figure means that the vast majority of large organisations are yet to recognize the potential of this tool.
For decision-makers still on the fence, it's important to temper the benefits of agents, such as reducing unnecessary costs arising from process inefficiencies, human errors, and manual processes, against potential risk factors to move forward with the decision. For large enterprises, concerns typically relate to integration complexities and legacy dependencies. Internal data silos, ethical considerations and governance challenges.
These are all valid challenges that need a clear plan of action. For this reason, cross-functional teams are the ideal candidates to spearhead the adoption of AI agents in 2025. This is because they have the clearest insights into where cross-functional handoffs might create friction, the departments with the most pressing need, and the occasions where high-value activities may stall due to fragmentation.
A sensible starting point lies with high-performing employees with a strong mastery of cross-functional processes. These individuals can use these to create pilot projects that allow AI agents to learn how to handle complex organisational workflows and the tasks within that deliver toward the set goals.
Another sensible strategy is to deploy agents in clusters so that they can learn from each other and make decisions that drive efficiency and productivity. It's also important to remember that these don't exist in a vacuum. While AI agents represent a leap forward from existing co-pilot tools, even the actions of a human co-worker need to consider colleagues and other contributions.
This means AI adoption needs to involve the employees who will work alongside these intelligent digital assistants to monitor progress, create performance feedback loops, reward good performance, and tackle friction points head-on.
With these pilot projects underway, enterprise organisations can move off the starting block in 2025 without delay and prove the business value of AI agents needed to justify further usage.
Governance of AI Agents within the Enterprise Model
The demand for AI agents will rise further as the competitive advantages of their autonomous actions become clear. For enterprise organisations, this will demand strong governance.
As with all forms of AI, the capabilities of AI agents directly correlate to the data at their disposal.
This has a major impact on how quickly an ROI can be generated.
Although the excitement around AI means that two-thirds of the respondents to Forrester Research's
2024 State of AI Survey
believe their organisations would require less than 50% return on investment to consider their AI initiatives successful, this percentage doesn't need to be the standard. While some degree of error has been accepted as standard within AI, there are strategies available to reduce the associated risks that pose a concern for business leaders.
Leaders need to agree in advance on quantifying what leaders class as 'good enough' in terms of results and agreeing on acceptable error rates. Research from Ness

These don't need to stretch across every system and process, especially not in the earliest stages. As with human co-workers, AI agents can be applied to the pressure points most in need of support or which deliver the highest-impact activities.
From here, the technology can be trained and optimised to perform autonomously within this area, rather than striving for enterprise-wide performance and excellence, which will require significant time and resource investment. With these hotspots clearly identified, guardrails and governance can be applied to allow these agents to work autonomously with appropriate management.
Agentic AI represents a transformative shift for enterprises, transcending basic automation to introduce systems capable of planning, decision-making, and execution with minimal human intervention.

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 28 (ANI): Research & Development (R&D) has to be stepped up by the industry and academia, which is a constant pain point, highlighted experts in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) during a fireside chat at the ongoing 'AI for India' event in Bengaluru. 'This is an opportunity. R&D must step up, and this effort needs to be implemented across the industry and in academia. I must empathise with the industry; there are pain points they face in adapting to changes, not just AI, but to pretty much anything disruptive. So we need industries to step up, but we also need academia to step up, and this is an opportunity,' said Ganesh Ramakrishnan, Professor at IIT Bombay. Speaking about the change in classroom learning at IIM Bangalore, Rishikesha Krishan, Director, said that they have already witnessed the industry asking students questions about how they will utilise AI in areas such as digital marketing, etc. He said, 'This year itself, in our placement interviews, we found companies asking prospective candidates. Questions like if you have to make a digital marketing plan for the company, how will you use AI tools to do it more effectively, what tool will you use, how will you go about it?, etc. - so that's what's happening on the employer side. So what we are trying to figure out right now.' Krishnan further added that the focus of academia is 'co-creation'. 'We want the human being and the AI to work together. We don't just want some output of that GenAI engine,' he added. During the event, in a separate discussion about areas where traction has been witnessed, Gourav Gupta of India 2W TVS Motors stated that the company's AI is being utilised in manufacturing efficiencies, equipment efficiencies, predictive maintenance, safety, and other areas. 'In terms of consumer-facing activities already at our end, we are working in the area of, uh, conversational AI. We're working already in the area of, uh. You're familiar with voice AI as well, so whenever our call centres are interacting with our consumers, the entire sentiment analysis and other aspects are being actively worked on. The third area is now leveraging marketing and tools. In fact, I'm more than happy to share with you a look at what our team has now leveraged and put across an entire AI-generated advertising campaign as well. Uh, you know, so in terms of making sure that, uh, and using GI content that is very specific to consumers, that's an area that can always evolve even to higher levels, and the third area is actually for employee engagement,' Gupta added. Sateesh Seetharamiah, of CEO EdgVerve, said, 'We are seeing close to a 40 to 50 per cent improvement in productivity.' 'AI for India' summit aims to create a platform for actionable collaboration among industry leaders, deep tech startups, academia, civic bodies, and policymakers, according to the official release by AI4India. AI4India is a public-interest initiative working to build India's AI ecosystem through open innovation, ethical research, and collaborative capacity building. But the true value of AI is being captured by a smaller subset of companies that go beyond tool deployment to fully redesign workflows, according to a new report from Boston Consulting Group (BCG), AI at Work 2025: Momentum Builds, But Gaps Remain, released today. Strong Adoption, but a Frontline Stall—and a North/South Divide The third edition of BCG's annual survey, based on responses from over 10,600 workers across 11 countries, reveals that while AI adoption is strong overall, only 51% of frontline employees are regular users—a figure that has stagnated. Meanwhile, the Global South continues to lead in adoption, with India at 92% and the Middle East at 87% as the nations with the highest levels of regular use. Yet these two high-use countries also report the greatest fear about automation's impact, far higher than the 41% of all global respondents worried their roles could disappear within the next decade. "India is leading the global AI charge, with 92% of employees regularly using GenAI tools —well ahead of the global average of 72%. The country also ranks among the top nations experimenting with AI agents, with 17% of employees reporting integration into their workflows, placing India in the global top three. However, this rapid adoption brings new challenges. Nearly half (48%) of Indian employees fear job displacement over the next decade, highlighting a growing sense of uncertainty. Furthermore, only about one-third of the workforce feels adequately trained to fully leverage AI's potential. As we move from early adoption to delivering real business impact, Indian enterprises must invest in structured training, in-person coaching, and leadership enablement to scale value both responsibly and inclusively," said Mr. Nipun Kalra, Managing Director & Senior Partner; India Leader - BCG X, BCG. Three Key Levers to Boost AI Adoption Proper Training: Only 36% of employees feel adequately trained in AI use. Those who receive five or more hours of training—especially in person and with coaching—are significantly more likely to become regular to the Right Tools: Over half of respondents (54%) say they would use AI tools even if not authorized, with GenZ and Millennials especially prone to bypass restrictions. This "shadow AI" poses rising security Leadership Support: Just 25% of frontline workers say their leaders provide enough guidance on AI. Where leadership is engaged, adoption and employee optimism are markedly higher. Workflow Redesign: Where Real Value Emerges The companies that are truly unlocking AI's full potential are those going beyond deployment to reshape entire workflows. These organizations are: Investing heavily in people transformation—proper training, change management, and anticipating evolution in the value created by AI better with tangible resultsEmployees report saving more time within each work time is spent on strategic tasks and higher-quality greater belief that AI is improving decision making and engagement. 'Our research shows the real returns come when businesses invest in upskilling their people, redesign how work gets done, and align leadership around AI strategy.' AI Agents: The Next Frontier Three in four employees believe AI agents—smart digital assistants capable of independent task management—will be vital for future success. Yet only 13% say these tools are currently integrated into workflows, and just one-third understand how they function. As familiarity increases, fear fades—and workers begin to view agents as collaborators rather than competitors. Strategic Priorities for Leaders The report outlines four imperatives for organizations committed to moving from tools to transformation: Stop underestimating the importance of training. Commit appropriate levels of investment, time, and leadership the value you are generating with AI through improvements in productivity, quality, and employee in your people to reshape workflows and unlock AI's value. Anticipate AI's impact on work, individual workers, and the workforce. Build an upskilling and reskilling capabilities to support workforce deployment. Experiment rigorously with agents to accelerate the experience curve. Track impact and potential risks via A/B testing. 'Companies that reshape their workflows and invest in people are seeing superior results,' said Vinciane Beauchene, Global Lead on Human x AI at BCG and a report coauthor. 'But that transformation must be accompanied by a clear people strategy and development engine to boost adoption and tackle the impacts it will have on work, the worker and the workforce.'
