Charlie Woods, Tiger's son, competing in Junior PGA Championships at Purdue

This week's 2025 Junior PGA Championships at Purdue's Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex will bring future professional golf stars to central Indiana.
It may also bring one of the established greats of the game to West Lafayette as a spectator.
Charlie Woods' name appeared on the entry list Sunday for the four-day tournament, which begins Tuesday. He is the son of 15-time PGA major winner Tiger Woods. Tournament organizers typically have held off confirming Woods will appear at events until closer to the start.
Charlie Woods is one of 312 golfers — 156 apiece in the boys and girls tournaments — who will compete on the Kampen-Cosler and Ackerman-Allen courses. Past winners include recognizable pro tour names from Inbee Park to Trevor Immelman.
Top-ranked competitors for this event include Luke Colton and Giuseppe Puebla on the boys side and Asterisk Talley, Yujie Liu and Anna Fang on the girls.
The 16-year-old Woods won the American Junior Golf Association's Team TaylorMade Invitational in May. His father, who won the U.S. Junior Amateur three times, was seen following his son at the same event last week. Tiger Woods has also occasionally served at his son's caddie at tournaments.
Tiger Woods also competed in the Junior PGA Championships during his stellar amateur career. He finished runner-up to Chris Couch in 1990.

The family shared a viral moment last year when the son, playing with his father, achieved his first hole-in-one at the PNC Championship. In March, Tiger Woods announced he suffered a ruptured Achilles while training at home for his return to the PGA Tour.
Admission is free for the tournament, as is parking at nearby Ross-Ade Stadium. Fans can take golf cart shuttles to the event.

Young shades Rai for Wyndham lead, Aussie Scott falters

American Cameron Young has a one-stroke lead over defending champion Aaron Rai with play in the second round of the Wyndham Championship suspended by lightning. The PGA Tour's regular-season finale was halted on Friday afternoon with lightning in the area of the Sedgefield Country Club. The bad weather moved in as Australia's Adam Scott slipped down the leader board, likely dashing his chances of making the FedEx Cup playoffs. The round will resume on Saturday morning. Young and Rai were among those still on the course when play was called. Young had just birdied 14 and 15 to get to seven under for the round and 14 under for the tournament. Rai, from England, had six birdies through 13 holes completed. South Korea's Im Sung-jae shot 64 for the second straight day and shares the clubhouse lead with Mac Meissner at 12 under. Meissner fired a seven under 63 to climb the leaderboard. Mark Hubbard is alone in fifth at 11 under following a 66. After a strong first round, when he was just four shots off the lead, Scott fell back into a tie for 41st. He was one over for the second round through 14 holes to leave him four under for the tournament. The 45-year-old fired two birdies in a bright start to the front nine but matched that with two bogeys. A double bogey six at the 10th had him on the back foot before he scrambled a birdie at the 13th. 6-under thru 12 🔥 Defending champion Aaron Rai is the new solo leader @WyndhamChamp. 📺 Golf Channel — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) August 1, 2025 Unless he can pull off something extraordinary, Scott will miss out on securing a spot in the playoffs starting next week. The Aussie needed to finish with a two-way tie for third or better to have a reason to fly to Memphis, something that was likely to require shooting 20 under in Greensboro. Meanwhile, fellow Australian Karl Vilips shot a three-under 67 in his completed second round to be tied for 22nd and six under for tournament. Joel Dahmen, the first-round leader thanks to a white-hot 61, was even par through 10 holes on Friday to remain at nine under.

Cameron Young in the lead when Wyndham Championship halted by storms

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Cameron Young made two straight birdies to move ahead of defending champion Aaron Rai and then stuffed his tee shot on the par-3 16th into 6 feet when storm clouds gathered and halted play Friday in the Wyndham Championship. The second round was to resume at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, and the third round would be played in threesomes starting on both nines at Sedgefield Country Club. Young is considered among the best players to have not won on a major tour, twice contending into the final hour of major championships. He has seven runner-up finishes on the PGA Tour, including the British Open at St. Andrews. Young was at 14-under par. Rai, who won his first PGA Tour title a year ago at the Wyndham Championship, was at 13 under and had just missed the green to the left on No. 14. Mac Meissner had a 7-under 63 and Sungjae Im shot 64 to post at 12-under 128 from the morning round. Mark Hubbard shot a 66 and was another shot behind. Hubbard needs at least a three-way tie for second to advance to the postseason. The Wyndham Championship is the final tournament in the regular season, with the top 70 advancing to the lucrative postseason. The 36-hole cut was shaping up to be 4 under — possibly 3 under if scores got worse when the round resumed Saturday — and that meant some seasons were over for players like Adam Hadwin and Zach Johnson. Max Homa was at 1 under with five holes to play and in dire need of birdies and then a big weekend to avoid missing the playoffs. Adam Scott, at No. 85 in the FedEx Cup, was at 4 under and playing the 15th hole. Young has no such concerns at No. 40 in the FedEx Cup. He is playing Greensboro — he earned an economics degree at Wake Forest — to build on ambitious goals ahead of him. That starts with getting to the Tour Championship and picking up as many points as he can for Ryder Cup consideration. Young grew up in New York — his father was the longtime head pro at Sleepy Hollow — and he had this Ryder Cup circled since the PGA of America announced it was going to Bethpage Black on Long Island. Even with a win this week, Young could only move as high as No. 15 in the standings. The top six automatically qualify in three weeks, after the BMW Championship. 'For me it's not necessarily about this week. I've got a goal. In the middle of September I'd like to be in New York playing on that Ryder Cup team,' Young said. 'If I can achieve that, I can achieve a lot of things over these next four weeks. So I'm trying to keep that in mind rather than the little things along the way. 'Not that winning a tournament here would be little, but I think for me kind of looking off in the distance in that way I think will help me just keep trying to trust what I'm doing and build some confidence along the way.' Meissner is at No. 152 and would have to win to advance. Also at stake is finishing in the top 100 at the end of the fall events to keep his card. Gary Woodland delivered the shot of the day, a 7-iron on the par-5 fifth hole that went in for a rare albatross 2. He wound up with a 64, and would have a shot at the postseason with a big week at Sedgefield. 'I've been playing well for a while, and Randy Smith, my coach, has been bugging me to stay patient, just try to hit the shot that's required and have fun,' Woodland said. 'When you're not getting the results you want, that's the hardest part is probably to have a little fun. 'I'm in a lot better place than I was a year ago, so trying to enjoy it a little bit. It was nice to see some go in today.' ___ AP golf:
