Captain Umang N Jani, Head of the Aviation Department at Indus University, reacted to the AAIB's preliminary report on the Air India AI171 crash, highlighting that a mid-air fuel cut-off could lead to both engines shutting down — a scenario consistent with the reported sequence of events. He explained that engine startup and operation follow a strict automated sequence and stressed the importance of further investigation. Jani noted that the final report may provide deeper insights into the technical failure that caused the fatal incident.#airindiacrash #ai171 #aaibreport #fuelcutoff #aviationexpert #umangjani #aircrashinvestigation #aircraftsafety #airindianews #breakingnews #aviationinsight

Fraudsters pose as govt officials to dupe A-I crash victim's kin, FIR filed
The family of Vardi Chand Menaria, a victim of the Air India flight AI171 crash, has filed a complaint against two individuals, who allegedly tried to deceive them by pretending to be government officials and a Supreme Court lawyer to help the family get compensation, The Indian Express reported. The flight, bound for London, had crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport on June 12, killing 260 people. According to the FIR, the accused claimed they could help the family get compensation worth ₹8 crore-₹10 crore if they agreed to sign some documents. The police have registered a case under Section 329(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for 'criminal trespass'. This offence carries a punishment of up to three months in jail or a fine of ₹5,000. Vardi Chand Menaria's son, Deepak, said in his complaint that on the evening of July 17, he received a call from a man named Bhupendra. The caller introduced himself as a representative from the central government and said a 'secret verification' would be conducted at their home by a team from Delhi and Mumbai. He asked Deepak to arrange a copy of his late father's passport and ticket, the news report said. Duo visits house, pressures family to sign The next day, on July 18 at around 7:45 pm, a man and a woman arrived at the Menaria home in Rundeda village in a car bearing a Gujarat registration number. They entered the house and spoke with Deepak's mother, making confusing claims and eventually introducing themselves as representatives from the Supreme Court. 'When I returned home, they pressured us to sign and put thumb impressions on some documents related to a supposed case against Boeing in America,' Deepak said. He refused to sign without understanding the purpose. Eventually, the two left the house at around 8:40 pm, the news report said. FIR filed after legal authority's intervention On July 19, the same individuals returned and parked their car a kilometre away from the family's house. Sensing danger, Deepak called his neighbours and the Vallabh Nagar police station. The police arrived and took the two to the station. However, Deepak claimed that the station house officer refused to register the FIR and asked him to collect it from the superintendent of police's office as he had lodged a complaint there. It was only after Deepak approached the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) that the FIR was officially filed on July 29, the news report said. The crash, one of the worst air disasters in India in decades, involved a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner that crashed into a medical hostel complex in Ahmedabad's Meghani Nagar area shortly after takeoff on June 12. Of the 242 people onboard, 241 were killed, with only one survivor. The total death toll stood at 270, including casualties on the ground.

Fraudsters tried to dupe us saying they would sue Boeing: Family of AI 171 victim
The Udaipur police have lodged an FIR after some men allegedly tried to dupe and mislead the family members of Vardi Chand Menaria, who lost his life in the Air India flight AI 171 to London which crashed moments after taking off in Ahmedabad on June 12. The men, allegedly posing as representatives of the central government and a Supreme Court lawyer, claimed that they would get the family Rs 8-10 crore compensation, and pressured them to sign certain documents. While the incident is from July 18-19, the FIR was lodged on July 29 on the directions of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA). It has been lodged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 329 (3) for 'criminal trespass', which carries a maximum imprisonment of up to three months and a fine of Rs 5,000. In his complaint, Menaria's son Deepak Menaria said that on the evening of July 17, he received a call from a person who identified himself as one Bhupendra, saying that he will come for verification on behalf of the central government. 'I was told that a team from Delhi and Mumbai will come to my house and 'secret verification' will be done, so for this, a copy of my late father's passport and ticket will be needed. They tried to lure me saying that if I file a case against Boeing, I will get Rs 8-10 crore,' he wrote in his complaint. In a purported audio recording of the call, the man is heard telling Deepak to keep it a secret, because if he speaks about it to relatives, they may start seeking money too. 'On July 18, around 7:45 pm, a man and a woman reached my house in Rundeda in a Gujarat numbered vehicle. Both of them entered my house and started talking in a confusing manner to my mother. My mother called and told me that two people had come. I immediately reached home and found them sitting in my house, claiming to be from the Supreme Court,' he said. 'They pressured me and my mother to put my thumb impression and sign some documents. When I asked them the purpose, they spoke about a case against Boeing in America. When I told them that I will file a case, the duo unethically pressured me to give my thumb impression and signature on the documents,' he alleged, adding that after he did not yield, both of them left around 8:40 pm. The next day, he sought assistance from the local police, but claimed that they weren't of much help. Later in the day, around 4:30 pm, the alleged fraudsters parked their vehicle a kilometre away from the Menaria residence and walked the rest of the distance. As they repeated some of the things they had said the day before, Deepak called his neighbours for help. Subsequently, police from Vallabh Nagar police station reached his residence and took the men to the police station. Deepak alleged that the Station House Officer of Vallabh Nagar police station did not lodge an FIR, saying that he should collect it from the SP's office since he had already lodged a complaint there. He claimed an FIR was lodged only after he approached the DLSA. Udaipur Superintendent of Police Yogesh Goyal said that, 'An FIR has been lodged. As per the primary inquiry, some advocates and some locals wanted (the family) to become their client and file a case against the airline. They wanted to take their consent, as per the initial investigation. However, the family says that they were persisting on a regular basis.'
