Days after Trump claimed credit, Coca-Cola announces new cane sugar Coke. But classic recipe stays

Indian Express7 hours ago
Days after US President Donald Trump claimed he had convinced Coca-Cola to swap out high-fructose corn syrup for cane sugar, the company has confirmed it will release a new version of Coke made with US cane sugar—though its flagship product will remain unchanged.
As per CNN, in its quarterly earnings report Tuesday, Coca-Cola said that as 'part of its ongoing innovation agenda,' it would launch a new cane sugar version of its cola in the fall, intended to 'complement the company's strong core portfolio and offer more choices across occasions and preferences.' Some regional versions of Coke, such as the Mexican variant, already use cane sugar.
Last week, Trump posted on Truth Social that Coca-Cola had 'agreed' to use cane sugar in its colas. However, the company's announcement clarifies that the traditional Coke recipe sold in the US will continue to include high-fructose corn syrup.
The move aligns with a broader push from Trump's Health and Human Services Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has publicly railed against high-fructose corn syrup. As per a report by CNN, in a September appearance on Dr. Jordan Peterson's podcast, Kennedy called it a 'formula for making you obese and diabetic,' as part of his ongoing campaign to eliminate artificial and ultra-processed ingredients from American foods.
High-fructose corn syrup has long been used in US-made Coca-Cola because of its low cost and abundance, especially compared to cane sugar. Health experts warn, however, that neither ingredient makes soda healthy. While cane sugar may seem more 'natural,' nutritionists continue to flag sugar-sweetened beverages as major contributors to obesity, diabetes, and other chronic health conditions.

Putin Dollar Shock For Trump After BRICS Declaration? Russia's Big De-Dollarisation Announcement Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov clarified that BRICS nations don't aim to replace the US dollar, but rather seek alternatives for mutual settlements to circumvent US sanctions. He stated BRICS intends to trade in national currencies, with Russia already conducting 90% of payments with partners in local denominations. This counters US President Trump's concerns and threats of tariffs on BRICS countries, who are also developing "BRICS Pay," a decentralized blockchain payment system for cross-border transactions. 42.2K views | 2 days ago

Mexico seeks return of 14 nationals held at US ‘Alligator Alcatraz' facility

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Tuesday said that 14 Mexican nationals are currently being held at a US detention center, 'Alligator Alcatraz,' and that her government is working to have them repatriated immediately.'All arrangements are being made to ensure they are repatriated immediately to Mexico,' Sheinbaum said during her daily news those detained are brothers Carlos and Alejandro Gonzalez, whose father, Martin Gonzalez, shared their story with local radio station W. He said Carlos, 26, was visiting the U.S. on a valid tourist visa when he was pulled over by a state trooper for not having a car registration. When Alejandro arrived to provide the missing document, he was detained as well. Both were then transferred to the detention 'The facility is completely sealed off—no sunlight, lights on 24 hours a day. They don't know if it's day or night,' their father said. 'Obviously, my sons are desperate to get out of this situation.'The facility, located about 37 miles from Miami in a dense subtropical wetland known for its population of alligators, crocodiles, and pythons, has drawn attention for its harsh conditions. US officials have reportedly used the facility's remote and intimidating environment to demonstrate a tougher stance on immigration under President Donald Trump's administration. Since Trump took office on January 20, a total of 73,533 people have been returned to Mexico, 67,008 of them Mexican nationals, according to US Department of Homeland Security has not commented on the brothers' case. Meanwhile, Mexico's consul in Orlando, Juan Sabines, stated in a video shared Monday that the brothers remain in 'legal limbo,' as their appointed lawyer does not have access to their case file, and no judge has been assigned yet. - EndsMust Watch

This was treason: Trump accuses Obama of rigging US presidential elections

US President Donald Trump accused former President Barack Obama of "treason," saying Obama led a plan to wrongly connect him to Russia and hurt his 2016 presidential campaign. Since taking office in January, this is the most serious accusation Trump has made against repeated remarks made by Tulsi Gabbard, his intelligence chief, who said Obama officials should face prosecution. Gabbard released documents and called the 2016 events a "treasonous conspiracy" by top Obama officials to damage Trump said, "It's there, he's guilty. This was treason. The witch hunt that you should be talking about is they caught President Obama absolutely cold ... They tried to rig the election and they got caught — and there should be very severe consequences for that."RUSSIA TRIED TO INFLUENCE US ELECTIONAccording to news agency Reuters, US intelligence reports found that Russia tried to influence the 2016 election to help Trump and harm Democrat Hillary Clinton. But these reports said the impact was limited and showed no proof Russia changed votes.A Senate report in 2020 said Russia worked with people like Paul Manafort to interfere with the election to support Trump's often calls these investigations a "hoax" and recently shared a fake video showing Obama being arrested. Democrats say the claims are false and politically motivated. Congressman Jim Himes wrote, "This is a lie... there was no evidence of politicisation in the intelligence community's actions."TRUMP TARGETS OBAMA AND EPSTEINTrump, who is under pressure from his supporters, has been urging to release files on Jeffrey Epstein, who died in 2019 while facing sex trafficking charges. When asked about Epstein, Trump quickly turned to criticise said, "The witch hunt that you should be talking about is they caught President Obama absolutely cold... There should be very severe consequences for that."Trump warned that action might be taken against Obama and his officials, calling the Russia probe a "treasonous act" and accusing Obama of "trying to lead a coup."Obama has often been a target of Trump's attacks. In 2011, Trump claimed Obama was not born in the US, which led Obama to release his birth response to Trump's accusations, a spokesperson from Barack Obama's office said that nothing in the documents released last week changes the key conclusion: Russia attempted to interfere in the 2016 US election but did not succeed in altering any votes. - EndsWith inputs from ReutersTune InMust Watch
