Richard Ashcroft says 'all new fans welcome' after Oasis gig-goer Shazams The Verve's Bitter Sweet Symphony

Perth Now3 days ago
Richard Ashcroft is welcoming "all new fans" after a gig-goer at Oasis' Cardiff gig was caught Shazaming The Verve's iconic hit Bitter Sweet Symphony.
The former frontman of the Britpop group is among the opening acts on the Oasis Live '25 Tour, and he has reacted to the viral moment someone was seen using the Shazam app to identify the 1997 classic in the crowd.
After night two of the Supersonic group's first tour in 16 years at Cardiff's Principality Stadium on July 5, Ashcroft penned on Instagram: "Day 2 thanks to everyone who came down and gave such beautiful support for my set. If you don't know it Shazam it, all new fans welcome! Love to LG for Cast No Shadow, what a tune! We move on Manchester. Are you ready? Music is Power RA."
The 53-year-old musician said when his support slot was confirmed last year: "As a fan from day one I was buzzing for many reasons when the news of Oasis' return was announced.
"I can say with no exaggeration that the songwriting talent of Noel and Liam's pure spirit as a lead singer helped to inspire me to create some of my best work.
"It was the perfection of Live Forever that forced me to try and write my own. They dared to be great, made the dreams we had real and I will always remember those days with joy.
"Now it's time to create more memories and I'm ready to bring it. See you next summer. Music is power."
Meanwhile, Ashcroft is set to release a brand new solo album, Lovin' You, on October 3.
It will be his first LP of all new material since 2018's Natural Rebel.
The Lovin' You album opens with its recently released first single Lover, which interpolates Joan Armatrading's 1976 song Love And Affection.
The single sets the standard for a record that finds Ashcroft at the height of his powers. The album spans the many facets of his sound, from his classic string-soaked acoustic balladry and anthemic indie-rock – through to flashes of Americana, soul and glitch electro beats.
Its themes are intimate and personal, dominated by love, romance and affecting messages of support for those struggling with life's challenges.

Benny Blanco 'can't remember' music he's worked on

Benny Blanco "can't remember" the songs he's worked on. The 37-year-old producer has confessed to using the Shazam app to find out details of some music he hears, only to then discover it was a record he had been a part of creating. Speaking on Therapuss, he said: "The first, like ,big pop thing that I ever worked on was Britney Spears. Sometimes I am in a restaurant and I'm like, 'Oh my god, this song's so good.' And I Shazam it, and then it's my own song. "I'm old and I can't remember anything. And I've done like hundreds of songs that have come out." Benny - who has worked with the likes of Kesha, Katy Perry, Ed Sheeran and Rihanna over the years - noted he had been "making songs for 16 years" and compared the situation to Therapuss host Jake Shane being asked to recall everyone he had ever interviewed on his podcast. Elsewhere during the podcast, Benny admitted he and fiancee Selena Gomez are "excited" about their wedding but have been unable to do any planning because they have been "working on so many things that we hadn't even had time to get into it". He added: "We both need to chill. We've both been working so much. "We got engaged and then we were filming music videos for our album, then it's holidays, then right after the holidays we had to start all the promo for our stuff, do that." Benny also admitted he had never seen Selena's teen comedy series Wizards of Waverly Place - which ran from October 2007 until January 2012 - until long after they started dating. He said: 'I had never seen Selena's show [Wizards of Waverly Place] until we started dating. 'I knew she was a kid star, but I had never seen any of it. She was going to be on the [2024] reboot [Wizards Beyond Waverly Place], and I was like, 'He, can I see your show before we go to the reboot, so, like, I know what it is.? And she was like, 'What?' And she was like, 'I guess.' ' The producer was also clueless about the Jonas Brothers, despite the Only Murders in the Building star having dated Nick Jonas from 2008 to 2010. Benny said: 'I didn't know who the Jonas Brothers were until [2019 hit] Sucker. 'Like, I'd heard the name. I had never heard a Jonas Brothers song until Sucker."

Cast unveil new album Yeah Yeah Yeah featuring P.P Arnold

Cast are set to release the new album Yeah Yeah Yeah in January, featuring a collaboration with P.P. Arnold. The Liverpool legends - who are currently opening for Oasis on their Oasis Live '25 Tour - have announced the follow-up to Love Is The Call, due to drop on January 30, 2026. The record is previewed by the P.P. Arnold-featuring Poison Vine. The soul legend - who wowed at Glastonbury in June - has worked with everyone from the Small Faces to Oasis. Frontman John Power and bandmates Liam 'Skin' Tyson (guitar) and Keith O'Neill (drums), travelled to Spain to record the album at producer Youth's picturesque Space Mountain studio. Power said: 'Yeah Yeah Yeah just arrived out of the blue. There was a window of opportunity, and I thought, let providence prevail. 'None of the songs were really finished, but we both felt we had something special, so we decided to roll with it.' The record, which sees the Liverpool band experiment with gospel and psychedelic funk, has been dubbed "majestic" by Power and Youth. Power said of Arnold's vocal delivery on rock'n'roller Poison Vine: 'When I heard those two vocals kicking in on the chorus, I just knew we had it. That's the real thing.' Yeah Yeah Yeah is available for pre-order now in multiple formats, including vinyl, CD, cassette, and digital. Fans can grab an exclusive, limited-edition 12' vinyl with a mouthwash-effect liquid-filled design—only 100 signed copies of this unique release will be available. Noel Gallagher to donate large sum of Oasis Live '25 Tour earnings to charity

Noel Gallagher is reportedly set to donate a "large" sum of his takings from the Oasis Live '25 Tour to Teenage Cancer Trust. The Wonderwall hitmaker is set to rake in millions from the Britpop legends' first tour in 16 years, but the generous rock 'n' roll star is to set aside a sizeable portion of the proceeds for the charity he has been an ambassador of for many years. A source told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: 'It's no secret that Noel and Liam are both making millions from the reunion tour. "But Noel is actually giving some of his cash away. 'He's made it clear a large donation will be heading to Teenage Cancer Trust from his share of the proceeds.' It's been estimated that the stadium tour - which kicked off on July 4 in Cardiff - will make a whopping £400 million in ticket sales and related revenue. Meanwhile, a new study has claimed Oasis earned a whopping £7 million from Spotify streams of Wonderwall alone. Casino comparison and analysis site La Planque Du Joueur conducted research and found that Wonderwall has earned £7,057,223 in streaming revenue, as of July 8, 2025. They used the average payout of $0.004 per stream to come to this conclusion, and Wonderwall has been streamed 2.3 billion times. Don't Look Back in Anger is the second highest earner with over 1.1 billion streams, generating £3,247,265 in revenue. Champagne Supernova and Stop Crying Your Heart Out are said to have earned them £1,449,431 and £1,378,028, respectively. The Top 10 songs - also including Married With Children, Live Forever, Stand By Me, She's Electric, Supersonic, and Slide Away - gave them a total of £16.8 million. Jean Morlec from La Planque Du Joueur commented: "These figures show that Oasis' music remains incredibly popular on streaming platforms, with Wonderwall standing out as one of the most streamed songs of its era. The band's top songs continue to generate substantial revenue more than 30 years after they were first released." "With the current reunion tour driving renewed interest in their music, we can expect these streaming numbers to climb even higher. Their back catalogue has become a valuable asset that continues to generate millions in revenue year after year."
