Kuantan nurse loses over RM634,000 to investment scam
Pahang police chief Comm Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the 39-year-old woman claimed it all started when she befriended an individual through the WhatsApp application.
The person offered the victim job opportunities abroad before persuading her to invest in a scheme that promised a return of 10% on the total capital invested.
"The victim was then asked to invest via a website provided by the suspect via a link. The woman then transferred money in stages into 10 different bank accounts, involving a total of more than RM634,400 between May 24 and June 29 in savings and bank loans," he said in a statement Friday (July 4).
Comm Yahaya said the victim began to realise she had been duped when she did not receive the returns and could no longer access the investment link that was given to her.
The victim lodged a police report at the Kuantan district police headquarters Thursday (July 3) and the case was being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code. - Bernama

Preacher arrested for sharing intimate videos of wives
KUALA LUMPUR: A preacher has been arrested after his second wife lodged a police report alleging that he distributed intimate videos of her and his other wives. Shah Alam police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said after the woman lodged the report on June 16, police arrested the man and seized two mobile phones and a laptop. Coconut water seller injured after car crashes into roadside stall
IPOH: A coconut water seller was injured when her roadside stall was hit by a car driven by an elderly couple in front of the district police quarters in Kuala Kangsar this morning. Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the 73-year-old driver of the Proton Saga and his 69-year-old wife also sustained injuries in the incident. He said the department received an emergency call at 11.35am and a team from the Kuala Kangsar fire and rescue station was dispatched to the scene. "The vehicle, driven by the elderly man, reportedly collided with a parked Honda City belonging to the 49-year-old coconut water seller before crashing into her stall," he said in a statement. "In the 23-second video, the motorcyclist is believed to be a woman based on the dark clothing worn. "She is seen riding against traffic towards Jitra while holding a mobile phone, ignoring other vehicles coming from the opposite direction," she said in a statement on Saturday (July 5). A police report was made at the Kota Setar police station at 7.34pm on Friday. "Police are currently conducting an initial investigation and seeking cooperation from PLUS to identify the motorcyclist. "Anyone who has information or recognise the individual in the video are urged to contact the Kota Setar Traffic Investigation Officer, Sergeant Mohd Khairulnizam Abdul Aziz, at 011-2835 0767 or the Kota Setar Traffic Police Station at 04-732 1222," she explained. She added that the case is being investigated under Section 79(2) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for not conforming to traffic directions and signs. Those convicted under the section can be fined a minimum of RM300 to a maximum of RM2,000 for those who opt to go to court.
