GWC celebrates Global Recycling Day with the success of a pioneering sustainability project
Qatar-based Gulf Warehousing Company Q.P.S.C (GWC) said its landmark Biobin initiative processed nearly 100 tons of food waste from its sites last year, transforming close to 40 tons into premium, nutrient-rich compost - enough to cover the equivalent of 14 FIFA football pitches.
As part of the initiative, the recycled compost is donated to local agricultural projects including Education City Micro Farm, a community garden run by agriculture company Hadiqa that offers educational workshops for children in Doha, teaching them about gardening to create a more self-sufficient future.
GWC, which offers a diverse service portfolio including contract logistics, freight forwarding, transportation, records management, and supply chain consulting, is at the forefront of innovative waste management and recycling, having recycled over 2,200 tons of waste in 2024 alone.
With a bold target of cutting waste by 20% by 2030, the company is committed to minimizing landfill dependency, promoting sustainable solutions and reinforcing Qatar National Vision 2030 goals.

Following its successful launch last year, GWC is aiming to increase the amount of compost produced by the Biobin initiative in 2025 continuing the pathway to a brighter, greener future.
Vicky Damalou, Co-Founder of Hadiqaa, emphasized the impact of the initiative: 'The high-quality compost provided by this initiative has enriched our soil, leading to healthier crops and a more productive garden. This partnership demonstrates how sustainability and community-driven efforts can come together to create meaningful change, promoting food security and environmental responsibility in Qatar.'
Eugene de Jongh, Managing Partner of fertilizer manufacturer Agricompost, which is a partner in the project, added: "Our collaboration with GWC has made a tangible difference in sustainable farming. The compost we produce is essential for enriching Qatar's soil and growing healthier, locally produced food—strengthening the country's food security and environmental responsibility.'
Beyond food waste recycling, GWC is implementing a range of groundbreaking sustainability initiatives: These include a Sewage Treatment Plant at the Bu Sulba Warehousing Park, which recycles sewage water to irrigate trees, shrubs, and grass within the facility. The company also recycles an average of 50 tons of wooden container pallets per month, The refurbished pallets are collected by contractors, shredded for use in farms and stables, or converted into fire-starting materials.
On Global Recycling Day (18 March), GWC is paving the way toward a greener, more resilient future with a number of major sustainability focused announcements expected in the near future.

Saudi's PetroApp Secures $50M to Support IPO and Expansion
PetroApp, a Saudi Arabia-based independent digital platform for fuel payments, fleet management, and vehicle services, has closed a US$50 million funding round. The investment was led by Jadwa Investment through its GCC Diversified Private Equity Fund, with additional participation from Bunat Ventures. Established in 2018, PetroApp is Saudi Arabia's first standalone provider of cashless fuel payment and fleet management solutions. The platform eliminates the need for cash transactions, reduces fraud risk, and offers real-time cost control for corporate and government fleet operators. Over time, the company has expanded its services to include car washes, oil changes, and tyre and battery replacements, while incorporating artificial intelligence to support operational efficiency and predictive maintenance. PetroApp currently manages more than 500,000 vehicles globally for over 10,000 clients, including corporations and government entities. Its network spans 5,000 fuel stations across Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Thailand, and Nigeria. The company forecasts revenue exceeding SAR 10 billion in 2025. The latest capital injection will be used to support PetroApp's plans for an initial public offering on the Saudi Exchange (Tadawul), expand its international footprint, and introduce new AI-powered vehicle management services. The company also intends to increase its offerings to the retail and government sectors. It has recently been named an approved service provider by the Saudi Authority for Government Procurement and Expenditure Efficiency. ADNOC's Hail and Ghasha offshore gas mega-project achieves ‘sail-out' milestone
3 July 2025 12:22 ABU DHABI (WAM) ADNOC's Hail and Ghasha mega-project has met a key development milestone, having completed the "sail-out" and installation of critical offshore facility structures from the NMDC Energy Yard in Mussafah, Abu structures – called steel 'jackets' – form the foundation of the project's offshore facilities. Delivered on schedule and in line with the highest safety and quality standards, the first 2 jackets were transferred from the fabrication yard to the cargo barge and shipped 160 kilometres offshore for installation by NMDC's Safeen-3000 vessel where they were precisely positioned on the achievement reflects the exceptional coordination and expertise of dedicated project teams and partners, ensuring the structure's secure anchoring and readiness for the next stage of offshore infrastructure Hail and Ghasha Development Project is the world's largest gas development of its kind and an important enabler of gas self-sufficiency and the UAE's growing gas Concession will produce 1.5 billion standard cubic feet of natural gas per day – enough to meet the daily gas demand of Ireland, Greece and Portugal combined. It aims to operate with net-zero emissions, capturing 1.5 million tonnes of CO2 annually, equivalent to removing over 300,000 fossil fuel-powered cars off the Al Kaabi, ADNOC Upstream CEO, said, 'ADNOC's Hail and Ghasha project is an important enabler of UAE gas self-sufficiency, and this sail-out puts us one step closer to delivering on the project.
