Call to identify land for setting up of MSME parks
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Manohar directed officials to immediately identify 50 to 100 acres of land for setting up MSME parks in each constituency in the district.
Industrialists are inclined to establish industries in the district due to the proximity of the state capital Amaravati, the main city Vijayawada and Eluru, and the national highway and transport facilities are good.
He said that the gross domestic product of the district is Rs 72,314 crore, of which 60 per cent comes from agriculture, 35 per cent from aqua and 19 per cent from horticulture. Collector Vetriselvi said that so far, 27 units have been set up in the district towards the target of 100 food processing units and proposals have been sent for setting up a large-scale food processing unit in Nuzvid, and the rest will be set up within the stipulated time. An MSME park has been set up in Chintalapudi constituency, and MSME parks will be set up in the remaining constituencies soon. In the current year, the district is implementing natural cultivation in 40 thousand acres, and oil palm cultivation will be expanded to another 13 thousand hectares. 'We are taking steps to develop tourism in the district, and we are taking steps to develop temple tourism in the Polavaram and Kolleru areas, and proposals have been sent to build five-star hotels in 3 areas of the district. We are giving top priority to basic facilities like roads, housing and drinking water in the district, and we are implementing the free gas scheme 100 per cent. We are taking steps to complete the target in solar power,' she said.
MP Mahesh Kumar said that the Central government is taking steps to develop tourism in 50 areas of the country, and they are trying to get 3 projects sanctioned for the state. He said that there is a proposal to develop the Kolleru area in Eluru district as a major tourist spot. He said that people are facing difficulties due to lack of basic facilities in some villages of the district, and that drinking water, uninterrupted and quality electricity should be provided to those areas. He said that steps should be taken to repair roads and construct new roads in Polavaram, Kaikaluru, Polavaram and Chintalapudi areas.
Zilla Parishad Chairperson Ghanta Padmashri said that steps are being taken for the development of education in the district. In addition to raising the level of education standards in government schools to match corporate schools, additional classrooms are being constructed according to student strength and quality nutritious food is being provided in the mid-day meal scheme.
Eluru MLA Badeti Radhakrishnaiah (Chanti) said that steps should be taken to set up an MSME park in Eluru to provide job and employment opportunities to the youth who have completed their courses.
Denduluru MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar said that although funds have been sanctioned for the development of existing roads in the Kolleru area, the Forest Department is unable to undertake them due to objections.
Chintalapudi MLA Songa Roshan Kumar said that an MSME park has been set up in Chintalapudi constituency and that Andhras are coming forward to set up industries.
He requested that roads, which are basic necessities, be sanctioned in the constituency. Responding to this, Minister Manohar directed the officials to submit a report on the repairs of roads and construction of new roads related to the Panchayat Raj, Roads and Buildings Department in Chintalapudi constituency by Wednesday evening.
Gopalapuram MLA Maddipati Venkataraju demanded the establishment of a food park and the development of temple tourism in the Gopalapuram constituency.
Legislative Council member Jayamangala Venkataramana said that to protect the Kolleru area from flooding, the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme be implemented to remove the slag, mud and hyacinth.
SP Kishore said that entrepreneurs should be encouraged to set up industries under the Ease of Doing Business policy.
He said that Eluru district is an area without any law and order problems and in such an environment, entrepreneurs will come forward to set up industries.

Srinagar: The Sawalkot hydropower project lay buried in bureaucratic delays and geopolitical tensions for decades. Now, for the first time in 40 years, India has moved to bring the stalled dream back to life. Days after suspending the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack, New Delhi has given the green signal to resume work on the long-pending project along the Chenab river. The decision marks a strategic shift. The National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) floated international tenders on Wednesday for design and engineering work on the project. Located near the village of Sidhra in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district, Sawalkot is designed to generate 1,856 megawatts of power. It could eventually become one of the biggest infrastructure projects in the region. The deadline for tender submission is set for September 10. Old Blueprint, New Push The Sawalkot project was conceptualised in the 1980s but never got off the ground. It ran into hurdles almost immediately. Pakistan raised repeated objections under the Indus Waters Treaty, arguing that such projects on western rivers violated the spirit of the agreement. While maintaining it was within its rights, India paused the process several times. There were domestic challenges too such as compensation for families in 13 affected villages, shifting a transit camp of the Army and getting forest clearance under environmental rules. All of this stalled any real progress. Now, many of those hurdles appear to have been cleared. Earlier this month, the Forest Advisory Committee gave in-principle approval to divert around 847 hectares of forest land for the project. The government has also waived the water usage fee for the NHPC, offering it a financial cushion. More Than a Dam The Centre sees Sawalkot as a national-level infrastructure need that is important not only for Jammu & Kashmir, but also for the wider push towards energy independence. It is a run-of-the-river project, meaning it will not require large reservoirs but will harness the natural flow of the Chenab to generate electricity. The estimated cost of the project is over Rs 22,700 crore, and it will be developed in two phases. A Treaty Under Stress When the Indus Waters Treaty was signed in 1960, India got control over three eastern rivers, Beas, Ravi and Sutlej. Pakistan received rights over the western rivers – Indus, Jhelum and Chenab. The treaty allowed India limited use of water from the western rivers for non-consumptive purposes, including hydropower. For years, India respected those limits. But with Pakistan using the treaty to repeatedly block projects, New Delhi's patience has thinned. By moving forward with Sawalkot now, India appears to be asserting its rights more strongly. A Political Legacy Revisited J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also holds the power portfolio in the current administration, said the revival of Sawalkot was overdue. 'This project is very important. I had tried to restart it during my last tenure, but many roadblocks came in the way,' he said. He highlighted that the original work was stopped in 1996. His father and former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah, had tried to restart it with the help of a Norwegian consortium, but even that attempt failed. Later, under Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's leadership, the project was shelved entirely. Now, nearly three decades later, the wheels are turning again. The Sawalkot dam might not just light up homes. It might light up a whole new phase in India's water diplomacy.

Nadda sought to remind the opposition that the Chair had made it clear during a BAC meeting and in RS that it's the govt's prerogative to decide which minister should speak and reply.

The party also took a swipe at Rahul, citing his affidavit from the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as per which he invested Rs 8 crore in the same "dead economy". "The latest tirade by Rahul Gandhi on the Indian economy has proved once again that not only he is delusional and ignorant of facts but also deeply frustrated. Parroting imported narratives to show India in bad light and posing like an expert may serve his politics but will do little to establish him as a sensible politician," Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan said on X. He said Rahul should come out of his fantasy world, else, the only thing that will be dead and destroyed is the little ground that Congress is holding. The party also questioned that if " demonetisation and a flawed GST" killed the economy, then how come India became the world's fastest-growing major economy, with nominal GDP tripling from 2014-15 to 2024-25. BJP's IT department head Amit Malviya on X said that Rahul has "hit a new low by echoing the 'dead economy' jibe - a shameful insult to the aspirations, achievements, and well-being of the Indian people." "But let's be honest -- the only thing truly 'dead' here is Rahul Gandhi's own political credibility and legacy," he added. The BJP leaders reacted after the leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi said that everyone except Prime Minister Narendra Modi and finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman knows that the Indian economy is "dead". BJP MP Anurag Thakur said making anti-India statements has become Rahul's "mentality". "Whenever anyone makes an anti-India statement in the world, he grabs it," he said.
