Power Ministry unveils task force to conceive India Energy Stack
New Delhi: The Ministry of Power on Saturday announced the launch of a task force to conceive the
India Energy Stack
(IES), an initiative aimed at creating a unified, secure, and interoperable
digital public infrastructure
(DPI) for the energy sector.
The IES will play a vital role in integrating renewable energy, enhancing
DISCOM efficiency
, and delivering transparent, reliable, and future-ready power services, an official statement quoted Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar as saying.
"There is an urgent need for developing robust DPI in the power sector to manage the country's rising demand, ensure grid stability, and empower consumers. What Aadhaar did for identity and UPI achieved for digital payments, the India Energy Stack will accomplish for the power sector - unlocking seamless, secure, and consumer-centric energy services for every citizen," he added.
As India charts its path to becoming a USD 5 trillion economy and advances towards its net-zero commitments, the power sector faces both unprecedented opportunities and complex challenges, the statement said.
Rapid growth in renewable energy, electric vehicles, and consumer participation in energy markets is transforming the sector, but fragmented systems and a lack of seamless digital integration remain key barriers, it pointed out.
To address these issues, the ministry is reimagining the sector's digital foundation through the IES - a DPI that will provide a standardised, secure, and open platform to manage, monitor, and innovate across the electricity value chain.
The IES will offer unique IDs for consumers, assets, and transactions; real-time, consent-based data sharing; open APIs(Application Programming Interface) for seamless system integration; and tools for consumer empowerment, market access, and innovation.
Apart from conceiving the IES, the ministry will undertake a 12-month
Proof of Concept
(PoC) to demonstrate IES through real-world use cases in partnership with selected utilities.
This includes piloting the
Utility Intelligence Platform
(UIP), a modular, analytics-driven application built on IES to support utilities, policymakers, and consumers with real-time insights and smarter energy management.
To guide these initiatives, the ministry has constituted a dedicated task force comprising experts from the technology, power sector, and regulatory domains, which will steer the development, pilot implementation, and nationwide scale-up of the IES.

Crooks impersonating Mumbai cops & ED officials force 75-yr-old in Kolhapur to transfer Rs7.9 crore
Kolhapur: Cybercriminals posing as Mumbai police and Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials forced a 75-year-old Kolhapur resident to transfer Rs7.86 crore in phases, between May 26 and June 23, on the pretext of an "inquiry into a case of funding a banned terror outfit and money laundering". This was one of the biggest cyber frauds to have been reported from western Maharashtra. The victim, who had settled in Kolhapur after retiring in 2012 as an assistant vice-president from a refinery in Jamnagar, exhausted all his earnings from investment in shares and fixed deposit (FD) held jointly with his wife to make 14 money transfers to accounts with banks in Mumbai, Nashik, Akola, Chandigarh, Prayagraj, Manoharpur and in Andhra Pradesh and Bihar. The man's three sons are settled in the US. He had rejoined the refinery in 2017 for two years before finally starting a retired life, police said. According to the FIR, at one point, the victim even told one of the crooks, who identified himself as an ED official, that he had no connection whatsoever with the money laundering and that the call appeared to him as a cyber fraud. The caller then disconnected the call. Later, the victim received another call from a man, who identified himself as a serving senior officer from Mumbai police and asked him to cooperate with the ED official. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Вот что поза во сне говорит о вашем характере! Удивительные Новости Undo After securing all his investment and bank balance details in the name of inquiry and verification, the crooks even used bogus "Supreme Court order, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI)" letters to convince the victim to sell off his shares and deposit the generated money and his joint FD money to the accounts shared by them. They promised the victim that the money would be returned to him, post-verification. The Juna Rajwada police in Kolhapur registered a case in this connection following a preliminary verification of the victim's complaint application. "We have deployed teams to four places across the country to collect information as part of our ongoing investigation and to verify the accounts where money was transferred. The victim had just Rs1.5 lakh in his bank accounts, and the rest in shares," inspector Sanjivkumar Zade of the Juna Rajwada police told TOI. According to the FIR, it all started around 10.30am on May 24 when the victim got a call on his cellphone while he was at his home in Kolhapur. The caller identified himself as a representative of "Data Protection Board of India" and told the victim that he was looking into a data leak case. The caller asked the victim to confirm the last four digits of his Aadhaar card number. Later, he told the victim that his Aadhaar credentials were misused to purchase a cellphone and cheat some 20 people in Mumbai with unauthorised advertisements and other purposes. The caller claimed that a criminal case was registered against the victim at the Colaba police station in Mumbai. The caller then sent a photo of an "information report" about the cheating case on the WhatsApp number of his wife as the victim's WhatsApp number was not operating. Along with this report, the caller sent another photo of a group of people purportedly belonging to a banned terror outfit and asked the victim if he knew any of them. The caller went on to tell the victim that the police had spotted a money transfer from his account to the terror outfit. When the victim said he had no connection whatsoever with this matter, the caller connected him to another man who claimed to be a senior inspector with the Colaba police. The victim stated in his complaint that the Colaba officer asked him to visit the police station to record his statement but when he replied that he is a senior citizen and was not in a position to travel to Colaba, the "officer" said he can video record his statement before an ED officer. The "officer" then connected the victim to the "ED officer" on video call. The latter then got the victim to make the money transfers in phases till the latter realised the con, the police said.

Railways To Offer 5X Booking, 10X Enquiries Via Upgraded Reservation System By December
Last Updated: The railway ministry said the new passenger reservation system will facilitate over 1.5 lakh ticket bookings per minute, compared to the 32,000 tickets per minute at present Train users who often struggle to book tickets may soon find relief as the Indian Railways is planning to modernise its reservation system by December, increasing the booking capacity by five times. The railway ministry announced on Sunday that the new passenger reservation system (PRS) will facilitate over 1.5 lakh ticket bookings per minute, compared to the 32,000 tickets per minute at present. Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) has been developing the project for the past few months. According to the ministry, the upgraded PRS design is agile, flexible, and scalable, capable of handling 10 times the current load. 'It will significantly enhance the ticket booking capacity. The new PRS will allow over 1.5 lakh ticket bookings per minute. This will be an increase of roughly five times from 32,000 tickets per minute in the current PRS," the ministry said. The new PRS will significantly enhance ticket booking capacity, enabling over 1.5 lakh ticket bookings per minute, which is roughly five times the current capacity of 32,000 tickets per minute. In addition, the ticket enquiry capacity will be enhanced tenfold, from four lakh to more than 40 lakh enquiries per minute. 'The new PRS also has a multilingual and user-friendly booking and enquiry interface," the ministry said. Under the new system, users will be able to select their preferred seat and view the fare calendar. The system will include integrated facilities for Divyangjan (differently abled), students, and patients. Starting July 1, however, Indian Railways will allow only authenticated users to book Tatkal tickets on the IRCTC website and mobile app. 'OTP-based authentication will be done for Tatkal bookings from the end of July. The railway minister instructed officials to broadbase the authentication mechanism for Tatkal bookings," the ministry said. The ministry further said the authentication should be done using Aadhaar or any other verifiable government ID available in the user's DigiLocker account. In June, News18 reported that Indian Railways had introduced several changes to improve the Tatkal booking experience for the general public, effective July 1, including mandatory Aadhaar for booking Tatkal tickets through IRCTC's official website and mobile app. 'These measures reflect the continuous efforts of Indian Railways to modernise its systems and make them more citizen friendly," the statement added.
