Techie Commits Rs 1 Crore To Fix Bengaluru's Traffic: "I Am Willing To..."

As Bengaluru grapples with chronic traffic congestion, driven by rapid urbanisation and a booming IT industry, Prashant Pitti, co-founder of EaseMyTrip, has come up with an initiative to solve the crisis. Mr Pitti has pledged Rs 1 crore to identify and fix the Garden City's choke points using artificial intelligence (AI) and Google Maps data. Mr Pitti took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his idea, having grown frustrated after spending over two hours covering just 11 kilometres on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) over the weekend. "I was stuck at one choke-point at ORR, where I spent 100 mins struggling to understand why there is no traffic-light or cop here! But I don't want one more 'Bengaluru Traffic Memes or Rant'. I WANT TO FIX IT," wrote Mr Pitti. "I am willing to spend INR 1 Crore on this project by funding: 1-2 senior ML/AI engineers. And providing budget for using Google Maps API calls, Satellite Imagery & GPUs." After receiving significant interest from users, Mr Pitti shared a Google form for individuals to contact him and share the expertise they can bring to the table. See the post here: I am committing INR 1 Cr to find Bangalore Choke-Points via Google Maps & AL. 11 km → 2.15 hours in Bangalore Traffic on Saturday late night! But… — Prashant Pitti (@ppitti) July 14, 2025 Also Read | "Time To Leave": Frustrated By Bengaluru's Traffic, Man Decides To Move To... As of the last update, the post had received over 4,000 likes and hundreds of comments, with the majority lauding the move whilst others exploring ways how the initiative could be implemented on the ground. "Good initiative! Honestly, Bengaluru needs good roads, free from congestion," said one user while another added: "Fantastic commitment and it will be truly a replicable civic achievement in the making, when (and not IF) you succeed." A third commented: "Better you contact MPs like @Tejasvi_Surya and @PCMohanMP atleast they may listen to you. Talking to the traffic police will give you no results." A fourth said: "We need more citizens to be part of Namma Bengaluru Improvements. Thank you Prashant." Being the tech capital of the country, Bengaluru's population has surged rapidly, with over 13 million residents and millions of vehicles clogging its roads. Narrow streets, inadequate public transport, and ongoing infrastructure projects exacerbate the issue. Peak-hour commutes can stretch hours, impacting productivity and quality of life. Despite initiatives like metro expansions and traffic management apps, challenges persist due to poor urban planning and high vehicle density.

WPI inflation enters negative zone after 19 months, dips 0.13 pc in June

'Negative rate of inflation in June, 2025 is primarily due to decrease in prices of food articles, mineral oils, manufacture of basic metals, crude petroleum & natural gas etc,' the industry ministry said in a statement. WPI-based inflation was 0.39 per cent in May. It was 3.43 per cent in June last year. New Delhi, Jul 14 (PTI) Wholesale price inflation (WPI) turned negative after a gap of 19 months, declining 0.13 per cent in June as deflation widened in food articles and fuel, along with softening in manufactured product costs, government data showed on Monday. As per WPI data, food articles saw a deflation of 3.75 per cent in June, as against a deflation of 1.56 per cent in May, with vegetables seeing a sharp drop. Deflation in vegetables was 22.65 per cent in June, compared to 21.62 per cent in May. In the case of manufactured products, inflation was at 1.97 per cent, compared to 2.04 per cent in May. Fuel and power saw a negative inflation or deflation of 2.65 pc in June, compared to a deflation of 2.27 pc in May. PHDCCI President Hemant Jain said the continuous softening of WPI inflation for seven months in a row is a positive sign for higher economic growth in India. 'Looking ahead, considering the rise in domestic demand, expectations of a normal monsoon, and strong overall economic activity in the country, we anticipate WPI inflation to remain moderate in the coming months despite ongoing geopolitical uncertainties,' Jain added. ICRA senior Economist Rahul Agrawal said the seasonal sequential uptick in food prices has been relatively modest in July 2025 so far, which is expected to keep food print in the deflationary zone, unless there is an unusual surge in such prices in the remaining part of the month, especially for vegetables. Besides, international crude oil prices have also eased somewhat in the ongoing month from the peak seen in June 2025, amid cooling tensions in West Asia, while remaining in deflationary territory on a year-on-year basis. Further, the USD/INR pair has also remained range-bound so far. 'Overall, ICRA expects the headline WPI to remain in the deflationary territory in July 2025 despite an unfavourable base, amid the sustained YoY deflation in food and crude oil prices,' Agrawal said. India Ratings and Research Paras Jasrai said the wholesale inflation in the first quarter of this fiscal stood at a five-quarter low of 0.4 per cent. 'The muted input price growth in the economy would provide support to the corporates in maintaining their margins at a time when industrial output growth has faced deceleration on account of weather vagaries,' according to Ind-Ra. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) mainly takes into account retail inflation while formulating the monetary policy. Retail inflation data for June is scheduled to be released later in the day. The RBI last month cut benchmark policy interest rates by a sharp 0.50 per cent to 5.50 per cent amid easing inflation. PTI JD CS DRR This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. Australia to Germany, UK to US: How much student visas cost in 2025 and what's getting pricier?

Student visa costs across popular destinations have been under intense scrutiny lately, and for good reason. Many aspirants planning to study abroad start budgeting years in advance, but recent surges in visa fees have added a whole new challenge, especially for Indian students. Australia, for instance, now charges a steep student visa application cost of AUD 2,000. This jump is just one part of a broader global trend, with fees rising across the board for international students. What once seemed like a minor cost is now a major consideration, right up there with tuition and living expenses. Whether it's Germany's €12,000 blocked account or the UK's £524 fee, visa costs are varying widely, forcing students to reconsider how much they're willing to invest in their academic journey abroad. Here is a look at what it will cost students to apply for a visa to popular study abroad destinations. Australia - Approx. 1,12,862 INR Australia's new student visa fee structure has set tongues wagging with its AUD 2,000 baseline cost. The increase affects most applicants, though students from Pacific Island nations and Timor-Leste enjoy reduced rates. The government's Visa Pricing Estimator helps calculate exact costs, but students should brace themselves for additional expenses. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why Seniors Are Getting 87¢ Generic Viagra This Month Health Alliance by Friday Plans Learn More Undo The mandatory Overseas Student Health Cover sits on top of the base fee, pushing total costs even higher. UK (United Kingdom) - Approx. 60,733 INR British universities continue to attract Indian students despite the £524 visa fee that applies universally – whether you're applying from Mumbai or Manchester. This flat rate covers the primary applicant, with dependents facing the same charge. The healthcare surcharge adds another layer of expense, calculated based on course duration during the application process. Students can expect to wait between three and eight weeks for processing, depending on their location. Canada - Approx. 48,884 INR Canadian study permits represent excellent value at CAD 150 for new applications or extensions. Students requiring status restoration face a combined CAD 389.75 bill – CAD 239.75 for restoration plus the standard CAD 150 permit fee. This pricing structure keeps Canada competitive in the international education market, particularly when compared to its higher-priced neighbours. New Zealand - Approx. 43,742 INR New Zealand's Fee Paying Student Visa costs NZD 850 but covers study periods up to four years. The visa permits full-time study and part-time work (maximum 20 hours weekly), with full-time work rights during holidays subject to conditions. From 18th August 2025, applications shift to New Zealand's enhanced Immigration Online system. Ireland - Approx. 16,084 INR Ireland's visa fees remain unchanged with €60 for single-entry applications and €100 for multiple-entry permissions. Certain applicants – including family members of Irish citizens and specific nationalities – escape fees altogether. Local embassy and visa centre procedures may introduce additional administrative charges, varying by location. US (United States) - Approx. 15,914 INR America's F and M visa categories maintain their $185 processing fee, making the US one of the more affordable options for Indian students. Academic (F) and vocational (M) programmes fall under this non-petition-based category, with no additional mandatory surcharges. Exchange programme participants under J visas may dodge fees entirely if their programme enjoys official US government sponsorship. However, all fees remain non-refundable regardless of application outcome. Sweden - Approx. 13,432 INR Swedish residence permits for students cost SEK 1,500 for adults, with under-18s paying half at SEK 750. The non-refundable fee has exemptions for scholarship holders from the Swedish Institute, Sida, EU, or Uppsala University's ISP programme. Students must prove full-time admission and arrange health insurance for stays under one year. Germany - Approx. 7,540 INR Germany's modest €75 visa fee might seem attractive, but the devil lurks in the details. Students must demonstrate financial capacity through a blocked account containing €11,904 – enough to cover an entire year's expenses. New rules from September 2024 restrict monthly withdrawals to €992, adding another layer of complexity. Factor in APS certification, extensive documentation, and German-standard health insurance, and costs escalate quickly. France - Approx. 5,026 INR Indian students applying through France's Études en France system benefit from a €50 visa fee – half the €99 charged to non-EEF applicants. The long-stay student visa doubles as a residence permit for courses exceeding six months. French authorities encourage digital document submission to expedite processing at external service centres. Singapore - Approx. 4,027 INR Singapore's Student's Pass carries a S$60 issuance fee, with an optional S$30 Multiple Journey Visa if required. The entirely digital pass system grants access through Singpass or FileSG following biometric enrolment. Students receive an In-Principle Approval letter that serves as their entry visa when needed.
