'Elon Musk should stay out of politics...': US Treasury chief warns after 'America Party' announcement
In a dramatic escalation of tensions between two of the most prominent figures in American business and politics,
Elon Musk
has officially announced the formation of a new political organisation called the 'America Party.' The announcement came on Saturday, July 5, 2025, following weeks of growing disagreement between President
Donald Trump
and the administration over the recently passed tax-and-spending bill.
The new legislation, which includes sweeping tax cuts and expanded defence spending, has drawn criticism from Musk and others who warn that it could significantly inflate the US budget deficit. Musk, once a vocal supporter of Trump and a key player in federal advisory roles, now appears poised to take on members of the Republican establishment during the upcoming midterm elections.
According to a report by Reuters, Musk shared the news of the party's formation through his social media platform X, citing the results of a public poll showing strong support for an alternative to the traditional two-party system. The implications of Musk's political move are already reverberating across Wall Street, Washington, and Silicon Valley.

Elon Musk's political shift marks a stark change from his earlier alignment with President Trump. During Trump's previous term, Musk served in a high-profile advisory position as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). He also provided financial support to Trump's 2024 re-election campaign.
However, their relationship began to unravel over the content of Trump's latest tax bill. According to The Daily Beast, Musk strongly opposed the bill's elimination of green energy credits that had benefited Tesla's electric vehicle business. Trump, in turn, has accused Musk of acting out of self-interest and has threatened to revoke billions in federal contracts from both
Tesla
and SpaceX.
Trump's reaction and the White House response
President Trump responded publicly to Musk's announcement during a press interaction on July 6. Calling the move 'ridiculous,' Trump dismissed the formation of a third party as a distraction and warned that it could disrupt the nation's political balance.
The White House has not issued an official statement, but Trump's Council of Economic Advisers Chair Stephen Miran defended the administration's policy on ABC's 'This Week,' claiming that the tax bill would 'turbocharge' economic growth. Miran also downplayed Musk's political influence, saying, 'The principles of DOGE were very popular, but if you looked at the polling, Elon was not.'
Meanwhile,
US Treasury Secretary
Scott Bessent publicly urged Musk to prioritise his responsibilities as CEO of Tesla and SpaceX. In a CNN interview, Bessent remarked, 'I imagine that those boards of directors did not like this announcement yesterday and will be encouraging him to focus on his business activities, not his political activities.'
Impact on business and financial markets
The fallout from Musk's announcement was immediate. According to a Reuters report published on July 6, investment firm Azoria Partners delayed the launch of its Tesla-linked Convexity ETF due to uncertainties over Musk's political ambitions. Azoria CEO James Fishback publicly urged Tesla's board to review whether Musk's political commitments were compatible with his corporate duties.
Tesla's stock price dropped nearly 7% following the news, extending a broader decline of about 35% since late 2024. Analysts cited rising political risk and leadership distraction as key concerns for investors.
Fishback, writing on X, stated: 'I encourage the Board to meet immediately and ask Elon to clarify his political ambitions and evaluate whether they are compatible with his full-time obligations to Tesla as CEO.' He later added, 'Elon left us with no other choice.'
Structure and goals of Elon Musk's 'America Party'
Musk's newly formed America Party is designed to operate outside of traditional Republican and Democratic platforms. According to an overview shared on Musk's X profile and summarized in The New York Post, the party will focus on several core issues:
Reducing the federal deficit
Expanding AI-enabled national defence systems
Promoting deregulation in the science and technology sectors
Offering tax incentives for families and manufacturing
Funding primary challengers to Republican incumbents who voted for the tax bill
Rather than fielding a presidential candidate, Musk stated that the party's immediate focus is to win 'a couple of key congressional seats' in the 2026 midterms and reshape the legislative priorities of the Republican majority.
Elon Musk's justification for the break
Musk has framed his departure from the GOP as a necessary response to what he views as irresponsible fiscal policy. In a series of posts on X, he described Trump's bill as 'insanely expensive' and claimed that it would 'destroy the American balance sheet.'
He emphasised that the America Party is intended to restore what he calls 'pragmatic conservatism,' centred on technological advancement and fiscal restraint. According to Reuters, Musk is also considering launching PACs to support like-minded candidates, although no official filings have been made yet with the Federal Election Commission.

Rising atrocities against tribals & Dalits in Bihar a grave concern: CM

1 2 Ranchi: A day after five members of a family were burnt alive in election-bound Bihar, Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren, who is looking after his ailing father Shibu Soren at a Delhi hospital, said he cannot keep quiet when Dalits and poor people are tortured. In the Bihar incident, a mob lynched five members of a tribal family and later burnt them alive in Purnia late on Sunday night charging them with witchcraft. Taking to X, Hemant appealed to his Bihar counterpart, Nitish Kumar, to stake strict action against the perpetrators. "I urge the Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri @NitishKumar ji, to issue directives to take appropriate steps to swiftly apprehend the culprits and ensure they receive the most stringent punishment. The continuously increasing atrocities on tribals/Dalits in Bihar are a matter of grave concern." In Ranchi, Hemant's party JMM, too, expressed shock and grave concern over the situation. Mounting pressure on BJP, which is part of alliance govt led by Nitish Kumar (JDU) in Bihar, JMM's general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharjee said, "Whatever happened in Purnia is part of the spree of attacks on the poor, tribals, marginalised and minorities in places wherever BJP is directly or partly in power. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 20 Pieces of Clothing you should Ditch over 40 Learn More Undo Bihar is the latest example. " He added that BJP, which is trying to allegedly throw many out of Bihar's voters' list through the ECI's special amendment drive ahead of the election in the neighbouring state, is also using such violent tactics to silence voters, who are against the saffron party. The JMMM leader also questioned the role of the police in the entire episode. "The harrowing incident that happened with the family lasted for several hours — from beating them at one place to burning the five at different place and dumping bodies at another location. What was Bihar police doing all these while?" he said.

H1 car sales see 12% dip; festive rebound expected

1 2 A hmedabad: Car sales in Gujarat continued to face headwinds in the first half of 2025, with registrations dropping 12.2% year-on-year, report Niyati Parikh & Himanshu Kaushik. Between Jan and June, total registrations fell to 161,363 units from 183,866 in H1 2024, reflecting a challenging market for the automobile industry. Dealers attribute the decline to poor consumer sentiment due to the stock market crash in the initial part of the year, followed by the Indo-Pak border tensions and even the geopolitical conflicts. Even as the Rath Yatra muhurat revved up two-wheeler sales, it failed to add momentum to passenger car sales, which remained lukewarm. According to MoRTH data, car sales rose by a modest 8.2% during the month, totalling 23,744 units as against 21,946 units sold in June last year. While the uptick broke the trend of subdued numbers over the past five months, bringing in some momentum, dealers believe that overall sentiment in the car market is down. "Rath Yatra is considered very auspicious for the purchase of vehicles, including two- and four-wheelers. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Jena: Nur 700 Plätze. Gutes Hören Undo While sales did increase marginally, the numbers do not reflect the kind of festive optimism that is typically seen during this time of the year. Even on the muhurat day, sales remained flat. This is mainly due to the poor sentiment among consumers and lack of confidence in spending," said Pranav Shah, Chairman of the Federation of Automobile Dealers' Association, Gujarat. "Car sales have been muted as there is a slowdown in the market. Entry-level cars have seen the most impact, as younger buyers are increasingly shifting towards SUVs and mid-segment cars. With economic uncertainty and price sensitivity still high, many buyers are waiting for a clearer picture before making purchase decisions," the officer said. "In rural Gujarat, the agricultural economy was not performing as expected due to underwhelming summer and winter crop yields, which also affected demand for four-wheelers, especially in smaller towns and talukas," he further added. Two-wheeler registrations jumped 18.6% year-on-year to 100,615 units, up from 84,803 in June 2024, according to data from the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). Still, the June boost lifted dealer sentiment, especially after a sluggish start to the year. However, the overall figures for the first half of 2025 continue to reflect a challenging market. Between January and June, car registrations in Gujarat dropped 12.2%, falling to 161,363 units from 183,866 in H1 2024. Two-wheelers, on the other hand, continued to maintain momentum. Registrations rose 3.4% to 568,421 units in H1 2025, compared to 549,805 in the same period last year. "Retail sentiment is gradually improving. With a good monsoon, stable fuel prices, and positive signals from the broader economy, we expect traction to pick up during Navratri and Diwali," Shah added. Tractor sales remained muted, but most other segments are showing early signs of revival. Dealers across Gujarat are now gearing up for the festive stretch, hoping it brings the auto market firmly back into gear.

Koppal ganja case shifted to Gangavathi, claims Reddy

Gangavathi (Koppal): MLA Gali Janardhana Reddy expressed dissatisfaction regarding the actions of certain politicians, police, and excise officials from Koppal who were trying to undermine the reputation of the Gangavathi constituency. S peaking at a quarterly KDP meeting on Monday, he had spoken about it, which persisted into Tuesday. Reddy was outraged as he claimed those in authority in Koppal were attempting to damage the image of his constituency, which is historically and mythologically significant, with mentions in the Ramayana and the Vijayanagara empire. Reddy indirectly conveyed his anger towards Koppal MP K Rajashekar Hitnal. He also showed his displeasure towards Koppal SP Ram L Arakeri, who he accused of depicting the hydro ganja discovered in Basapur of Koppal taluk as having been confiscated in Gangavathi due to the MP Hitnal's influence. According to Reddy, the Gangavathi police officers, who were not happy regarding the case being transferred to their jurisdiction, did so under the pressure exerted by the MP and SP. "Transferring the ganja case from a neighbouring constituency to Gangavathi is unlawful. I will invite not just local but also national media to expose your motives. While I am diligently working for the development of the historically and mythologically significant Anjanadri and Anegondi areas, you are succumbing to political pressure and damaging the reputation of my constituency," he said, expressing his frustration towards Gangavathi police. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like One of the Most Successful Investors of All Time, Warren Buffett, Recommends: 5 Books for Turning... Whenever discussions arise regarding illegal activities, ganja, and drug sales in the state, a perception has been fostered that Gangavathi is the centre of these illegal operations. You are directly accountable for this tarnishing," warned Janardhana Reddy. "Residents from seven or eight villages in my constituency have reported to me that illegal card gambling is going on in their areas. They have informed me that a new gambling method has emerged, where gamblers are placed inside goods carrier vehicles and play while on the move. None of this can occur without police collaboration," Reddy said, articulating his discontent.
