Now MTech in cyber-physical systems at MNNIT
To align with the evolving demands of Industry 4.0, Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT)-Allahabad—the state's only NIT—is set to make a major advancement in technical education. Beginning with the 2025–26 academic session, the institute's electrical engineering department will introduce a specialised MTech programme in cyber-physical systems, according to officials. This new programme is designed to equip the next generation of technocrats with the skills required for smart factories, advanced automation systems, and machine-to-machine communication. (FOR REPRESENTATION) This new course has been designed by a team under supervision of the institute director Prof RS Verma and Dean (Academics) Prof LK Mishra and comprising head of department prof Richa Negi along with faculty members Dipayan Guha, Saumendra Sarangi, Vishal Kumar Gaur, and Satnesh Singh. This new programme is designed to equip the next generation of technocrats with the skills required for smart factories, advanced automation systems, and machine-to-machine communication. A total of 15 seats will be available in this 80-credit programme being started under the new national education policy (NEP)-2020 framework, officials added. Students will be required to complete 20 credits each semester. Admission to the programme will be granted based on GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) scores. Eligible candidates from disciplines such as electrical, electronics and communication, instrumentation, aerospace engineering, computer science, engineering science, data science, and artificial intelligence can apply, informed head of electrical engineering department Prof Richa Negi. She said that the curriculum has been specifically designed with the applications of Industry 4.0 in mind. It incorporates cutting-edge technologies such as control systems, computing, machine learning, and the Internet of Things (IoT). The programme aims to enhance technical expertise in key sectors including manufacturing, healthcare, energy, and automotive industries. Prof Negi emphasised that the new course will equip students with the technical knowledge required to play a vital role in the establishment and operation of smart factories. It is expected to significantly contribute to advancements in machine-to-machine communication and improvements in production quality. According to the institute administration, the programme is designed not only to improve employability but also to inspire innovation and entrepreneurship among students, she added. She highlighted that the programme has been developed in consultation with industry experts to ensure students gain practical insights into professional work environments during their training. With a growing demand for specialists in this domain expected in the coming years, this course is poised to be a milestone in preparing students to meet future industry needs, she maintained.

Hindustan Zinc launches inclusive language guide to promote workplace equity
Hindustan Zinc has introduced a Guidebook to inclusive language aimed at promoting equity and inclusivity within the workplace. The guide, launched under the company's Zinclusion platform, serves as a framework to encourage respectful communication and greater awareness across all levels of the organisation. The launch featured a panel discussion on the theme of 'Allyship', led by the company's CEO Arun Misra and Dr. Sanjay Sharma, Retired Air Commodore and advocate for transgender healthcare and inclusion. The guidebook is part of the company's broader diversity and inclusion efforts, which have included policies such as financial assistance of up to ₹1 lakh for employees from the LGBTQIA+ community , and ₹2 lakhs with leave provisions for transgender employees undergoing gender reaffirmation procedures. Additional policies cover parenthood and housing support. Recruitment and representation in mainstream roles Since 2022, Hindustan Zinc has expanded its hiring efforts to include members of the transgender community. As of now, twenty-three LGBTQIA+ employees are working across functions such as finance, supply chain, marketing, quality, and medical services. The company has recorded a 44 per cent year-on-year increase in hiring from the LGBTQ community. The company states that this has been facilitated by its tech-focused operations using Industry 4.0 technologies, robotics, and automation, which have streamlined processes and reduced manual intervention. Seminar held in national capital focusing prospects of Artificial Intelligence in Northeast region
New Delhi [India], July 2 (ANI): A seminar on the prospects and possibilities of artificial intelligence in Northeast India was organised by Society for Harmonising Aspirations for Responsible Engagement (SHARE) here in the national capital's India International Centre on Wednesday. The seminar highlighted the region's pivotal role as a strategic hub for India's future technological advancements and connectivity with Southeast Asia. Eminent government officials and technology industry leaders shared their insights on how AI will reshape governance, economy, culture, and development in the region. Harsh Vardhan Shringla, former Foreign Secretary of India and Head of Global affairs SHARE chaired the session and stressed on the geo-strategic importance of the region: 'North-East India is the gateway to South-East Asia and ASEAN nations. Technological advancement and AI's integration in governance will change the course of administration in the region.' Angshuman Day, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) and currently the Chair of the Steering Committee for AI in North east, highlighted the ongoing Fourth Industrial Revolution. 'Industry 4.0 is transforming rapidly, and it will redefine the economic and technological landscape of the North-East,' he remarked. He suggested a roadmap for AI integration in the states across sectors that DoNER was working on. Vishal Dhupar, Managing Director Asia South, NVIDIA India, mentioned about the possibilities of the north east region mapping its strength and using AI technologies. He also expressed his support for setting up of any AI Factory in Northeast India that will focus on the creation of AI tokens and support indigenous innovation. Arvind Bajaj, CEO Evidien India addressed how AI can help tackle regional challenges. 'The North-East's persistent issues related to water and food scarcity can be resolved with the strategic deployment of AI-based solutions,' Bajaj said.
