Former Bruins captain Brad Marchand wins Stanley Cup with Florida Panthers

Brad Marchand is a Stanley Cup champion once again.
The former Bruins captain won his second Cup on Tuesday night, as his Florida Panthers defeated the Edmonton Oilers, 5-1, in Game 6. It'd been 14 years since Marchand won his first with Boston in 2011.

Marchand was outstanding in Florida's playoff run, scoring 10 goals and adding 10 assists in 23 postseason games. Six of those goals came in the Stanley Cup Final against Edmonton, including a double overtime winner in Game 2.
Not seeing eye-to-eye with the 37-year-old on a contract beyond this season, Boston traded Marchand at the deadline for a first-round pick. That selection will either be in 2027 or 2028, depending on whether Florida makes a move with their 2026 first-rounder ahead of next week's NHL Draft.
So what's next for Marchand?
A free agent on July 1, he told SportsNet's Elliotte Friedman that 'anything's on the table' for next season in an interview earlier this month.

'I've thought about potential situations. But until you know what options are (out there) — it's all theoretical," Marchand said. 'So, I kind of parked all that. And I'm just — especially right now — just being in the moment and enjoying it. I don't want to take anything away from it."

LOOK: DJ Chark makes Falcons training camp debut at Saturday's practice

The Atlanta Falcons added more offensive firepower over the weekend, officially signing wide receiver DJ Chark Jr. to their 90-man training camp roster on Saturday morning. Chark is expected to help fill in for Darnell Mooney, who will be out for a few weeks due to a shoulder injury. The 28-year-old is an experienced veteran with versatility to play outside or in the slot. In 2019, Chark recorded a career-high 1,008 receiving yards and eight touchdowns for the Jacksonville Jaguars, leading to his first and only Pro Bowl appearance. Over seven NFL seasons, Chark has recorded 216 catches, 3,100 receiving yards and 24 touchdowns with four different teams. The former second-round pick has racked up at least 500 receiving yards in four of his seven years in the league. Chark made his camp debut on Saturday and was spotted wearing the No. 16 uniform. Mooney was a key part of the Falcons offense last season, recording 992 receiving yards in 16 games. In the meantime, Drake London and Kyle Pitts have been picking up the slack. London made an impressive one-handed grab on Saturday, while Pitts dominated the team's opening practice. Claressa Shields arrives for weigh-in clad in unforgettable outfit

Claressa Shields turned heads at the weigh-in a day before her fight against Lani Daniels in Detroit, Saturday, July 26. The undisputed women's heavyweight champion wore high heels, a fur coat, an eye-catching swimsuit and a G.W.O.A.T. chain. Before Shields stepped on the scale, someone brushed her long blond hair and she flexed her biceps. Her official weight: 174.6 pounds. Shields' opponent, New Zealander Lani Daniels, showed up at the weigh-in wearing a bucket hat and a fishing vest while paying tribute to the indigenous Maori. She is of Maori descent. With Shields' undisputed heavyweight world title on the line, promoter Dmitriy Salitas said he expects Shields (16-0, 3 KOs) will be fighting Daniels (11-2-2, 1 KO) in front of a sellout crowd of 19,000 at Little Caesars Arena. Daniels, 37, is the current IBF light heavyweight champion and held the IBF world heavyweight title in 2023. 'She's not as big as Danielle Perkins,'' Shields said, referring to her last opponent, 'but she's very elusive. She's fast, she's aggressive, she's very awkward and I look forward to figuring it out and fighting her on Saturday. 'I am very great at being very strategic and figuring out how about putting my opponent through the most pain and beat 'em up in here. And that's my own goal is just to beat her up. I want to beat Lani Daniels up. I want to put her on an entertaining fight. I want to collect some more belts and I want to continue to let everybody know I'm the greatest woman of all time because the things that I do these other girls can't do.'' NFL training camp 2025 news, live updates: Shedeur Sanders throws dime of a TD in practice

[Top training camp stories | NFL team feeds | NFL training camp live blog] All 32 NFL teams have reported to training camp, and there's no shortage of intrigue and storylines so far. Shedeur Sanders threw a touchdown pass during Saturday's Cleveland Browns practice that got social media buzzing. Check out this dime to fellow rookie Luke Floriea out of Kent State: Sanders finished 8 of 11 with three touchdowns while working with the second team in red zone 11-on-11s and the third team in 7-on-7s, among other setups. Joe Flacco went 4 of 8, Kenny Pickett went 6 of 10 with two touchdowns, and Dillon Gabriel went 8 of 15 with a touchdown, per ESPN Cleveland. "That's not my place to answer, to even be able to give the answer to that. I feel like it's not in my control, so I'm not even gonna have that in my thought process," Sanders said. Top NFL training camp stories Shemar Stewart agreed to a fully guaranteed deal with the Bengals on Friday, bringing to an end a months-long standoff over contract language with the 17th overall pick of April's draft. The $18.97 million is fully guaranteed, with a reported $10.4 million signing bonus. As part of the deal, Cincinnati reportedly softened language in the controversial clause that allowed the team to void Stewart's guaranteed money if he engaged in "detrimental" conduct. Now the Bengals turn their attention toward Trey Hendrickson, their other contract stalemate with a star pass rusher. The Raiders sent a clear message by releasing Christian Wilkins over a disagreement in his rehab after a foot injury: If you're not going to be playing for us, you're not going to be sticking around with us. Without a doubt, that's how this new regime under head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek is planning to operate moving forward, refusing to hang onto what it views as roster-building errors from past regimes and also aiming to be aggressive in moving on from any mistakes it might commit in the future. Are we sure Aaron Rodgers will only be a Steeler for a year, if things go well? In response to a question from Rich Eisen about possibly keeping Rodgers around longer than the one year he's signed for, general manager Omar Khan said, "Obviously, we have to see how the season goes, but absolutely. He's a young 41, and we're obviously taking it year-by-year, and that's where we're at. But we're obviously not closing the door on anything." Interesting.
