EAC upsets Perpetual for third win in a row in Filoil preseason action
The Generals rode on the steady shooting of Brianne Angeles, Joshua Tolentino, and Jon Cudiamat to race to their third straight win and hike their record to 5-1, tying De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde at second spot.
Angeles top-scored with 12 points laced with four rebounds and one assist while Tolentino and Cudiamat each chipped in 11 markers as the Generals continued to prove that they're a legit title contender come NCAA Season 101.
'Ever since naman, naniniwala kami na kaya naming maging contender. Ang maganda lang is nagde-deliver na yung mga bata sa sistema namin," EAC head coach Jerson Cabiltes said.
EAC, which narrowly missed a Final Four spot last Season 100 due to a 9-9 record, was off to a hot start against the struggling Perpetual with Tolentino and other key vets in Kyle Ochavo and Nicole Quinal leading their first quarter barrage, 24-11.
It was all EAC since then with Jethro Bacud even sending them to a 26-point cushion after his layup midway in the fourth period, 70-44.
The loss, meanwhile, sent the ALTAs to a 1-4 slate. Only Patrick Sleat could come up with a double-digit production after the former FEU standout posted 10 points.
Before this game, EAC had also frustrated defending champion Mapua University, 71-64, before pulling off a tight 75-71 escape victory against Jose Rizal University.

San Beda completes comeback vs. Mapua to snap skid
Zedjay Etulle capped off a mighty San Beda University comeback against Mapua University, 73-72, as the Red Lions broke out of slump in the 18th Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup on Saturday. The 6-foot-5 wingman dropped a floater off an offensive rebound and assist from veteran Yukien Andrada, giving San Beda a 73-71 lead with 23 seconds left in the fourth period. Although Etulle wasn't able to sink the free throw, it was enough to salvage the Red Lions as Clint Escamis misfired a desperate three-pointer. The win allowed San Beda to come back from 12 points down, thanks to a masterful fourth quarter that saw the wards of head coach Yuri Escueta unleash 21 points while limiting the reigning NCAA champions to just eight. Andrada led the charge with 16 points laced with six rebounds, two assists, and two steals while Jomel Puno and Agjanti Miller scattered 14 and 13 markers apiece as they snapped out of two-game slide to improve to 2-3. Etulle, meanwhile, finished with 11 points, two rebounds, and two dimes in just 14 minutes of action. Red-hot Arellano, Perpetual rout foes to keep playoffs hopes alive
On-fire Arellano University and University of Perpetual Help System DALTA dominated their respective opponents to stay on course in the 18th Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup on Saturday. The Chiefs rolled to their fourth straight win via a 92-76 win against the winless San Sebastian College-Recoletos while the ALTAs crushed the struggling Lyceum of the Philippines University, 94-79. Arellano, still on a high following three consecutive victories over defending champion Mapua, San Beda, and LPU, flexed its depth and might with King Vinoya leading the charge with 21 points, three steals, two rebounds, and an assist as they improved to 5-3. Second-generation baller Dre Miller, meanwhile, chipped in 10 markers to help the Chiefs momentarily take the fourth spot. The rebuilding Stags ended their campaign with a tough 0-9 card as new head coach Rob Labagala continued to revive San Sebastian's basketball program. In the second game, Perpetual has turned its fortunes around in the preseason showcase after earning its third win in a row to hike its record to 4-4 while the Pirates slipped to 1-6. Guard Shawn Orgo showed the way with 14 points laced with four assists, two rebounds, and two steals while transferee Josh Alcantara and veteran John Abis chipped in 11 and 10 markers apiece. NBA: Grizzlies trade 4 picks for Cedric Coward

The Grizzlies sent the No. 16 pick in the 2025 draft, a 2028 first-round pick (via the Orlando Magic) and two second-round selections to acquire the 6-foot-6 Coward, who began his college career playing Division III basketball but kept climbing the ladder with an automatic jumper, a 7-foot-2 wingspan and an indefatigable work ethic. Coward averaged 17.7 points and 7.0 rebounds in six games last year for Washington State before sustaining a season-ending shoulder injury that required surgery. He committed to transfer to Duke for the upcoming season but opted to stay in the draft after earning rave reviews. The Houston Rockets selected Duke freshman center Khaman Maluach with the No. 10 pick overall, but he will be shipped to the Phoenix Suns as part of a deal reported Sunday that will send future Hall of Famer Kevin Durant from the Suns to the Rockets. The trade will be executed on July 6. Phoenix made another splash moments earlier, acquiring center Mark Williams from the Charlotte Hornets for the No. 29 selection (UConn guard Liam McNeeley) and a 2029 first-round pick. The 2029 selection will be the least favorable of Cleveland, Minnesota (1-5 protected) and Utah. Williams, a three-year veteran, averaged 15.3 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 44 games with Charlotte last season. As lottery picks kept going off the board, teams kept working their way up in the draft. The New Orleans Pelicans sent their first-rounder (23rd overall, Georgia's Asa Newell) and an unprotected 2026 first-round pick (most favorable of Milwaukee and New Orleans) to the Atlanta Hawks for the 13th overall pick. The Pelicans used it to select Maryland freshman center Derik Queen, who earned the Big Ten's Freshman of the Year award ahead of the Rutgers duo of Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey. The Kings reportedly dealt their 2027 first-round pick to the champion Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for the 24th overall pick, which Sacramento used to select Colorado State guard Nique Clifford. The Indiana Pacers made the first trade on draft night. A week after trading away their first-round pick, they acquired a second-round pick from the San Antonio Spurs shortly before the draft began. The Pacers landed the 38th overall pick from the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for the Kings' second-round selection in 2030 plus cash considerations. Indiana acquired the 2030 pick in a deal for shooting guard Chris Duarte in 2023. After trading the 23rd selection to the New Orleans Pelicans last week to reacquire their 2026 first-rounder, the Pacers now have picks No. 38 and 54 in this year's draft. The 2026 pick initially was included in the deal to acquire Pascal Siakam from the Toronto Raptors. Toronto then shipped it to New Orleans as part of a package for Brandon Ingram. Coming off a devastating Game 7 loss to the Thunder in the NBA Finals, the Pacers may look to add depth with the extra pick.
