Fermín Hits First Major League Homer to Break Tie in the Cardinals' Victory Over the Braves
The Braves added a run off Gordon Graceffo (3-0) in the seventh. Graceffo threw 1 2/3 innings. Ryan Helsley pitched the ninth for his 19th save. Matt Olson led the Braves with three RBIs on two hits. Chavez started the fifth for Atlanta. He gave up two runs with two outs when Willson Contreras dropped a double in shallow right field to tie it at 3. Reliever Steven Matz surrendered two runs in the fifth. Just before the game was halted for a second time, Olson singled home two runs for a 3-1 advantage.
St. Louis went up 1-0 in the second inning off Atlanta's Daniel Davis, who was recalled before the game and made his seventh career start and first this season. The Braves touched St. Louis starter Sonny Gray for a run in the third on three consecutive two-out singles in the third. Nick Allen scored on Olson's single off the wall in right field. St. Louis manager Oliver Marmol was ejected in the bottom of the ninth. It was his fourth ejection this season.
Key moment–Wynn's hustle led to the St. Louis' first run. He walked and stole second base. With two outs, Victor Scott II hit a ball that bounced off Davis and caromed into a vacant area between first and second. Wynn never stopped at third and scampered home to score without a throw.
Key stat–Fermín is hitting .381 in nine games since his June 25 recall from Triple-A Memphis.
Up next–The Braves return to action Friday when they host the New York Yankees. The Cardinals return to play Friday at Arizona.

Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suárez Is Hit By A Pitch On Left Hand At All-star Game; X-rays Are Negative
Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suárez appears to have dodged a major injury after he was hit by a pitch on his hand at Tuesday night's All-Star Game. Suárez dropped to his knees in obvious pain after being hit by Chicago White Sox right-hander Shane Smith in the eighth inning. NL manager Dave Roberts said Suárez got X-rays that came back negative. Suárez remained in the game but did not participate as planned in the first tiebreaking home run swing-off. He was replaced by Miami's Kyle Stowers as the NL won the swing-off 4-3. The pitch appeared to hit Suárez on his left pinkie finger at the end of the bat handle. He was examined by a trainer before staying in the game and jogging to first base. Suárez, who is hitting .250 with 31 home runs and 78 RBIs, is considered a possible top target at baseball's trade deadline. A serious injury could impact that trade outlook.

Caitlin Clark struggles in front of sold-out Boston Garden crowd but Fever beat Sun
Natasha Howard scored 18 points with 13 rebounds to lead the Indiana Fever to an 85-77 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday night in front of a sold-out crowd of 19,156 at the home of the Boston Celtics and Bruins. Caitlin Clark struggled during the game, scoring 14 points on 4 for 14 shooting, and walked off the court at the end crying and clutching her right leg. Clark missed five games recently and five others earlier in the season with left leg injuries. Tina Charles scored 21 points with 11 rebounds for the Sun, who fell to 3-19 for the season—the worst record in the WNBA. Dearica Hamby scored 26 points, Rickea Jackson had 22, and Los Angeles used a big first-half run to beat Washington. Shakira Austin had 16 points and eight rebounds for Washington. Sug Sutton added 14 points, and Aaliyah Edwards scored 13. The Sparks closed the first half on a 17-2 run over the final four minutes to reach their most points scored in any half this season at 59. Hamby scored 18 in the first half, including a 3-pointer just before the buzzer for a 25-point lead. The Mystics, who were held to 12 points in the second quarter, scored 12 points in the opening four minutes of the third. But the Sparks held onto their double-digit lead for the entire second half. Los Angeles (8-14) won consecutive games for the first time this season to match its win total from last season. Washington (11-11) had won three in a row.

Kyle Schwarber's 3 homers in all-star game's first tiebreaking swing-off lift nl over al
Kyle Schwarber went 3 for 3 in the first All-Star Game home run swing-off to put the National League ahead 4-3 following a 6-6 tie in which the American League rallied from a six-run deficit on Tuesday night. In baseballs equivalent of soccer's penalty-kicks shootout, the game was decided by having three batters from each league take three swings each off coaches. The change was agreed to in 2022 to alleviate the concern of teams running out of pitchers. Schwarber was named All-Star MVP after going 0 for 2 with a walk in the game. Brent Rooker put the AL ahead by homering on his last two swings, and Kyle Stowers–subbing for Eugenio Suárez–hit one. Randy Arozarena boosted the AL lead to 3-1, and Schwarber was successful on all three tries, going down to a knee as he sent one into the Chop House seats in right. Jonathan Aranda failed on all three tries, hitting the right-field wall with his second, and the NL didn't have to use its last batter, two-time Home Run Derby champion Pete Alonso, as it won for just the second time in the last 12 All-Star Games. The AL leads 48-45 with two ties.
