Malo Gusto backs Chelsea's ‘mental strength' in bid for Club World Cup glory

The London side take on Fluminense for a place in the final in New York on Tuesday.
Chelsea suffered a tough defeat to Flamengo in the group stage but have bounced back to reach the last four with hard-fought wins over Benfica and Palmeiras.
French defender Gusto said: 'During this competition, our mental strength has been the most important thing.
'That's why we are in the semi-final, because we've shown that on the pitch during all the games that we have had.
'We know the weather is tough, the pitch too, and all the teams are very good. There are many things are around the game and we have to deal with it.
'That's why this competition is so hard to play and that's why we are so happy to get this far.
'I think if we can overcome these hurdles we can do anything and that's why we must believe in ourselves, give our best and see what goes after. We have a chance of the trophy and that's what we must try to do.'
Chelsea will have Moises Caicedo available again at the MetLife Stadium after suspension and will hope Reece James and Romeo Lavia can overcome knocks. Liam Delap and Levi Colwill are banned after collecting their second bookings of the tournament against Palmeiras.
Gusto forced the late winner in the 2-1 quarter-final triumph over Palmeiras when his cross took two deflections and found its way into the Brazilians' net.
He said: 'It's important to do different things on the pitch. The coach asked me to do that and I tried to help the team as much as I can and I'm so happy to win through these games.'

Estevao Willian snubs Chelsea offer and reveals what Cole Palmer told him after netting against the Blues in Club World Cup quarter-final

Incoming Chelsea wonderkid Estevao Willian turned down an offer to continue his Club World Cup journey with his new club after his current side were dumped out of the competition by his future one. The 18-year-old, who netted for Palmeiras in their 2-1 last-eight defeat, will complete his move to the Blues later this month. The meeting of the two sides put the teenager in a unique win-win situation, a reality quickly manifested in the offer from Cole Palmer to link up with the Blues squad as they made their way to New York for their semi-final clash against Fluminense. But after enlisting the help of fellow new recruit Dario Essugo, whose linguistic skills deciphered the Mancunian accent Palmer's English invitation was delivered in, Estevao declined and insisted that he needed to say a proper goodbye to his soon-to-be former colleagues. 'I had to ask Essugo what Cole had said to me,' said Estevao. 'He laughed a bit before translating, telling me "Cole said he's excited for you and want you to come with us after the game".' 'I wanted to stay some more time with my team pals,' he added. 'I came here with them. And I should go back to Brazil with them. My heart is broken because only we know how hard we worked. 'But I leave with pride. And I am happy to have a giant club as Chelsea opening its doors to me. 'I just wanted to show my new fans in England who I am. That it is all. I hope to learn. I am sure I come to London to evolve, and to make history there too.' After Saturday's match, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca spoke glowingly of the winger, teasing an 'important' role for him. 'You can see he is a huge talent,' Maresca said post-match. 'You can see he is a fantastic player. The only thing now is when you come from South America or another part of the world to Europe you need to adapt. 'We are going to help him to adapt and first of all to enjoy football. We don't have any doubt, as he is so good, that he is going to be an important player for Chelsea.' Palmer made a point of embracing Estevao and swapping shirts with him after the final whistle, despite the language barrier. 'I told Estevao we are excited for you to join but he didn't understand a single word I said,' Palmer said. Chelsea struck a deal to sign the prodigy last year but he stayed in Brazil for one more season, and his talents were on show as he was named the player of the match against his future employers. He will shortly join up with their first-team squad. Estevao was, however, visibly emotional after bringing the curtain down on his time at the club which first thrust him into the spotlight.

Enzo Maresca confident Chelsea can ‘find solutions' to selection issues

The Blues take on Brazilian side Fluminense in New York on Tuesday for a place in Sunday's final. Striker Liam Delap and defender Levi Colwill are both suspended after receiving their second bookings of the tournament in the quarter-final win against Palmeiras. Midfielder Romeo Lavia has not recovered from a muscular problem and the fitness of captain Reece James continues to be monitored after a knock. Speaking at his pre-match press conference at the MetLife Stadium, Maresca said: 'I think in the last game we had Romeo out, Moi (Caicedo) out, Reece out and we found a solution with Andrey (Santos) playing in midfield. 'Now with Levi and Liam out, we will find different solutions.' Midfielder Moises Caicedo is available again after serving a ban and Nicolas Jackson and new signing Joao Pedro, who made his debut off the bench against Palmeiras, are competing to start up front. Maresca said: 'Romeo is training already. Unfortunately, though, he is not training with the team, so he is not ready for tomorrow. 'But Joao Pedro is ready and we also have Nico so, for sure, we will find a solution.' Chelsea are coming to the end of a long season that they began last August, whilst Fluminense are just 11 games into their Brazilian league campaign. Maresca said: 'In this tournament we have two different situations. 'How many games have the Brazilians played this season? We will have played 63 times. 'European teams come to this competition in a different way from the teams of the Brazil or the teams of South America, but the desire we have to win is the same.'
