Tyson Fury eyes third fight with Usyk after Dubois victory
Usyk, 38, remains undefeated and now holds the WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF belts. His previous victories over Fury—first by split decision in Riyadh last May, then by unanimous decision in Saudi Arabia last December—cemented his status as one of boxing's elite. Fury, however, disputes the outcomes.
The 36-year-old British fighter, who retired after his second loss to Usyk, hinted at a comeback earlier this month. In a recent Instagram video, Fury said, 'Massive shout-out to Oleksandr Usyk. He did a fantastic performance tonight over Daniel Dubois. But he knows there is only one man who can beat him. I did it twice before and the world knows it.'
Fury's promoter, Frank Warren, acknowledged the potential for a third fight but confirmed WBO mandatory challenger Joseph Parker is next in line.
'Tyson has made it clear he would love to fight at Wembley,' Warren said. 'But Joe Parker deserves his shot.' - AFP

Mexico's Chicharito apologises after sexist remarks spark outrage and fine
MEXICO CITY, July 25 — Mexican football icon Javier Hernandez apologised yesterday for making sexist remarks which led to him being sanctioned by Mexico's football federation and his club Guadalajara. Former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker Hernandez, 37, triggered uproar after comments in a TikTok video in which he accused women of 'failing' and 'eradicating masculinity'. 'Embody your feminine energy by caring, nurturing, giving life, cleaning and supporting the home,' Hernandez said in the video. 'Don't be afraid to be women, to allow yourselves to be led by a man who only wants one thing: to see you happy.' The comments prompted an outcry from Mexican football authorities while Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum also weighed in on Wednesday, denouncing Hernandez's remarks as representing a 'very macho idea' of women. Sheinbaum added that while Hernandez—affectionately known as 'Chicharito (little pea)'—was a 'great footballer', he still 'had a lot to learn'. The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) said Hernandez's comments 'promote sexist stereotypes and go against gender equality in sport', describing the remarks as a form of 'media violence'. The federation said it had imposed a fine and given Hernandez a warning about the comments. In a statement posted on Instagram on Thursday, Hernandez expressed regret for the remarks. 'I deeply regret any confusion or discomfort my recent comments may have caused,' Hernandez wrote in a post. 'It was never my intention to mock, hurt, or divide... I listen, I reflect, and I commit to expressing myself with greater clarity and sensitivity, especially on such sensitive issues.' Hernandez is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers in Mexican history, scoring 59 goals in 157 appearances for Manchester United before stints at Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, West Ham, Sevilla and Los Angeles Galaxy. — AFP

Barcelona's Ter Stegen to undergo back surgery, be out for three months
Barcelona captain and Germany keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen will be sidelined for three months as he recuperates from back surgery, the 33-year-old said in an Instagram post on Thursday. Ter Stegen missed seven months after suffering a knee injury last year, which forced him to have surgery before making his return in May. He previously underwent back surgery in 2023, which sidelined him for over two months. 'This time, the doctors believe about three months will be necessary as a precaution, to avoid any risks,' said Ter Stegen, who has been at Barcelona since 2014, winning six LaLiga titles and a Champions League with the club. 'Emotionally, it hurts a lot not being able to support the team during this time. Fortunately, the rehabilitation is manageable and the road back is clear.' - REUTERS
