'Amazon's ice maker is my most useful summer purchase'
There's little better than an ice cold drink on a clammy summer's day, but trying to find ice in the supermarkets and get it home before it melts can be a real faff. It's no surprise then that when a friend introduced me to the Amazon Silonn Portable Countertop Ice Maker, it turned out to be the kitchen gadget I never knew I needed.
At £65.99, the ice maker is a great warm weather investment, but I use mine year-round for hosting, homemade iced coffees, smoothies, cocktails, and to elevate my evening Diet Coke fix. I also think it's a great gift for someone who's hard to buy for as it's practical but won't break the bank. With BBQ season in full swing, I'd say now is the perfect time to snap one up.
It seems I'm not the only one who loves this nifty gadget either, as the Silonn Portable Countertop Ice Maker has an average 4.3 star rating on Amazon from over 20,000 reviews. One happy shopper said: 'You will be delighted you bought this! Life changing!'
Another reviewer also heaped praise on the gadget saying: 'Great machine, really easy to set up and use. Really quick ice cubes, if you set it to large ice cubes and leave it 30 minutes you get a full tray. Highly recommended.'
Personally, I find the ice maker handy as you simply add water to the reservoir, turn it on, and your ice tips into a tray where you can use the provided scoop to serve. It starts making ice in just six minutes, which is great if you have last minute plans. You'll hear the ice drop once it's ready, and a light on the machine indicates when the water tank needs refilling.
Also available is the Debenhams Pro Breeze Countertop Ice Cube Maker at £68 which one reviewer described as the 'best thing I have ever bought', and the Cookworks 1.8L Ice Cube Maker which can be purchased at Argos for £120. It holds around 100 ice cubes making it ideal if you often host.
One of the downsides of the Amazon ice maker is that it needs to be cleaned regularly and it can be a little fiddly to do. It does boast a self-cleaning function, but I find mine needs a manual wipe round too. However, if you empty the water tank when you turn the machine off it helps, and I personally feel it's a small price to pay for the convenience of ice on tap.
Some reviewers agreed, with one noting: 'It's great, it works well and it's everything you'd want, but it requires a lot of maintenance.' Another said 'self cleaning doesn't mean 'no cleaning.''
Maintenance aside, the portable ice machine also won't look out of place in your kitchen thanks to the sleek black design. It also doesn't take up a huge amount of space making it ideal for smaller countertops.
It's no surprise then that most of the product's reviews are overwhelmingly positive, with one happy shopper who titled their review 'It's worth the money' saying: 'I have found the ice making machine fantastic. It makes plenty of ice. If water runs out it stops, gives indication then starts up again. If the internal ice bucket is full, again it stops automatically. Empty the bucket and it starts up again automatically.'

Retailers log $7.9 billion in online sales in first 24 hours of Prime Day
U.S. online sales jumped 9.9% year over year to $7.9 billion on Tuesday, the kickoff of Amazon 's Prime Day megasale, according to Adobe Analytics. At that level, it marks the 'single biggest e-commerce day so far this year,' Adobe said. It also eclipsed total online spending during Thanksgiving last year, when sales on the holiday reached $6.1 billion. Amazon's Prime Day bargain blitz began on Tuesday and lasts through Friday. The event, first launched in 2015 as a way to hook new Prime members, has pushed other retailers to launch counterprogramming. Walmart 's six-day deals event also started Tuesday, while Target Circle Week kicked off on Sunday and Best Buy launched a Black Friday in July promotion that began Monday. Home and outdoor goods showed signs of strong demand during the first day of Amazon's discount event, said Kashif Zafar, CEO of Xnurta, an advertising platform that serves more than 20,000 online businesses. Other historically well-performing categories such as beauty and household essentials saw softer demand early on, but could see demand pick up as Prime Day continues, he added. 'Early Prime Day numbers might look soft compared to last year's surge, but it's too early to call the event a miss,' Zafar said in an email. 'With four days instead of two, we're seeing a different rhythm, consumers are spreading out their purchases.' Adobe expects online sales to reach $23.8 billion across all retailers during the 96-hour event, a level that's 'equivalent to two Black Fridays.' U.S. online shoppers spent $14.2 billion during the 48-hour Prime Day event last year, according to Adobe. This year's Prime Day is landing at an uncertain time for retailers and consumers as they grapple with the fallout of President Donald Trump 's unpredictable tariff policies. U.S. consumer confidence worsened in June after improving in May as Americans remained concerned about the tariffs' effect on the economy and prices, according to the Conference Board. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said last month the company hasn't seen prices 'appreciably go up' on its site as a result of tariffs. Some third-party sellers previously told CNBC they were considering raising or had already raised the price of some of their products manufactured in China as the cost of tariffs became burdensome.

Major retailer slashes Shark SmoothStyle wet-to-dry hot brush by 51% to lowest EVER price
SHARK just reduced its popular SmoothStyle hair tool to its lowest ever price in the Amazon Prime Day sale. The wet-to-dry hot brush is reduced by a huge 51%, taking it down from £99.99 to £49.49 for a limited time. Shark SmoothStyle Heated Brush & Comb, £49.49 (was £99.99) BUY HERE Shark is one of the best-loved brands when it comes to tech tools, and it broke into the beauty world to rival the iconic Dyson Airwrap with its FlexStyle air styler. The Shark SmoothStyle is another of its beauty tech gadgets, which can be used on wet and dry hair to create sleek styles. It's a hot brush and smoothing comb in one, so beauty fans can use the heated comb to dry the hair and add volume, while the ceramic-coated plate adds a smooth finish. The styler has two modes for wet and dry hair, along with three air temperatures. If you're looking to invest in a heated hair tool and are unsure which one to choose, you can read our tried-and-tested roundup of the best hot brushes and the best hair straighteners. Shark SmoothStyle Heated Brush & Comb, £49.49 (was £99.99) BUY HERE Amazon shoppers have been raving about the Shark tool online. One reviewer wrote: "This is honestly the best hair tool I have used, I've had other very highly rated brands that did a good job but this Shark SmoothStyle is another level. The hairdryer in this brush is as powerful as my salon hairdryer and the brush barrel is large so you get the salon blow-out effect. I love the look the hot comb gives for days in between washes, and my hair honestly looks and feels like I've been to the hairdressers every time I use it. I will say it's a little heavier than other hot brushes but the quality is outstanding and I might get a glove for when I use the comb part as it does get hot - but overall, it's outstanding." The SmoothStyle is one of the many beauty deals available in the Amazon Prime Day sale, which is running from 8-11 July. Some of the other top deals for beauty fans include the Dyson Airwrap I.D, which is reduced by £80. Haircare fans have also been racing to shop Color Wow's viral Dream Coat Spray that's down by 41%, while St Tropez's popular Express fake tan is reduced by a staggering 63% to £12. The big shopping event is seeing prices being slashed across all categories, including tech, home and garden and fashion. Deals are constantly changing, and we're anticipating mass sell-outs of some of the top bargains.
