AN integrated resort and a global travel service provider have signed two landmark memoranda of understanding to strengthen their strategic collaboration.
The agreements between Resorts World Genting (RWG) and Trip.com Group aim to boost Malaysia's inbound travel, leveraging the latter's global audience as RWG's top supporting online travel agency (OTA).
The agreements marked a major milestone in connectivity, marketing innovation and market-specific engagement, reflecting a commitment to delivering seamless, personalised and elevated travel experiences for international tourists, according to a media statement by RWG.
One feature is the direct integration between Trip.com and RWG's hotel and theme park booking systems, enabling real-time inventory updates, instant confirmations and rate parity across platforms, providing a streamlined booking experience.
Trip.com customers will enjoy exclusive offers and enhanced convenience when planning their visit to RWG.
RWG sales, marketing and public relations executive vice-president Spencer Lee said, 'We are witnessing strong travel momentum across the region, especially Malaysia, and our partnership with Trip.com enhances our ability to meet this growing demand.
'We are well-positioned to offer a streamlined travel journey supported by exceptional leisure, hospitality and entertainment offerings.'
There will also be a series of marketing campaigns to drive awareness of RWG among international travellers, with a focus on the Asian market.
These collaborative campaigns, ranging from flash sales to member-exclusive deals, will be powered by Trip.com's traveller insights and vast marketing ecosystem.
'We are delighted by this strengthened partnership with RWG, enhancing our product offerings with one of Malaysia's most recognised hospitality brands,' said Boon Sian Chai, Trip.com managing director and vice-president of international markets.
'Malaysia is a key growth market for Trip.com and this collaboration reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting its tourism sector.
'As a one-stop travel platform, we are focused on delivering a seamless end-to-end user experience, from planning to booking to travelling.'
Trip.com attractions and tours general manager Chase Liu said, 'We are proud to be the first OTA to implement direct integration with RWG, which will make it even easier for our customers to easily discover and experience local hotspots.
'We are confident that our joint efforts will not only boost RWG's presence in key international markets, but also further reinforce Trip.com as a leading travel services provider providing access to top-tier attractions.'
The collaboration was also a strategic move in anticipation of Visit Malaysia 2026, supporting Tourism Malaysia's mission to promote the country as a top travel destination, the statement added.

Stocks rise, euro firms after US-EU trade agreement

A woman walks past an electronic screen displaying the stock index prices of Asian countries outside a brokerage in Tokyo, Japan April 24, 2025. REUTERS/Issei Kato SINGAPORE: Global stocks rose and the euro firmed on Monday after a trade agreement between the United States and the EU lifted sentiment and provided some clarity in a week of key policy meetings by the Federal Reserve and the Bank of Japan. The U.S. struck a framework trade agreement with the European Union, imposing a 15% import tariff on most EU goods - half the threatened rate, a week after agreeing to a trade deal with Japan that lowered proposed tariffs on auto imports. Countries are scrambling to finalise trade deals ahead of an August 1 deadline set by U.S. President Donald Trump, with talks between the U.S. and China set for Monday in Stockholm amid expectations of another 90-day extension to the truce between the world's top two economies. "A 15% tariff on European goods, forced purchases of U.S. energy and military equipment and zero tariff retaliation by Europe, that's not negotiation, that's the art of the deal," said Prashant Newnaha, senior Asia-Pacific rates strategist at TD Securities. "A big win for the U.S." S&P 500 futures rose 0.4% and the Nasdaq futures gained 0.5% while the euro firmed across the board, rising against the dollar, sterling and yen. European futures surged nearly 1%. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up 0.27%, just shy of the almost four-year high it touched last week. Japan's Nikkei fell 0.8% after hitting a one-year high last week. While the baseline 15% tariff will still be seen by many in Europe as too high, compared with Europe's initial hopes to secure a zero-for-zero tariff deal, it is better than the threatened 30% rate. The U.S.-EU deal provides clarity to companies and averts a bigger trade war between the two allies that account for almost a third of global trade. "A major tail-risk has now been defused," said Marc Velan, head of investments at Lucerne Asset Management in Singapore. "Markets are interpreting this as a sign of stability and predictability returning to trade policy," he added. "The China delay fits the same pattern: the administration is opting for controlled diplomacy over confrontation." China's blue-chip stocks rose 0.3% while the Hong Kong's Hang Seng index advanced 0.75%. The Australian dollar, often seen as a proxy for risk appetite, was at $0.657, hovering around the near eight-month peak scaled last week. FED, BOJ AWAIT In an action-packed week, investors will watch out for the monetary policy meetings from the Fed and the BOJ as well as the monthly U.S. employment report and earnings from megacap companies Apple, Microsoft and Amazon . While the Fed and the BOJ are expected to maintain rates, comments from the officials will be crucial for investors to gauge the interest rate path. The trade deal with Japan has opened the door for the BOJ to raise rates again this year. Meanwhile, the Fed is likely to be cautious on any rate cuts as officials seek more data to determine tariffs' impact on inflation before they ease rates further. But tensions between the White House and the central bank over monetary policy have increased, with Trump repeatedly lashing out at Fed Chair Jerome Powell for not cutting rates. Two of the Fed Board's Trump appointees have articulated reasons for supporting a rate cut this month. "Inflation readings, particularly the PCE index, and the upcoming July jobs report will shape expectations beyond this meeting, with the next likely policy pivot now pushed out to September if inflation continues to ease," said Kieran Williams, head of Asia FX at InTouch Capital Markets. In commodities, oil prices rose after the U.S.-EU trade agreement. Brent crude futures and U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude both rose 0.5%. Gold prices fell on Monday to their lowest in nearly two weeks on reduced appetite for safe havens. - Reuters

Stylish new midtown stay in KL

A STRIKING new landmark is about to make its mark on the Kuala Lumpur skyline; and it's not just another luxury hotel. Set to open its doors on Aug 26, Hyatt Regency Kuala Lumpur at KL Midtown brings with it a renewed sense of purpose and design. More than just a return of the Hyatt Regency brand to the capital, this property offers a modern take on what city hospitality can look and feel like. It will be one that blends global polish with local warmth. Located across from Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre, the hotel is positioned in the heart of KL Midtown, a fast-rising district poised to become the city's new hub for conventions, commerce and culture. Beyond the address, it is the design that is turning heads. At the helm of the hotel's architecture is Kengo Kuma, the renowned Japanese architect behind Tokyo's National Stadium. China House to offer bold Chinese flavours. Known for his devotion to natural materials and harmony with the environment, Kuma brings his signature style to the property – think wood, stone and paper textures, softened light, and a sense of openness that subtly transports guests away from the urban rush. Inside, it houses 410 rooms, including 306 hotel rooms and suites and 104 fully serviced residences, a dual offering that caters to both short-stay business travellers and families looking for longer-term city living. It is this balance that defines the hotel's character, general manager Till Martin said in an interview with StarMetro. 'Hyatt Regency Kuala Lumpur at KL Midtown sets itself apart from other five-star hotels in the city; we don't want to end up in the sea of sameness. 'I have only been in Kuala Lumpur for a year, but it has interesting because I've never been to a country or city where 95% of all five-star hotels are in the same area,' said Martin, whose 29-year journey with Hyatt included various locations such as Germany, the United States, United Arab Emirates, South Korea and China. He emphasised the hotel's unique location, offering easy access and connectivity. You will get a sense of zen as you step into the premises, said Martin, 'thanks to Kuma's unique touch in turning it into an urban oasis'. With 16 function spaces and a pillarless ballroom, the hotel is geared to support the city's growing appetite for events. After hours, the hotel transforms into a sanctuary. Guests can unwind by the fifth floor infinity pool, encircled by tropical greenery, or visit the Core Fitness Centre outfitted with top-tier equipment and personal trainers on request. Those staying in the serviced residences can take it a notch higher with exclusive access to a private 32nd floor pool. Martin emphasised the hotel's commitment to sustainability, including plastic-free initiatives, utilisation of natural products and solar panels, and a focus on food waste management. The hotel will be home to a diverse line-up of venues including Midtown Brasseries serving all-day fare and a curated Asian buffet, Midtown Lounge for a spot of coffee or casual meetings, Enso Izakaya & Bar featuring authentic yakitori and a deep sake library. There's also China House serving bold northern Chinese flavours anchored by its wood-fired Peking Duck, and Breeze Poolside Bar for light bites and sunset drinks.

Etiquette training for cabbies in the works

KUALA LUMPUR: The Transport Ministry plans to provide basic language and driver etiquette training for taxi drivers ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026), says Anthony Loke ( pic ). The Transport Minister said this is important because the taxi industry is more than just transportation as it represents the heartbeat of public service and serves as the first impression of the country for tourists. He added that the government has also extended the Social Security Organisation contribution incentive from 10% to 30% to safeguard the safety and welfare of taxi drivers. 'These reforms are ongoing, and I will continue to work with this industry to strengthen the public transport sector for the benefit of the people,' he posted on Facebook, Bernama reported. Earlier, Loke launched the third annual general meeting of the Malaysia Taxi, Rental Car, Limousine and Airport Taxi Association.
