Brit woman killed in horror holiday jetski crash in tourist hotspot
A British woman has been killed in a jet ski accident while on holiday on the Costa del Sol.
The 43-year-old is believed to have died instantly after being hit by a speedboat, which police sources said today was being driven by a friend who allegedly failed a breath test after the fatal crash. The incident happened around 7.25pm on Saturday at a beach called Los Toros just west of the popular holiday resort of Estepona.
A spokesman for the Civil Guard in Malaga said: 'I can confirm the dead woman is a 43-year-old British national. She was a passenger on the jet ski.'
A well-placed police source said: 'The jet ski was being driven by her partner. They appear to have been hit from behind by a friend at the wheel of a speedboat. He failed a breath test after the collision so he's likely to have been arrested but that is not something I can confirm at this stage.'
The woman killed is believed to have been on holiday in the area. The nationality of her partner and of the 'friend' said to have been driving the speedboat is not yet known.
A spokesman for a regional government-run emergency response coordination centre, speaking before police confirmed the nationality of the victim, said: 'A woman died late on Saturday in the town of Manilva in Malaga in a collision between a jet ski and a motorboat.
'The nautical accident occurred on Los Toros beach at around 19:25 hours, when several witnesses alerted the coordination centre of a collision between a jet ski and a speedboat. The Civil Guard went to the scene with coastguards who mobilised a boat called Gadir and emergency medical responders.'

But the 'rogue driver' allegedly switched routes and took her to Palma airport instead after telling her to pay £42 upfront. The alleged case, which reportedly took place in 2023, is now set to go to court. It is understood that public prosecutors will also demand £6,000 in compensation if Mr Singh is found guilty. A three-page pre-trial indictment submitted by public prosecutors states 'The friend told the accused where he should take her. 'A few metres into the journey, the accused stopped the vehicle and told the British woman she should pay EUROS 50 for the fare upfront and move from the back to sit beside him in the passenger seat. 'She followed his instructions, paying with a card. 'Following on from that, the accused, taking advantage of an inebriated woman who was alone in a place she didn't know, changed the agreed route and took the motorway towards the airport. 'On the way, with lascivious and lustful intent, he touched her breasts and her groin over her clothes and tried to kiss her. 'When they reached the airport, he told her to get out and said, 'This is how things are done in Spain so get used to it.'" Public prosecutors say the Brit woman has needed counselling for 'severe anxiety and depression' after going through the alleged incident. The indictment added: 'The main problem is the traumatic flashbacks.' It is not yet clear how the accused cabbie will plead when the case gets to court. A date for the trial has yet to be set. It comes after two Brits were arrested last month on suspicion of raping a teen tourist from the UK at their rented Costa del Sol villa. Grieving mum sues funeral home after son's body shown 'covered with maggots'
An American funeral home faces a lawsuit after allegedly allowing a man's body to appear infested with maggots at his open-casket funeral. The memorial for Torreon Williams, 24, was held a week after he died in a car accident in Chesapeake, Virginia, in May 2022. His body was embalmed after his death, a process which typically halts decay enough for the deceased to be shown for up to around seven days. But Torreon's mother Tabitha was left screaming at the 'shock and horror' of seeing her late son's face and body visibly infested with maggots when she approached his casket, according to a lawsuit she has filed since. 'As mourners approached the body of Torreon Williams, these people noticed that Torreon Williams' body, particularly his face, nose and mouth, were covered with and consumed by clumps of maggots', documents filed for the plaintiffs at court said. Seeing Ms Williams' reaction, an employee then allegedly put his hands on her and said: 'Don't you make a scene.' Another employee is said to have refused any responsibility for the situation, commenting that 'flies got to him'. 'The maggots had been on and in Torreon Williams' body for a significant period of time and had been purposely ignored on the day of Torreon Williams' service', the plaintiffs' documents add. It is also alleged that holes appeared in Torreon's cheek 'that had not existed previously', into which the maggots burrowed. The defendants, Snellings Funeral Home, are accused of failing to properly clean and disinfect Torreon's body before he was embalmed. 'They provided this family with a grotesque freak show,' attorney Kevin Sharp, who is representing Ms Williams, told local outlet WAVY News. 'Maggots pouring out of this young man's nose.
