Pope Leo XIV's MAGA Brother Gets White House Blessing From Trump

Yahoo21-05-2025
Louis Prevost — the self-described 'MAGA-type' older brother of new Pope Leo XIV — and his wife Deborah met with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance at the White House on Tuesday.
They had a 'great meeting,' White House aide Margo Martin wrote on social media.
It's not clear what they talked about.
Prevost has previously shared vile content online that trolls and trashes Democrats.
'Sometimes I like to go stir the pot,' he confessed to Piers Morgan last week. 'A lot like I think President Trump does. He says things just to stir the pot. Cause it's fun to like get into some of these debates with people sometimes from the other side.'
U.S. Navy veteran Prevost, who lives in Florida, did tell Morgan that he'd be dialing the rhetoric down following his sibling's election to pontiff.
'I don't need to create heat for him,' he said.
Conversely, the new pope, the first born in the U.S., has previously shared posts that slam Trump and Vance.
Louis Prevost sat next to second lady Usha Vance and her husband, the vice president, a Catholic convert, during the pope's inaugural mass at The Vatican on Sunday. During the mass, Leo urged the rejection of hatred and division. Louis also joined the U.S. delegation's meeting with the pope on Monday.
JD Vance has invited the pope to visit America on an official trip.

'Trump's Weak Dollar Dream Will Be A Nightmare' Because His Policies Are 'Highly Inflationary,' Economist Peter Schiff Says

President Donald Trump's views about the dollar are getting strong pushback from economists like Chief Economist and Global Strategist Peter Schiff. 'Trump said he wants a strong dollar but he also wants a weaker dollar. He says a strong dollar makes you feel better, but a weak dollar makes you richer,' Schiff wrote on X last week. He added that although Trump claims he crushed inflation, his policies are highly inflationary, saying, 'Trump's weak dollar dream will be a nightmare.' You can Trump Defends a Weaker Dollar, But Economists Aren't Buying It What caused Schiff's comments is what Trump told reporters at the White House on Friday: 'It doesn't sound good, but you make a hell of a lot more money with a weaker dollar, not a weak dollar, but a weaker dollar than you do with a strong dollar.' Trump argued that a strong dollar 'sounds good' and helps with inflation, but he also said, 'You can't sell tractors, you can't sell trucks, you can't sell anything.' He claimed that countries like China and Japan have long pushed for weaker currencies to dominate global markets. Financial experts, however, warn that Trump's stance could $100k+ in investable assets? – no cost, no obligation. 9i Capital Group Chief Executive Officer Kevin Thompson told Newsweek that while a weaker dollar helps U.S. exporters and multinational corporations, it can be bad news for households. 'The U.S. is a consumer-driven, import-heavy economy,' he said. 'A weaker dollar makes imports more expensive, which can drive inflation. So while there are benefits on the corporate side, it also hurts households by increasing the cost of everyday goods.' Thompson also took issue with Trump's claim that the U.S. has 'wiped out inflation.' 'He's dead wrong,' Thompson told Newsweek. 'We're still seeing elevated prices in areas like energy, particularly piped gas, and in household essentials. Food costs continue to climb, especially meat, and many families are seeing higher utility bills.' The dollar has dropped over 10% this year compared to a basket of foreign currencies. The last time the dollar weakened this much early in a year was has said a weaker dollar could help U.S. manufacturers compete globally and boost tourism. He cited the recent rise in Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE:CAT) shares as an example of how a declining dollar benefits heavy industry. Still, economists caution that a weaker dollar also means Americans pay more when they travel abroad and face higher prices on imported goods. While the president insists his policies are aimed at strengthening the economy, critics argue that continued deficit spending and rising debt are already shaking global confidence in the dollar. As Schiff wrote on X back in May, 'The yield on 10-year Treasuries is back up to 4.5% as the U.S. dollar resumes its broad-based decline. Despite the trade truce, the world is losing confidence in the dollar and our ability to get our fiscal house in order. The consequences of de-dollarization will be profound.' Judge Accuses Elon Musk and Sam Altman of ‘Gamesmanship' in Court

Elon Musk scored a small win in court on Tuesday in his case against Sam Altman, but the judge wasn't impressed with either side's tactics, reprimanding them for 'gamesmanship.' Calling out both sides for having 'repeatedly over-litigated the case,' U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers granted Musk's motion to strike several of Altman's defenses. This is the latest in Musk's ongoing feud with Altman. Musk originally filed the lawsuit last year in a federal court in Northern California, accusing Altman and OpenAI of fraud. Musk claims he was misled into co-founding and funding OpenAI in 2015 under the belief that it would remain a non-profit. The lawsuit claims that Altman built a secretive network of for-profit OpenAI affiliates, took control of the non-profit's board, engaged in self-dealing, and diverted the non-profit's talent and tech for financial gain. The resulting corporate structure, the suit says, is now worth an estimated $100 billion. The filing frames Musk's case as 'a textbook tale of altruism versus greed.' Notably, Musk dropped a similar suit against OpenAI earlier last year. Altman's team responded by filing 55 affirmative defenses, introducing new facts not mentioned in Musk's original complaint. In a December blog post, OpenAI claimed that when Musk was still with the organization, he actually wanted it to become for-profit with himself at the helm. On Tuesday, Judge Gonzalez Rogers trimmed that list of 55 defenses, ruling that some were 'irrelevant, redundant, insufficient, or immaterial.' She also criticized Musk's legal team for trying to strike all the defenses, saying they failed 'to take the high ground.' Instead, the judge slimmed down the defenses by 16, leaving 39 in the case. 'The Court will not waste precious judicial resources on the parties' gamesmanship,' Judge Gonzalez Rogers wrote. 'OpenAI's deflective strategy of wild distraction is wearing thin on everyone,' said Marc Toberoff, Musk's lead lawyer in the case, in a statement emailed to Gizmodo. 'We look forward to prosecuting this case on the real issues: OpenAI's ongoing fraud and complete betrayal of its charitable mission.' Attorneys representing Altman did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Gizmodo. This isn't the first time the judge has seemed unimpressed with the case. Business Insider reported in February that Judge Gonzalez Rogers expressed doubt about Musk's claim of 'irreparable harm,' saying, 'I have billionaires versus billionaires.' Jury selection for the case is scheduled to begin on March 30. Musk helped start OpenAI with Altman and others back in 2015, but he left in 2018 after disagreements about where the company was headed. Since then, he launched his own AI for-profit company, xAI, to go head-to-head with OpenAI. The rivalry between them has only gotten more intense, even extending into the world of politics. Earlier this year, Musk stepped down from his role at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and got into a public back-and-forth with President Donald Trump on social media. Around the same time, Altman joined Trump for a long one-on-one meeting. Shortly after, Trump publicly praised Altman's AI infrastructure efforts, which Musk has not been shy about criticizing.
