US Senators Applaud Strong, Strategic Ties with Morocco

Rabat – During a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing in Washington, several US senators spoke of the deep and strategic partnership between the United States and Morocco. The hearing was held to confirm Duke Buchan III as the new US Ambassador to Morocco. Senators from both major parties noted Morocco's importance as one of America's oldest allies and a key partner in Africa and beyond. Republican Senator Bill Hagerty, a senior member of the committee, said Morocco is a vital and long-time ally located at the crossroads of Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. He commended Morocco's leadership in regional security and the fight against terrorism, as well as its efforts to promote socio-economic development and peaceful coexistence. Morocco and the United States are 'historic' partners who share a strong desire to deepen cooperation in many areas, Hagerty stated. Democratic Senator Chris Murphy also spoke highly of the US-Morocco relationship. He said the ties between the two countries remain strong and stable, calling Morocco a leading country in the region and beyond in the eyes of the United States. Another Democratic senator, Jacky Rosen, pointed to the importance of growing cooperation between the two countries, especially in new and critical areas such as cybersecurity and energy. Duke Buchan III, the ambassador nominee, also addressed the committee. He described Morocco as a 'pillar of stability,' and said the country plays a key role in supporting US national security due to its strategic location. Buchan was officially nominated in March by President Donald Trump. If confirmed, he will take over as the new American ambassador in Rabat.

Under HM the King's Leadership, Morocco Stands out as Emerging Power in Africa

The Kingdom of Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, stands out as an 'emerging power' in Africa, thanks to outstanding performance and forward-looking choices, African Development Bank (AfDB) President Akinwumi Adesina said. In a statement to MAP, Adesina emphasized that Morocco, which is undergoing a strong transformative momentum as highlighted in the speech delivered by His Majesty the King on the occasion of the Throne Day, stands out for the consistency and coherence of its economic and social progress. Morocco's strategic positioning, he said, is rooted in a clear and ambitious vision supported by an integrated development strategy, economic, social, and environmental, grounded in stable governance and carefully considered policy choices. This methodical and determined approach, he added, has enabled the Kingdom to emerge as one of the most advanced nations on the African continent. 'As part of its New Development Model, the Kingdom has strengthened its economic fundamentals,' Adesina said, pointing to genuine sectoral diversification, a well-managed openness to global markets, and firm integration into regional and global value chains as signs of Morocco's economic emergence. The country's industrial revival, particularly in the automotive, aerospace, and renewable energy sectors, reflects this upward trajectory, bolstered by an ambitious infrastructure policy and solid macroeconomic environment, which enhance Morocco's appeal to international investors, he noted. 'Driven by the major development projects launched by His Majesty the King, our relations with the Kingdom continue to grow stronger, in order to support and accompany these multi-faceted advances for the benefit of the country and the Moroccan people,' Adesina concluded. Morocco and Senegal Further Industrial Partnership with Pan-African Vision

Rabat – Morocco and Senegal are strengthening their economic ties through a growing industrial partnership grounded in a Pan-African co-development vision. Bilateral trade between the two countries has expanded significantly, rising from $98.5 million in 2010 to $370 million in 2024, reflecting deepening cooperation based on mutual trust, solidarity, and economic complementarity. According to a recent interview with Senegal's government newspaper Le Soleil, Morocco's Minister of Industry and Commerce, Ryad Mezzour, emphasized this dynamic partnership and outlined three key priorities to further enhance collaboration: Transferring expertise in key sectors such as agribusiness and renewable energy. Sharing and optimizing port and logistics infrastructure. Establishing joint investment funds focused on regional small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Mezzour described Senegal as a 'pivotal partner' within Morocco's broader African industrial strategy, supported by ongoing bilateral technical programs. He also highlighted Morocco's robust economy, marked by a 55% increase in foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2024, driven by sector diversification, an attractive legal environment, and Morocco's role as a tri-continental connectivity hub. The minister further pointed to the rapid growth of Morocco's franchise sector, which includes 745 networks—84% international—with an average annual growth of 25% over 15 years and revenues of 20 billion dirhams. The government's 2025-2027 roadmap aims to boost exports, create jobs, and promote Moroccan brands internationally. 'Our ambition is to build shared prosperity with Africa,' Mezzour concluded. This interview featured in a special edition of Le Soleil commemorating Morocco's 26th Throne Day, showcasing Morocco's development model, industrial goals, and strong relations with African countries like Senegal. The edition also highlighted key growth sectors such as phosphates, manufacturing, franchising, and sports, with major projects in preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 and the FIFA World Cup 2030.
