I want to tell them clearly - after the 2026 elections, it is you whom we will send to the detention camps," the TMC national general secretary said, addressing the TMC's Martyrs' Day rally here. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Co-live Units Starting from 42L+ | Whitefield Sumadhura Learn More Undo Claiming that the BJP is a " Bangla-Birodhi party " (anti-Bengal party), Banerjee alleged that it has consistently targeted Bengalis for speaking their mother tongue. "Just because we speak Bengali, we are being targeted. Why doesn't the BJP take action against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his continuous attacks on the Bengali language? It shows their true colours," he asked. Live Events Banerjee said that if required, TMC MPs would speak in Bengali in Parliament in the ongoing session. "Let the BJP try to stop us. If needed, we will speak in Bengali inside Parliament during this session and see if they dare silence our voice," he said. "They won 77 seats last time. In 2026, we will bring them down and wipe them out electorally. From Diamond Harbour, I had predicted they would be reduced to under 50 seats, mark my words, it will happen," Banerjee said at the rally. The Diamond Harbour MP claimed that he does not go by predictions but by people's voices. "I don't make predictions. I analyse. I trust the people of Bengal and their sentiments. And this (central) government is torturing people," he alleged. Banerjee quipped, "Earlier they used to say 'Jai Shri Ram', now they are saying 'Jai Ma Durga', 'Jai Ma Kali'. Mark my words, in ten months, they will start saying 'Joy Bangla'." He credited Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for first branding the BJP as 'Bangla-Birodhi' (anti-Bengal). "This was not a political slogan, it is the truth for the BJP," he added.

Mamata Banerjee to hold Martyrs' Day rally, raise Bengali migrants' issue in BJP states ahead of 2026 Kolkata election
The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) will hold its annual Martyrs' Day rally in Kolkata today, July 21, with party supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expected to hit out at the BJP over the alleged harassment of Bengali-speaking migrant workers in the saffron party-ruled states. Lakhs of TMC supporters from across the state have already arrived in the city for the rally. Besides Banerjee, TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee will be the key speaker at the rally. The programme, held every year to commemorate the killing of 13 Youth Congress workers in a 1993 police firing, has grown into the party's largest political event. This year's rally holds significance as it is being seen as the launchpad for the TMC's campaign for the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections. Banerjee is likely to sharpen her Bengali pride pitch, accusing the BJP of linguistic profiling and 'criminalising poverty' in the name of national security. The BJP, meanwhile, had dismissed the allegations as political posturing, blaming the TMC government for the chaos over the documentation of migrant workers and infiltration. With political temperatures rising, all eyes will be on Banerjee's speech, which is expected to set the tone for the TMC's campaign for the 2026 state polls.

Interfaith marriage case: Muslim man marries Hindu woman; Haryana panchayat orders separation
ROHTAK: A panchayat held in Patuwas village in Haryana's Charkhi Dadri district on Sunday directed that an interfaith marriage couple be separated and declared a social boycott of the Muslim man's family across three villages. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The four-hour meeting, attended by residents of Patuwas, Mahraana, and Kheri Sanwal villages, was convened over tensions sparked by the marriage of Shahid, a Muslim man, and Preeti, a Hindu woman, both from the district. Village heads Kapoor Singh and Dharampal, who presided over the gathering, said Shahid would not be allowed to return. "His grandfather has agreed that Shahid will not come back to the village," said Dharampal. The panchayat further ruled out any social ties with Shahid's family. The village heads also stated that the couple would be separated. Dharampal said, 'The separation process is already under way.' The controversy erupted on July 3, when Shahid and Preeti were married through a nikah (Islamic marriage ceremony). Protests broke out on July 6 after villagers learned of the union, leading to the forced closure of shops owned by Muslims in the area. Efforts on to defuse tensions Police deployed personnel to Shahid's family home to maintain peace, and security remains in place. Efforts to defuse tensions have been ongoing, with local leaders working under village head Dharampal to mediate the issue. Both had signed affidavits agreeing to live separately and were released from a govt-run safe house to their families. However, dissatisfaction persisted among some village youth, prompting the Sunday's panchayat.
