Israeli interception missile lands in south Lebanon

An Israeli interception missile landed Wednesday afternoon in a valley between the Tyre district towns of Barish and Maaroub, the state-run National News Agency reported.
Israeli drones were meanwhile intensively overflying the Tyre district, NNA added.
Al-Manar television later reported that an Israeli drone fired two missiles at a house in Barish, causing no casualties.
Since Israel launched a barrage of strikes on Iran last week and Iran retaliated with missile and drone attacks against Israel, Lebanon and the neighboring countries have been in the flight path.
Downed missiles and drones have fallen in Syria, Lebanon and Iraq, damaging houses, causing fires and reportedly killing one woman in Syria.
In Lebanon, which is still reeling from last year's war with Israel, videos making the rounds on social media have shown revelers dancing and drinking on rooftops while projectiles flash across the sky in the background.

Lebanon peace deal with Israel needed, US envoy says

"President (Ahmad) al-Sharaa has indicated that he doesn't hate Israel... and that he wants peace on that border. I think that will also happen with Lebanon. It's a necessity to have an agreement with Israel," Tom Barrack said in an interview with Turkey's state news agency Anadolu. "What just happened between Israel and Iran is an opportunity for all of us to say: 'Time out. Let's create a new road' (and) Turkiye is key in that new road," Barrack told Anadolu. "The Middle East is ready to have a new dialogue, people are tired of the same old story," he said, saying it was essential for decades-long enmities to be reframed. Israel, he said, was "in the process of being redefined" and its regional neighbors needed to reach agreement with it. What is happening in Syria is "in big part due to Turkey" -- a key backer of the Islamist-led rebels who toppled Bashar al-Assad and now form the Damascus government -- and Turkey could play a central role in changing the regional narrative, he said. U.S. President Donald Trump and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan "see that this is an opportunity at a really interesting point in both of their lives where they can change the dialogue," he said. "And dialogue in the Middle East takes strong leadership." Barrack also said he believed there would be a ceasefire soon in the deadly Gaza war which would also speed up a shift in regional thinking. "We're going to see a ceasefire in Gaza in the near future, I think we have the right team on it," he told Anadolu. "Everybody is starting to move back towards the Abraham Accords, especially as the Gaza situation dissipates," he said referring to the U.S.-sponsored agreements struck by Israel to normalize ties with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Morocco. And he expressed confidence that Turkey and Israel -- whose relationship has been shattered by the Gaza war -- would resume their former ties. "It can happen again, it's not a religious issue, it's a misunderstanding of territorial desires. So having a discussion, a dialogue.. will take place."

During a press conference at the National Press Club in Yerevan, Sobhani said if it is confirmed that Israel used Azerbaijani soil to launch attacks against Iran during the recent war, then Tehran will consider this a serious violation and expects Baku to provide an official and transparent response. 'We do not confirm some of the information and reports published by certain sources in this regard… Once all aspects of the situation become clear, we will decide on our response,' the ambassador said according to Fars news agency, which is affiliated to the Revolutionary Guards. 'We have not permitted Iranian territory to be used for such purposes. If Azerbaijan has granted such permission, it must provide an explanation in accordance with international law,' the ambassador added. Sobhani said Iranian intelligence has received information indicating that a small number of Israeli drones crossed into Iran from neighboring countries. As a result, he said, Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian raised the issue in a phone call with his Azerbaijani counterparty, Ilham Aliyev, requesting a serious investigation. Sobhani indicated that Azerbaijan has assured Iran that it would not allow its territory to be used against it. However, he emphasized that Tehran needs to receive accurate information before responding. Two weeks ago, Israel launched a preemptive attack on Iran and the two sides have since exchanged strikes, with growing civilian casualties on both sides. Early last Sunday, the United States bombed three Iranian nuclear sites after more than a week of Israeli strikes on Tehran's military and nuclear facilities. In retaliation, Iran launched a missile attack on the Al-Udeid air base in Qatar. Last April, Pezeshkian visited Azerbaijan and agreed with Aliyev on a road map to strategic and comprehensive cooperation. Relations between the two countries have been tense for a long time because Azerbaijan in March 2023 opened an embassy in Israel. Azerbaijan also maintains close ties to Israel, which Tehran views as its top regional enemy. Iran has repeatedly opposed improving relations between Azerbaijan and Israel. In February 2023, Azerbaijan arrested seven people in the capital Baku and other regions in an operation against an Iranian 'spy network.' As part of their campaign, Azerbaijani forces also raided the offices of pro-Iranian news outlets SalamNews and InterAz. Despite pressure from other Muslim nations, Azerbaijani leadership maintained its strategic partnership with Israel. Iran views Israeli Azerbaijan relationship as a potential threat . Israel orders evacuations in northern Gaza as Trump calls for war to end
The Israeli military ordered Palestinians to evacuate areas in northern Gaza on Sunday before intensified fighting against Hamas, as U.S. President Donald Trump called for an end to the war amid renewed efforts to broker a ceasefire. "Make the deal in Gaza, get the hostages back," Trump posted on his Truth Social platform early on Sunday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was due to hold talks later in the day on the progress of Israel's offensive. A senior security official said the military will tell him the campaign is close to reaching its objectives, and warn that expanding fighting to new areas in Gaza may endanger the remaining Israeli hostages. But in a statement posted on X and text messages sent to many residents, the military urged people in northern parts of the enclave to head south towards the Al-Mawasi area in Khan Younis, which Israel designated as a humanitarian area. Palestinian and U.N. officials say nowhere in Gaza is safe. "The (Israeli) Defense Forces is operating with extreme force in these areas, and these military operations will escalate, intensify, and extend westward to the city center to destroy the capabilities of terrorist organizations," the military said. The evacuation order covered the Jabalia area and most Gaza City districts. Medics and residents said the Israeli army's bombardments escalated in the early hours in Jabalia, destroying several houses and killing at least six people. In Khan Younis in the south, five people were killed in an airstrike on a tent encampment near Mawasi, medics said. At least 12 other people were killed in separate Israeli military strikes and gunfire across the enclave, taking Sunday's death toll to at least 23, medics said. At Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, relatives arrived to pay their respects to white-shrouded bodies before they are buried. "A month ago, they (Israel) told us to go to Al-Mawasi (in Khan Younis) and we stayed there for a month, it is a safe zone," said Zeyad Abu Marouf. He said three of his children were killed and a fourth was wounded in the Israeli airstrike. "We ask God and the Arabs to move and end this occupation and the injustice taking place against us,' Abu Marouf told Reuters. NEW CEASEFIRE PUSH The military escalation comes as Arab mediators, Egypt and Qatar, backed by the United States, begin a new ceasefire effort to halt the 20-month-old conflict and secure the release of Israeli and foreign hostages still being held by Hamas. Interest in resolving the Gaza conflict has heightened following U.S. and Israeli bombings of Iran's nuclear facilities. There has also been rising concern over how aid is being distributed to Gazans in the ruined enclave. Hundreds of Palestinians have been killed over the past month in the vicinity of areas where food was being handed out, local hospitals and officials have said. A Hamas official told Reuters the group had informed the mediators it was ready to resume ceasefire talks, but reaffirmed the group's outstanding demands that any deal must end the war and secure an Israeli withdrawal from the coastal territory. Hamas has said it is willing to free remaining hostages in Gaza, 20 of whom are believed to still be alive, only in a deal that will end the war. Israel says it can only end the war if Hamas is disarmed and dismantled. Hamas refuses to lay down its arms. The war began after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, killing 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages, according to Israeli tallies. Israel's subsequent military assault has killed more than 56,000 Palestinians, according to the Gaza health ministry, displaced almost the entire 2.3 million population and plunged the enclave into a humanitarian crisis.
