‘My heart goes out' -Heartbreaking tributes pour as teenager, 13, who died in Cork racing event crash named locally
The popular school girl has been named locally as Lauren O'Brien of Knockane, Terelton.
She was driving a hatchback car in a competition at a private car racing track in Castletown Kennigh near Enniskean, in West
Lauren, who was a first year student in St Mary's Secondary School in Macroom in Co Cork, was
She was one of four competitors in the junior event which was held in conjunction with a big number of races on a sunny afternoon when tragedy struck around 3.30pm.
Other young people who were taking part in the heat in which Lauren died were deeply upset by what had occurred.

Large numbers of spectators also witnessed the accident including members of her family.
Racing got underway at 11am yesterday morning and was immediately suspended when the accident happened.

She said: 'My heart goes out to the family and friends of this young talented girl who sadly past away yesterday after an accident, racing at an event put on by Cork Autograss Racing Club. RIP.'
Kart Paddock, a social media page which posts karting and motor racing results, said that it would not be posting results 'out of respect to the young girl who died.'
They said: 'Thoughts and condolences are with the family, friends, teams and everyone in the Autograss Racing Club paddock.'
Cork Autograss Club was formed in 1998 from the West Cork Hotrod club. The club races from Castletown Kennnigh Track which is part of a community complex that includes a soccer pitch located inside the large racing track where night competitions are also held because the track is fully floodlit.
WITNESS APPEAL
Gardai have preserved the scene for a technical examination. The Coroner was notified of the death and an inquest will be held at a later date. A family liaison office will also be appointed to assist the family.
The West Cork Hotrod Club has raced at the Castletown Kennigh track for nearly three decades. A major track extension was carried out in 2010 in conjunction with Castletown Celtic football club whose pitch is the centre of the track.
Autograss Racing is motor racing on loose surface track with anything from near road spec 1000cc hatchbacks to full space framed saloons with engines varying from large v8's to twin bike powered and even the odd turbo diesel. The sport caters for competitors from the age of twelve upwards.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the incident. Anyone who may have camera footage and were attending the event between 3pm and 4pm yesterday are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

'Shortly after 7pm on Friday evening, police were made aware of two large groups of rival football supporters in the area attacking each other near the Lecky Road flyover with sticks, bats and iron bars and causing damage to buildings and cars parked in the area. "A teenage boy and a man aged in his 20s sustained injuries as a result of this incident and were taken to hospital for treatment. "Further disorder then occurred in the vicinity of the Brandywell stadium during and after a football match which was taking place. "Officers were in attendance and worked along with stadium staff to bring the disorder under control. No arrests have been made at this time.' Superintendent William Calderwood said: 'We believe that the disorder we witnessed on Friday evening was pre-arranged and we will be reviewing all available footage to identify those involved.' Speaking today, Mr Durkan condemned the trouble, saying 'thugs came to Derry masked and armed with an array of weapons.' He said: 'In terms of scale and the level of violence and danger to those in the vicinity, we haven't seen anything like this and I hope we never do again." Mr Durkan said he was late to the match due to an unrelated incident, and arrived to find the stadium 'in lockdown'. He said a bus-load of fans – separate to the organised Bohs travelling support – arrived in the city and caused problems, which continued after the full-time whistle when some locals retaliated. 'A bus-load of people - I wouldn't call them fans - came here intent on causing bother,' he said. 'I can't be certain it was an organised fight but there certainly seemed to be elements of choreography to their attack. 'The stewards at the Brandywell were under a lot of pressure. I was speaking to them in the second half and after the match, and they did their best in a very difficult situation. So too the police, who were liaising with the stewards and the security team at the Brandywell.' Mr Durkan described how he had to leave quickly after a group of visiting fans ran in his direction. 'So while I have pointed the finger, accurately I believe, at the people who came on the bus for starting the bother, the stuff afterwards was retaliatory.' The match was also briefly suspended after a flare was thrown from outside the ground onto the pitch. Local Sinn Fein MLA Padraig Delargy also condemned the trouble. He said many people in the area had felt frightened. Teenage driver killed after two-vehicle collision in Cork as road remains closed and Gardai issue urgent witness appeal
A man in his late teens has died following a two-vehicle collision in Cork early this morning. The fatal crash occurred on the N71 road between Ballinhassig and Innishannon, Co Cork at around 7.15am this morning. Advertisement The early morning collision involved a car and a truck. The teenage driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The road now remains closed to allow for a technical examination. Local diversions have been put in place.
