Not must for students to learn Hindi under NEP: RSS education wing
Vidya Bharati's national president Ravindra Kanhare on Friday said: 'Vidya Bharti is of the opinion that education should be in mother tongue. This is something that has been said in the 1968 policy (on education) and has been proposed in the NEP as well. No language is being foisted upon any state. It has been said that children should read their language, one national language and any foreign language. If someone is from Tamil Nadu, they can learn Tamil or one from Kerala can learn Malayalam. It is not necessary for them to learn Hindi. The NEP draft had been sent to all states.'
Kanhare was speaking at Vidya Bharati's annual press conference at Constitution Club. On the issue of rising school fees in private schools in metropolitan cities, he said 'if parents create pressure, fees can be redetermined'. He also said that parents must judge whether their children are getting quality education to justify the fees they pay.
'To determine the school fees is the job of state governments. In states there is generally a system where if the fees are to be increased, it would be done through a committee under the district magistrate. If the fees are to be increased by more, a state-level committee looks into it. Parents must see whether the schools are providing the kind of quality education that such fees must afford. If the parents create pressure, the fees can be redetermined,' Kanhare said.
The statement comes in the backdrop of the growing concern over arbitrary hike in fees by private schools in metropolitan cities. The Delhi Public School in the Capital's Dwarka has been chided by the High Court as having become a 'money making machine' which treats students like 'chattel'.
Answering a question on NCERT removing the mention of the Babri mosque from Class 12 textbooks, Kanhare said, 'To bring changes in the curriculum is NCERT's job. We must stick to historical facts in books. We have seen in all these years that misleading information has been provided in some books. If they have been removed now then there is nothing wrong with that.'
Talking about Vidya Bharti's success stories in the past one year, Kanhare said while over 93% of students of its schools succeeded in Class 12th with more than 2,500 students scoring above 90%, as many as 27 of its alumni cleared the UPSC this year.

Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor waded into the political controversy surrounding the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar on Wednesday when he described the mammoth exercise as a "BJP conspiracy". Kishor made the remark in Kishanganj, the state's lone district with a Muslim majority population, and promised that his fledgling party would help those whose names get wrongfully deleted from the voters' list. Talking to reporters, he said, "The SIR is a BJP conspiracy. The Supreme Court has made it clear that Election Commission cannot determine people's citizenship. Does the Election Commission, by carrying out such an exercise now, intend to say that the electoral roll of 2014, when Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, was fake?". He added, "The same electoral roll was fine till last year's Lok Sabha polls. We fail to see a problem in conducting the upcoming assembly polls on the basis of the same voters' list." "Obviously, the BJP is jittery in Bihar realising that the people here now have a new alternative in Jan Suraaj Party. So they are trying to wrongfully delete the names of voters. I would ask all people who face such wrongful deletions to contact our party. We will extend all possible help", said the former political strategist. Kishor, whose nine-month-old party is aiming to make a big dent in the state's Muslim vote base, also trained his guns at the RJD, which has so far been the first party of choice for the minority community. "The RJD has treated Muslims as nothing more than the kerosene that could serve to keep the lantern bright. But the community has now had enough," said the Jan Suraaj Party founder, in an obvious reference to the main opposition party's poll symbol. Replying to a query, he said he saw "no role" in Bihar for the AIMIM headed by Asaduddin Owaisi, which had won a few seats in the 2020 assembly polls and has expressed the desire to contest the upcoming elections as part of the INDIA bloc. "Bihar does not need to import leaders from Hyderabad," asserted Kishor, whose own party has decided to go it alone in the polls. The IPAC founder, who has in his previous avatar handled election campaigns of several political parties across the ideological divide, was also asked about the Hindi versus Marathi row that has erupted in Maharashtra. Blaming the controversy on "Thackeray brothers", son and nephew of late Bal Thackeray, Uddhav and Raj, respectively, Kishor said, "these people are lumpen elements. But the Congress and the BJP too have their share of the blame as these national parties have no qualms in tying up with such divisive forces." He also alleged that Bihar BJP president Dilip Jaiswal has indulged in corruption and favouritism in his capacity as one of the trustees of Kishanganj-based MGM Medical College and challenged the latter, a sitting MLC and former state minister, to initiate legal action "if what I am saying is wrong".

Several workers of Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) were on Wednesday detained by police for creating a ruckus at a private bank in Nagpur following a row over the usage of the Marathi of MNS workers had gathered outside the bank branch and also had a verbal spat with bank officials after they sought the Hindi translation of an FIR registered in Marathi for the purpose of settling an accident to information, a young man named Yogesh Bopche recently died in a road accident, following which his family reached the bank seeking an insurance claim. However, bank officials asked the victim's family to bring a Hindi translation of an FIR copy originally written in Marathi. Irked with this, the family reached out to local MNS leaders who reached the bank along with hundreds of workers to protest and created a bank officials told India Today that since the headquarters of the insurance company is in Kolkata, where no one understands Marathi.
