Hugh Grant falls asleep at Wimbledon behind the Queen

Perth Now12 hours ago
British comedy actor Hugh Grant proved there wasn't enough drama at Wimbledon to keep him entertained on Wednesday, dozing off as arguably the greatest tennis player of all time went about his work.
The Love Actually star appeared slumped back in his chair, masked by large sunglasses, and enjoying some shut-eye as Italy's Flavio Cobolli took the advantage against Novak Djokovic in the first set tiebreaker of their quarter-final on Centre Court.
While Wimbledon is revered among tennis tragics for its age-old traditions and strict dress code, Grant's less than proper act at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club was spotlighted due to his proximity to Queen Camilla.
The Queen was attending in the royal box with her sister Annabel Elliot, who sat one row ahead of Grant.
Attending alongside his wife, TV producer Anna Elisabet Eberstein, the mother of Grant's three children initially proved little assistance to the typically animated star.
Unsurprisingly, social media users have enjoyed poking the finger at Grant who would want his time again.
'Absolutely unbelievable!!! Gets a freebie ticket to Wimbledon and has a nap!!' one person said.
'Don't blame him. Tennis is a borefest!!!!' another wrote. Hugh Grant falls asleep at Wimbledon while watching Novak Djokovic. Credit: Supplied
Others suggested the manner in which Grant had fallen asleep appeared within the star's gentlemanly character.
'And doing it most charmingly,' one person wrote.
'He's not asleep, he's just resting his eyes,' another chimed in.
The 64-year-old was earlier seen engaged in the women's Centre Court match between Mirra Andreeva and Belinda Bencic.
The tournament TikTok page even riffed off an iconic line from his 1999 film Notting Hill.
'She's just a girl, playing tennis in front of a boy,' the page wrote, alongside a clip of Grant and his wife sharing a private joke and applauding the action.
The Heretic star has been one of many celebrities to attend the English grand slam, including acting couple Andrew Garfield and Monica Barbaro, singer Olivia Rodrigo, and Olympic diver Tom Daley.

AJ McLean has 'constant reminder' of Liam Payne

AJ McLean has a "constant reminder" of Liam Payne on his phone. The Backstreet Boys singer grew close to the late One Direction star - who died in October aged 31 after falling from his hotel balcony - when shooting Netflix series Building the Band, and he has kept a recording of their final conversation because he felt the chat perfectly reflected the kind and funny person he knew Liam to be. AJ - who hosts Building the Band - told People magazine: "I've not deleted it. I've kept it on my phone as a constant reminder of who he was. He was a very positive, uplifting person. "He had a real quick wit about him. I don't know if it was the British humour or just him as a person. I think that was one of the things that him and I really, really gelled immediately with. "Both of us were sarcastic and fun and funny, and always making jokes and pranks and just having fun with everybody on set. "But also as an artist, he was extremely talented. Not only as a singer-performer, but as a songwriter-producer, and he truly did light up the room when he'd walk on set." AJ, 47, had known Liam for a long time but they got particularly close while the Strip That Down singer was filming his stint as a guest judge on Building the Band. AJ said: "We've known each other over the years since One D started, but this was probably the most lengthy time that we've ever really been in the same room talking about everything from music to sobriety to life." The I'll Never Break Your Heart singer got the chance to hear Liam's final music, and he hopes the record gets released one day because he thinks fans will love it. He said: "He hit me up when we had a few days off from shooting and sent me what would've been his most recent solo album, just to ask my opinion on the music... And I thought it was an insane body of work. It was so good. I hope somewhere down the road, somehow people get to hear it, especially all the One D fans."

Kmart releases $29 mini digital camera keychain

Don't miss out on the headlines from Real Life. Followed categories will be added to My News. Budget retail giant Kmart has sparked a frenzy with the release of a $29 keychain, with the item selling out online just days after the brand shared it to social media. The retail store shared a clip to TikTok of the keychain showing it also doubled as a mini digital camera that came with a charging cable and memory card. Kmart's video showed a woman attaching the item to her car keys, before turning it on and taking happy snaps with a friend. 'Say hello to Kmart's $29 mini digital camera,' the promo video states. Social media users promptly lost their minds over the reveal that it was not only a cute accessory but a functional piece of technology. '30 dollars is wild,' one social media user commented. Another added: 'I don't need it, I don't need it, I don't need, I don't need, but I'm afraid I might have to get it.' 'I ran to Kmart today and got four of them. Originally went to get for the three kids … had to get myself one. They are so freaking worth it,' another said. One social media user commented: 'The quality on it is actually really good.' 'This is soooo cuteeeee I want oneeeeee,' another said. One commented: 'Now why would you ever want this.' 'Other than for kids who don't have phones … why? We have cameras with us every day,' one said. 'Saw on TikTok. Immediately left TikTok and went to the Kmart website. Ordered. Paid. Impatiently waiting for order to arrive even though I literally ordered seconds ago,' another commented. Since the video was shared, it has sold out online and many said they couldn't find it in stores. Kmart took to social media once again to calm shoppers, writing: 'Rest assure more stock will arrive soon.' ️ Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the brand commented on its popularity. 'Kmart is delighted to see our Mini Digital Camera resonate so strongly with customers and gain viral attention,' a Kmart spokesperson told 'Its popularity reflects a growing appreciation for products that blend nostalgic appeal with practical, everyday functionality. At just $29, this compact and easy-to-use camera is perfect for capturing spontaneous moments, whether at home, travelling, or on the move. Best of all, it comes as a complete pack with a charging cable and memory card included. 'The resurgence of retro-inspired tech speaks to a desire for simplicity, sentimentality and self-expression. At Kmart, we're proud to offer thoughtfully designed products that spark joy and create meaningful connections with our community.' Kmart has released a $29 keychain. Picture: TikTok/Kmart It's not the first time that the budget retailer released a piece of tech with a Y2K feel that caught the attention of shoppers. In March, it dropped a $39 Digital Video Recorder and it promptly went viral on TikTok. The compact camera featured a two-inch LCD screen, offers up to 16x digital zoom, and records in 720p HD — perfect for creating home movies reminiscent of the 90s and early 2000s. It also included an SD card, which you can insert into your laptop to transfer the files. 'The Y2K aesthetic is back, and so is the love for digital cameras and camcorders,' a Kmart spokesperson told 'The Digital Video Recorder brings retro charm with a modern twist — perfect for snapping candid moments and recording memories in a fun, nostalgic way without breaking the bank. 'We know Kmart customers love a good throwback, and these products have made it easy to join the trend. These budget-friendly gadgets offer a simple, no-fuss way to capture life's everyday adventures.' That doubles as a digital camera. Picture: TikTok/Kmart 'Kmart just released little handy cams,' said influencer @cocodevile. 'I'm going see if I can find it before anyone else gets it cause I know they're going be very popular'. Once they found the item, they took it home and gave it a whirl, claiming 'the quality is very bad' but 'I like that'. It's the grainy, low-resolution footage that brought back a wave of childhood memories for Coco and their followers. 'The quality is so Y2K,' one person commented, while another noted: 'I feel like this would be cool if you want to film your life like it's the 80s/90s. Nostalgic aesthetic. Pretty cool for the price'. Another declared that they wanted to have the digital video recorders on tables at their wedding for guests to film candid content. The hype has already influenced many, with one stating, 'I bought one last night,' and another saying: 'Excellent review, I have been influenced and will be buying for the nostalgia, thank you'. Hugh Grant falls asleep inside royal box near Queen Camilla during Wimbledon appearance

Hugh Grant may have blown his chances of ever returning to the royal box at Wimbledon after appearing to fall asleep in his chair just inches away from Queen Camilla. The oak-lined royal box was established in 1922 and has played host to a glittering array of royals, celebrities and dignitaries in its century-long history. But the exclusive box, which seats around 80 people, also comes with rules, including a strict dress code enforced by the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. Entry to the section at the south end of Centre Court is by invitation only, with the Chair of the All England Club officially in charge of seating assignments in the box. Nevertheless, the royal family is understood to hold significant sway about who makes the cut, especially on days when senior royals are planning to attend matches. On Wednesday, Camilla made her first appearance at the 2025 Grand Slam and watched on as Serbia's Novak Djokovic defeated Italy's Flavio Cobolli in the quarterfinal. The Queen was seated next to All England Lawn Tennis Club Chair Deborah Jevans during the appearance, while Bridget Jones star Hugh Grant and his wife Anna sat in the row behind. At one point, Grant appeared to doze off behind his sunglasses and slumped to one side in his chair. Meanwhile, on court Djokovic made history as the second man in the Open era to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals aged 38 or older. The first player to achieve this feat was Aussie great Ken Rosewall, who made it all the way to the final at the All England club aged 39 in 1974. Grant's naptime comes as the legendary grass tournament prepares to wrap up on the weekend after a fortnight of vintage tennis and a myriad of royal appearances. This year, the likes of Princess Beatrice, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, the Duchess of Edinburgh, the Duchess of York and the Duchess of Gloucester have all graced the royal box. Princess Catherine, who serves as patron for the tennis club, is also widely tipped to hand over the winner's trophies as usual this weekend as she steadily returns to royal duties.
