Officers were also directed to act firmly against public drinking and unnecessary night-time loitering.
The operation involved DSP Janardhan Rao, CIs Ramesh, Ramulu and other officials.

Police arrest five accused in assault case in Dharmavaram
Five accused, facing allegations of illegal money-lending operations, were arrested for assaulting a couple over unpaid high-interest loans in Dharmavaram town of Sri Sathya Sai district on Thursday. Addressing a press conference here, Superintendent of Police V. Ratna said the accused barged into the house of a couple — Bharathi and Ramana — at Shantinagar locality of the town on the night of July 23, and assaulted the couple and their son, besides extorting ₹7000. When the neighbours objected to their unruly behaviour, the accused fled the scene. Taking a complaint from the victims, the Dharmavaram urban police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita. An investigation was launched under the supervision of Deputy SP Narasingappa. The arrested were identified as Mahesh, Vinod Kumar, Hemanth Kumar, Govardhan, and Manohar (in the age group of 22-28), hailing from Dharmavaram and surrounding villages. Two others, Raja and Vijay, were still at large, and a special team was formed to track them. Raja is in the police records as a rowdy-sheeter, the SP said. Mr. Ratna said that a special police party tracked the movements of the accused with the help of mobile surveillance and technical analysis. All five were sent for remand. The SP warned that criminal action, including the PD Act, would be taken against the repeat offenders. She informed the public to report any illegal moneylending activity in their areas, and their identities would be kept confidential.

Police officials asked to curb drug menace
Kurnool Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Koya Praveen asked the police officials to curb the drug menace in the district. Mr. Praveen, along with Kurnool Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikrant Patel released the 'Drugs Vaddu Bro' poster and attended the half-yearly crime review meeting, here on Thursday. Addressing the police officials, the DIG said that Kurnool has remained peaceful post-bifurcation of the district. He asked the police officials to counsel the people in village to leave out old rivalries so that the district remains peaceful. The DIG asked officials to give priority to visible policing and also to intensify surveillance through drone cameras to keep a tab on alcohol consumption in open places and other law and order problems. Meanwhile, Mr. Vikrant Patel asked the officials to use technology to prevent crime and invoke PD Act, bind over anti-social elements and counsel rowdy-sheeters wherever and whenever necessary. The SP also wanted immediate recovery of stolen properties and the conduct of trial in cases pending in courts. While releasing the posters, the DIG and SP gave a call to the general public to inform about illegal transportation, sale or consumption of drugs to tollfree number 1972.

Govt will act tough to curb subsidised PDS rice smuggling: Andhra Minister Nadendla
VIJAYAWADA: Food and Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar on Wednesday reaffirmed that the State government supports legal rice exports but will crack down on smuggling of subsidised Public Distribution System (PDS) rice. Chairing a high-level review meeting with Joint Collectors of Kakinada, Visakhapatnam, and Nellore, and Civil Supplies and Vigilance officials at the State Secretariat, the minister stressed strict enforcement around port areas. He directed that round-the-clock check posts be set up at Kakinada, Visakhapatnam, and Krishnapatnam ports, with additional posts as needed. 'Exporters are welcome to operate legally, but smuggling PDS rice under the guise of exports will be dealt with severely,' he warned. Manohar urged officials to enhance surveillance on highways and potential smuggling routes. While PDS rice control at Kakinada port has improved, the minister called for tighter monitoring at Visakhapatnam and Nellore ports. He instructed that smuggling cases be registered under the Essential Commodities Act, the PD Act, and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Data presented showed 85 smuggling cases in Kakinada, 92 in Visakhapatnam, and 62 in Nellore. Vigilance officers were told to intensify inspections and block diversion of rice meant for the poor.
