Moments later, Sharma allegedly confronted him again. 'He just got up, put his forehead on mine like he was challenging me, and then grabbed me by the throat and started choking me,' Evans recalled. 'At that moment, it was fight or flight... all I could do was defend myself.'The scuffle left Sharma with a cut above his left eyebrow, while Evans had scratches on his face. Witnesses said Sharma returned to his seat grinning and took selfies of his bloodied face before being escorted off the plane in handcuffs.According to The Daily Mail, Sharma was first taken to Jackson West Hospital for treatment and then booked into custody. During his court appearance on Tuesday, his attorney Renee Gordon claimed the incident began because Sharma was meditating. 'My client is from a religion where he was meditating,' Gordon said. 'Unfortunately, the passenger behind him did not like that.'The judge, however, was not convinced. Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Gerald Hubbart set Sharma's bond at $500 and issued a stay-away order, barring him from contacting Evans or going near his school or workplace.'I don't want people to get the wrong idea about who I am,' Evans told 7News. 'I'm a good person. I recently got baptised. I just wish I had been more firm in asking to be moved away from him.'Frontier Airlines has yet to respond publicly to the incident.- Ends

Indian man gets life imprisonment in UK for child rape, attempted rape
A 24-year old Indian man has been sentenced life imprisonment after an investigation into attempted rape and rape of a child in London. The man, Navroop Singh, was jailed following a police investigation that Scotland Yard called "significant". Singh was sentenced with a minimum term of 14 years for five charges including of rape at Isleworth Crown Court. Talking about the incident, Acting Chief Superintendent Sean Lynch applauded the courage of the victims and their families for their unwavering bravery and strength in reporting incident. He also said, 'Today's conviction is testament to the officers' thorough investigation, which has identified a violent sexual offender and undoubtedly prevented further harm.' Sean Lynch along with his team launched an investigation and tracked down Singh using forensics, CCTV records and witness statements to build evidence against him. The victim approached the police who by chance were off duty new the gates of Southall Park in Ealing, west London. The police officers then accompanied her to the nearest station. Navroop Singh was sitting on a park bench that day during the early hours, waiting for a potential victim. He used an imitation firearm, assembled by him, to threaten the victim while he attempted to rape her. After the report was filed, officers went through hours of CCTV footage and tried to identify the offender. While the investigations were still going, a child was raped at a different park which led the police to realise a link between the two offenses. 'Using the increased resources which were made available, officers secured additional forensic evidence and traced the offender to within a few doors of his home address where they delivered leaflets to appeal for witnesses and carried out increased patrols of the area,' the Met Police said. The Met Police also said that for them, tacking violence against women and girls are a priority and they are working relentlessly to pursue the city's most dangerous predators who often commit other crimes. Legal blow to Saif Ali Khan as HC reopens Rs 15K-cr ancestral property case
In a setback to actor Saif Ali Khan and his family, who inherited Rs 15,000 crore properties owned by Bhopal's erstwhile rulers, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has set aside the trial court's verdict given over two decades ago, and ordered a retrial in the case. In its order passed on June 30, the single bench of high court of Justice Sanjay Dwivedi set aside the judgment and decree of the trial court which upheld Pataudis (Saif Ali Khan, his mother Sharmila Tagore and his two sisters Soha and Saba) to be the owners of the properties. It also directed the trial court to make all possible efforts to conclude and decide the matter within one year. Nawab Hamidullah was the last ruling Nawab of the princely state of Bhopal. He and his wife Maimoona Sultan had three daughters - Abida, Sajida and Rabia. Sajida married Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi and became the Nawab Begum of Bhopal. Their son, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, former Indian cricket team skipper married Sharmila Tagore. After Nawab Hamidullah's eldest daughter Abida migrated to Pakistan, Sajida became the owner of the properties. Later, her son Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi (Tiger Pataudi, who married Sharmila Tagore) became the successor of these properties estimated to be valued at nearly Rs 15,000 crore, which were inherited by Saif Ali and his siblings. The two appeals, one filed by Begum Suraiya Rashid and others, and another by Nawab Mehr Taj Sajida Sultan and others, all heirs of late Nawab Mohammad Hamidullah Khan, said the trial court had dismissed their suits against what they called as unfair partition of royal property. In their pleas, they stated that the Bhopal district court's judgement and decree dated February 14, 2000 dismissed their suits unfairly. Their lawyers pleaded that the partition of his (Nawab's) personal property should have been done between them and defendants Saif Ali, Sharmila and 16 other heirs as per the Muslim Personal Law. The appellants opposed the defendants (Pataudis) for citing the certificate issued by the Government of India on January 10, 1962 in favour of Sajida Begum as the sole successor of all the private properties. Justice Dwivedi said, "The matters are remanded back to the trial court for deciding it afresh." "And if so required, the trial court can allow the parties to lead further evidence in view of the subsequent development and changed legal position," the court ordered. "I am of the opinion that the trial court, without considering other aspects of the matter, had dismissed the suits, that too relying upon the judgment which has already been overruled by the Supreme Court. Thus, in my opinion, the impugned judgment and decree deserve to be and are hereby set aside," the judge said. "It is made clear that since the suits were initially filed in 1999, therefore, the trial court shall make all possible efforts to conclude and decide it expeditiously, preferably within a period of one year," it said. On April 30, 1949, Bhopal Riyasat (princely state of Bhopal) was merged in the Union of India under an agreement in writing, the order read. "The agreement contained a clause revealing that after the merger, all the special rights which the Nawab (Ruler) had, shall remain continued and according to the agreement, it was agreed that all the property which is their personal property, shall be of their absolute ownership and succession of the Gaddi (throne) shall be under the Bhopal Succession to the Throne Act, 1947," it added.

Nirav Modi's brother Nehal held in US on CBI, ED extradition requests; Justice Dept to oppose bail
Nehal, a Belgian national, has been named as an accused in charge sheets filed by both CBI and ED in the bank loan fraud, amounting to an excess of Rs 13,000 crore, which was borrowed fraudulently from the Punjab National Bank. His elder brother Nirav Modi and uncle Mehul Choksi have been named as the prime accused in the case. The Indian agencies have been informed by their American counterparts about the arrest, as well as given assurances from the US Justice Department that his bail plea will be opposed during the next date of hearing in the extradition proceedings. The next hearing is scheduled for 7 July, sources privy to the developments told ThePrint. New Delhi: Authorities in the United States Friday arrested Nehal Modi, brother and alleged co-conspirator of fugitive diamond businessman Nirav Modi, on the request for extradition submitted by India's agencies, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which have been probing the 2018 PNB loan fraud case. Notably, Nirav Modi has been in custody in the United Kingdom since March 2019, on account of pending extradition proceedings, while Mehul Choksi was detained by authorities in Belgium, where his extradition is also pending. Indian agencies managed to obtain a Red Corner Notice against Nehal in July 2019, based on which Interpol requested all its 192 member states to arrest or detain him upon spotting him in their countries, after which extradition or deportation proceedings could begin. In its charge sheet, the CBI has alleged that Nehal Modi attended a meeting with senior managers of the Punjab National Bank on 26 January, 2018, days before the CBI booked Nirav Modi, his family, Choksi, and retired deputy manager of the bank Gokulnath Shetty. Additionally, the agency found in the probe, through statements from individuals associated with Modis' firms, that after the registration of the CBI's case, Nehal Modi took overall control of the various companies' affairs. In the probe, agencies also allegedly found that Nehal Modi directed and facilitated the movement of funds and dummy directors of the firms of Nirav Modi from Dubai to Cairo, in an attempt to avoid arrest or criminal proceedings. He also allegedly instructed those directors to make false statements in the event of arrest by agencies, including claiming that they did not work for Nirav Modi. The ED also highlighted that Nehal allegedly took around 50 kg of gold and AED 3.5 million from a Dubai-based firm, Firestar Diamond FZE, as well as 150 boxes of pearls worth USD 6 million from Hong Kong, following investigations in India. Additionally, the agency alleged he was personally overseeing attempts to erase accounts and records that established the money trail of firms established by his brother, Nirav Modi, and his associates. 'He intimidated witnesses and sent them to Cairo, where their passports were taken over, and they were forced to sign some false papers. He offered a witness Rs 20 lakh for tendering false testimony before the judicial authorities of Europe,' the agency has alleged.
