Ashley Madison's June 2025 data shows Kanchipuram leading in signups. Nine Delhi-NCR locations are in the top 20. Check full list
Ashley Madison, the global dating platform marketed primarily for individuals seeking extramarital relationships, released new user data for June 2025 that placed India among its fastest-growing markets owing to increase in signups in smaller cities and towns.
According to the platform's latest figures, Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu recorded the highest rate of signups across India, surpassing cities like Delhi and Mumbai. The town has seen a dramatic spike in activity on the site as in 2024, it ranked 17th. Ashley Madison did not offer an explanation for the town's sharp rise but Kanchipuram's position in the list reflects a growing footprint for the app in tier-2 and tier-3 cities as some metro areas fall behind.
Where Do Metro Cities Stand In The List?
The newly released list of the top 20 Indian districts by Ashley Madison signups includes nine locations from the Delhi-NCR region, including six Delhi districts- Central Delhi (ranked second), South West Delhi, East Delhi, South Delhi, West Delhi and North West Delhi- as well as neighbouring cities Gurgaon, Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida).
In contrast, Mumbai did not make it to the top 20 while cities such as Jaipur, Raigarh, Kamrup and Chandigarh featured prominently. Ghaziabad and Jaipur, both tier-2 cities, outpaced many urban hubs in signups and activity, the list showed. The platform said the rankings were based not only on new user signups but also on activity intensity and engagement data that signal trends in infidelity and non-monogamy.
In April, Ashley Madison shared results from a YouGov survey, which revealed that India and Brazil reported the highest rates of admitted infidelity among adults. According to the survey, 53 percent of Indian respondents admitted to having had an affair.
Paul Keable, Chief Strategy Officer at Ashley Madison, said, 'This data highlights a striking trend- India is leading the way in redefining modern relationships with more than half of surveyed adults admitting to infidelity. India is already ranked sixth among our global markets and we anticipate it climbing even higher by the end of the year. These numbers suggest the growing acceptance of non-monogamy."

Sebi shares info on Jane Street's high-frequency trading case with US SEC

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has shared details of its investigation into high-frequency trading (HFT) firm Jane Street with its United States (US) counterpart, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), The Economic Times reported on Wednesday. The development comes after the SEC sought details of the matter, the report added, citing sources. The probe involves allegations of manipulation in the Indian derivatives market. A market law expert told the publication that both Sebi and the SEC are a part of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), a group of national securities regulators. Hence, they are obliged to share information if any of their counterpart seeks it. What's the case? Earlier this month, Sebi had temporarily barred Jane Street from accessing Indian markets, accusing the firm of manipulating the popular Bank Nifty index. According to the regulator, Jane Street placed disproportionately large orders at increasingly higher prices to influence index levels, while simultaneously positioning itself in index options to benefit from it. Sebi stated that between January 2023 and March 2025, Jane Street reported a net gain of ₹36,671 crore in Indian markets. It added that the firm earned ₹44,358 crore through options trading, while incurring losses in stock futures (₹7,208 crore), index futures (₹191 crore), and cash market trades (₹288 crore). Not all of these gains were declared illegal. The ban was imposed until the US firm returned the alleged unlawful gains of ₹4,840 crore. In response to Sebi's directive, Jane Street deposited ₹4,843.57 crore into an escrow account and assured full compliance with regulatory orders. An escrow account is an account where funds are held in trust while two or more parties complete a transaction. Following this, Sebi permitted Jane Street to continue trading in Indian markets, signaling a conditional resolution as the investigation continues.
