13% dip in cybercrime in Telangana, says TGCSB chief
She was speaking at a special capacity enhancement session organised by TGCSB for its cyber warriors and officers. Highlighting the state's cybercrime mitigation efforts, Goel revealed that of the Rs 726 crore lost to cybercrime this year, Rs 105 crore was successfully frozen and Rs 102 crore refunded to victims.
Additionally, 1,957 SIM cards, 7,178 device IMEIs, and 565 URLs have been blocked to disrupt fraudulent networks. The interactive event aimed to sharpen the skills of personnel and introduce them to the latest tools and strategies in cybercrime investigation and digital forensics.
During the session, 25 cyber warriors from across the state and 15 officials from TGCSB headquarters and Cybercrime police stations were felicitated for their outstanding contributions in key cybercrime verticals. These included prompt petition disposal through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP), issuance of refund orders, community awareness programmes, execution of PT warrants, and effective follow-up on status calls.
The TGCSB has also conducted targeted cyber awareness campaigns statewide, reinforcing its commitment to building a secure digital ecosystem.

Railways to set up facial recognition cameras at Secunderabad station to track criminals
Hyderabad: Secunderabad railway station, one of India's largest, is set to enhance its security infrastructure through the implementation of a facial recognition system. The initiative is part of Indian Railways' efforts across seven major stations nationwide. The surveillance system will automatically notify the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) when a known offender enters the station premises, with these cameras continuously monitoring their movements. An alarm will sound in the control room as soon as an offender sets foot in the railway premises. 'Under the Nirbhaya funds, these surveillance cameras costing Rs 4.5 crore shall be positioned at every entry and exit point of Secunderabad station. The Research Designs & Standards Organisation has initiated trial operations and system evaluations. The station requires the installation of around 10 such cameras. Previously, while the city police installed similar cameras, they were removed during station redevelopment activities," said a senior official in SCR. According to officials, this advanced surveillance initiative aims to enhance security across railway stations. The system will analyse facial features and match them with the database of previous offenders. When a match occurs, the control room staff will receive instant notifications and can track the person's movements in real-time through networked cameras. The database will include comprehensive details such as physical descriptions, past criminal records, and patterns of offences. This digital tracking system will particularly focus on pickpockets, luggage thieves, and chain snatchers who frequently target railway passengers. Over the past 18 months, railway stations and trains in SCR jurisdiction documented around 600 theft cases. The facial recognition system will also be deployed at Mumbai, New Delhi, Howrah, Sealdah, Patna, and Chennai railway stations.

Marijuana worth Rs 10cr seized at city airport
1 2 Bhubaneswar: Sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Saturday seized 8kg of marijuana worth Rs 10 crore from a passenger who arrived from Bangkok at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here. The passenger, a native of Gujarat's Tapi district, was arrested. With this seizure, smuggling of marijuana worth Rs 40 crore was thwarted by the DRI at BPIA within four days. On July 29, three persons were arrested on charges of possessing 25kg of marijuana. "The four arrested passengers were booked under sections 23(c), 43 and 8(c) of the NDPS Act. All four are believed to be carriers and not traders. Their main handlers are yet to be traced," a senior DRI officer said on the condition of anonymity. The marijuana recovered on Saturday was packed in biscuit and chocolate packets to hoodwink the enforcement agencies, but DRI sleuths managed to trace it due to its strong network of human and technical surveillance. DRI officers said moments after the flight took off from Bangkok, they received information regarding a man carrying contraband. "We deployed our personnel accordingly. Man kept in digital arrest for 2 hrs, 11.5L gone in minutes
Lucknow: In another case of digital arrest, a man in Lucknow's Thakurganj lost Rs 11.5 lakh after a fraudster posed as a Mumbai Narcotics Control Bureau officer. The scammer accused Syed Haider Irfan of money laundering and coerced him into transferring the money, claiming it was part of a high-profile investigation. According to the FIR lodged on court orders, Irfan received a suspicious call on June 4 from someone claiming to be Shivam Pathak of DHL Courier Services. The caller claimed that Irfan's Aadhaar and PAN card had been misused to send a suspicious parcel to Iran and had been intercepted by customs. The caller then claimed that the matter had been forwarded to the Mumbai Narcotics Department. Moments later, Irfan received a video call from someone claiming to be a DHL courier guy named Shivam Pathak, who claimed his Aadhaar and PAN card had been used to send some suspicious parcel to Iran, and customs had seized it. He said, "We are sending this to the Mumbai Narcotics Department now." The fraudster, under the guise of questioning, kept Irfan digitally confined for two hours, during which he extracted sensitive details like PAN, Aadhaar, and bank information. Using these, the accused allegedly secured a pre-approved personal loan of Rs 5.80 lakh in Irfan's name and also siphoned off Rs 5.67 lakh directly from his account.
