Why Fans Don't Think Billie Piper Is The New Doctor
After weeks of speculation about whether Ncuti Gatwa 's time as The Doctor was coming to an end in the not-too-distant future, the most recent finale saw his character regenerating, after two seasons at the helm of the Tardis.
What few could have foreseen would be that his character would regenerate into what appears to be a new incarnation of The Doctor, played by Billie Piper.

Billie, of course, already has a long history with Doctor Who, starring in the role of Rose Tyler when the reboot first began airing 20 years ago.
The Olivier winner's unexpected appearance led to a wide array of pretty much every reaction possible on social media, and a slew of headlines hailing her arrival as The Sixteenth Doctor.
However, other fans are not convinced it's as simple as that.
At the end of the first season of the Doctor Who revival, Rose ended up absorbing the heart of Tardis, becoming a new omniscient entity known as 'Bad Wolf'.
Billie most recently appeared in Doctor Who for its 50th anniversary special, this time playing a different being altogether, known as 'The Moment'.
So, given the fact that Billie has repeatedly popped up in the long-running sci-fi saga as a variety of different entities – not everyone in the Whovian fandom believes that her latest appearance necessarily means she's the new Doctor.
Tellingly, her appearance in the final credits says simply 'introducing Billie Piper' rather than 'introducing Billie Piper as The Doctor', which is traditionally the terminology used when ushering in a new incarnation of the Time Lord…
I didn't see one of these yesterday with everyone from Modern Who so I made one myself. But, there's something missing on the last one… #DoctorWho #doctorwhospoilers #DoctorWhofinale #TheRealityWar #ncutigatwa #billiepiper #jodieWhittaker pic.twitter.com/DbbCb24IIL

The fact that this does not have the words 'as the Doctor' is going to fuel a gazillion over-monetised clickbait YouTube takes between now and the start of the next series. #DoctorWho pic.twitter.com/mC7YrQK31c

After the episode aired, Billie teased: 'It's no secret how much I love this show, and I have always said I would love to return to the Whoniverse as I have some of my best memories there, so to be given the opportunity to step back on that Tardis one more time was just something I couldn't refuse, but who, how, why and when, you'll just have to wait and see...'
Showrunner Russell T Davies also said: 'Billie once changed the whole of television, back in 2005, and now she's done it again!
'It's an honour and a hoot to welcome her back to the TARDIS, but quite how and why and who is a story yet to be told. After 62 years, the Doctor's adventures are only just beginning!'
The Doctor has previously regenerated into a familiar face once before, when Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth became a new version of the Time Lord, played by David Tennant in his second stint in charge of the Tardis.
It's not yet clear whether a new season of Doctor Who is currently on the cards, with tabloid speculation about the show being 'rested' at the end of its latest run.
Last month, a BBC spokesperson told HuffPost UK: 'As we have previously stated, the decision on season three will be made after season two airs and any other claims are just pure speculation.'

Battlefield 6 release date, price and beta weekend dates — Everything you need to know
Battlefield fans will soon get their hands on the highly-anticipated 'Battlefield 6' and experience what developers describe as a 'genre-defining, must-play first-person shooter experience you can't get anywhere else.' At the 'Battlefield 6' reveal livestream, broadcast Thursday on YouTube and Twitch, developer EA Games showcased new maps, modes, gameplay mechanics and the highly anticipated official release date. EA confirmed the new game will be released globally on Oct. 10, with two open beta weekends scheduled for August. 'Battlefield 6' will go head-to-head with ' Call of Duty Black Ops 7 ,' also scheduled to be released sometime later this year. 'Battlefield 6' will cost US$69.99, or around $97 for the standard version — keeping with the previous announcement by EA's CEO that the company isn't looking to jack up the price to US$80. The Phantom Edition costs US$99.99 or around $137.90. The high-tier version includes exclusive in-game content like additional soldier and vehicle skins, weapons packages and tier skips. The two are joining Black Ops alum Michael Rooker, who is set to reprise his 'Black Ops 2' role Both the standard and Phantom editions are now available to preorder on digital store fronts, which will give players access to the two beta weekends in August. The beta weekend events allow those who preordered to play the game ahead of the launch and provide early feedback to developers. Players who signed up to be a Battlefield Labs participant can also get prelaunch access, while others can watch partnered streamers on Twitch to earn early access privileges through Twitch Drops — in-game rewards viewers can earn by watching Twitch content. The first live open beta weekend will run from Aug. 9-10. The second is scheduled for Aug. 14-17. The game can be preloaded as early as Aug. 4 and be played during the beta weekends. Learning from Battlefield 2042's biggest pitfall at launch, the new Battlefield will bring back the single-player campaign, which storytelling fans missed from the last game. 'Battlefield 6' brings players into a post-NATO world on the brink of chaos and 'drowning in turmoil,' set in 2027. The story will follow a group of elite Marine raiders known as Dagger 1 — 3 as they fight to preserve global stability, EA said. From All-Out War to close-quarters chaos. 9 new multiplayer maps hit day one in #Battlefield6 🚁 Players will get to travel around the world, spanning nine new maps, including a remake of Operation Fire Storm from 'Battlefield 3.' At launch, the maps include: 'Battlefield 6' will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation, and PC (Steam, EA App, Epic Games Store) with availability both in retail and digitally, according to information on EA's page. Nintendo console players won't be able to get their hands on the game. The company said it currently has no plans to release 'Battlefield 6' on Switch 2. One of the nine maps to drop on launch features Gibraltar's Old Town, shown here. To be able to play the game, players must have these minimum PC system requirements: For the best gaming experience, EA recommends the following: Error! David Letterman Rips CBS Over ‘Late Show' Cancellation: 'Pure Cowardice'
Former Late Show host David Letterman has made his first direct comments about the cancellation of the CBS late night franchise — and they aren't positive. Speaking with his former executive producer, Barbara Gaines, in a YouTube video Friday, Letterman called the axing of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert 'pure cowardice' and said he doesn't believe the official line from CBS that the decision was purely about economics (the show has reportedly become a money-loser for the network). More from The Hollywood Reporter 'South Park' Creators Reveal Network Battle Over Premiere's Trump Penis as They Joke: "We're Terribly Sorry" Dissenting FCC Commissioner: Paramount Chose "Capitulation Over Courage" In Dealing With Trump Steve Buscemi Recalls Failed Audition for Barry Levinson's 'Tin Men': "There Was This Silence" 'The idea that they're hiding behind money — they've given [Colbert] another 10 months, that's another huge chunk of money they're gonna lose, according to them,' Letterman says in the video (watch it in full below). 'I don't think it was money. I think it was all to make sure [Skydance head David Ellison, set to become CEO of Paramount when the two companies' merger closes in early August] were solid spending dad's money.' (For much of the video, Letterman refers to Ellison as 'the Ellison twins' and 'the Oracle boys,' as in the software giant headed by Larry Ellison, David Ellison's father. Co-host Mary Barclay corrects him at one point, noting that David Ellison is not a twin, but he continues with the bit.) 'If they were losing that kind of money — you're telling me losing this kind of money happened yesterday?' Letterman continues. 'I bet they were losing this money a month ago or six weeks ago. Or they were never losing that kind of money. They did not handle Stephen Colbert, the face of that network, in the way he deserves.' Letterman's comments are his first directly addressing the cancellation of The Late Show, which he originated on CBS in 1993 and hosted until 2015. Colbert announced the cancellation on his July 17 show, although The Late Show will continue through the 2025-26 season. Letterman's YouTube channel, where his conversation with Gaines is posted, earlier this week shared a collection of Late Show clips featuring Letterman lambasting network brass. Letterman calls the decision 'sad,' though he jokes that it could be good for Colbert: 'For Stephen, I love this, because he gets to be a martyr.' He also relates the Late Show cancellation to CBS settling a lawsuit by Donald Trump against 60 Minutes for $16 million over the objections of the show's staff. 'This is pure cowardice,' Letterman says. 'You're telling me 60 Minutes, the pinnacle of journalistic excellence and integrity for decades … they decided, 'Aw, we're sorry, let us give you $20 million.' I believe this is in the wake of that.' Letterman closes with one last swipe at CBS and Paramount management. 'I think one day, if not today, the people at CBS who have manipulated and handled this are going to be embarrassed,' he says. 'This is gutless.'
