Choose Your Own Sardinia Adventure
You can get from the northern tip of Sardinia down to the bottom, where capital city Cagliari sits, in about four hours. And while some of that stretch on the Italian island is a quiet bit filled with quaint houses on olive tree-flanked roads, there's enough adventure to fill a vacation itinerary — if you know where to look.
Forte Village is one of the reasons we can say that so confidently. A playground of near-limitless possibilities, this 116-acre South Sardinia resort has eight hotels, more than 700 rooms, 35 dining and drinking options, a 4,000-seat arena, boutiques, a sparkling beach and much more. This expansive Mediterranean-kissing resort caters to all kinds of travelers, whether you're an athlete looking to up your game with a professional or a parent who needs to entertain the kids.
Reserve a room in Hotel Il Castello's contemporary elegance.
The fun begins the moment you choose your accommodations. With so many room, suite and villa options across the campus, the choice depends on you and your vacation goals. Get a neutral-toned Prestige room in Hotel Il Castello if you and your partner want to be near the beach. Try one of the bungalows in the foliage-filled Villa del Parco Hotel & Spa if you prefer to be close to the spa. Or splurge on one of the 13 magnificent villas when the romantic getaway calls for a private pool, butler service and nearly 3,000 square feet of personal space.
No matter where you lay your head, though, Acquaforte Thalasso & Spa is where you'll find the most relaxation together. The 2022-renovated sanctuary's menu is filled with unique services like the honey-and-salt massage, but couples may get the most joy from the thalassotherapy course. The six-part cycle is Forte Village's interpretation of how ancient Romans used sea water at different temperatures and varying saline densities to benefit the body. You'll bond with your significant other as you both tussle with 100-degree temperatures in the high-saline pool and get covered in the circuit's sticky sea oil.
Catch at least one meal at Fish Market.
Heinz Beck is one of the world's foremost gastronomic geniuses. When the German chef puts his stamp on a resort restaurant, it's understood that certain culinary standards will be met. When he puts his name on two establishments at the same property, like he does at Forte Village's Heinz Beck Restaurant and Beachcomber by Heinz Beck, it's safe to say that address exceeds every epicurean expectation.
At Heinz Beck Restaurant, the chef's European sensibilities shine through in an amazing turbot with black truffle and a lime-marinated cacio e pepe we haven't stopped dreaming about. Your smartly dressed table can nosh on dishes from a terrace overlooking the sea. Beachcomber by Heinz Beck is even closer to the waves, giving you an assortment of salads and seafood to enjoy by the sand.
No matter what you're in the mood for — pepperoni slices (Pizzeria Bellavista), prawns (Fish Market), grilled pork (Brasiliano) or popsicles (Snack Oasis) — there's likely a restaurant specializing in it around the Village. A rotating assortment of top chefs (when we visited, talented toques like Giuseppe Mancino and Andrea Aprea were cooking) adds its own flavor to kitchens. But for those meals when you can't quite tell what you're in the mood for, Cavalieri elevates the all-you-can scene with fresh lobster and house-made gelato.
Afternoons are literally a circus at this resort.
You could argue that the littlest guests get the best care at Forte Village. There's a literal circus on the campus with rotating shows filled with clowns and magicians. There's also a kid-centric restaurant (complete with mini chairs and tables), an arts camp, a tiny train choo-chooing around and a children's village composed of tyke-sized buildings. And for those times when parents want to nap or get a body wrap, there's a full-time day care service.
And even if your kids are too old for a sitter, they'll have a blast here. At the Acquapark, you'll find seven slides for the older ones and a pirate ship for younger siblings who begged to tag along. There's also a bowling alley and a go-kart track that they can bike to. Speaking of pedaling, we saw plenty of teens and tweens riding around the property, simply taking in the quiet — between selfie takes, of course.
Forte Village is always game for a little competition.
At press time, Jannik Sinner was the top-ranked male tennis player in the world. Guess where he did some training? Of course, Forte Village's tennis club can't promise you similar grand slam-winning results (though full-time coach Pat Cash is the 1987 Wimbledon champ), but it can guarantee a good time on one of the 13 courts. The same world-class standards apply in padel tennis and on new pickleball courts, too.
This resort's accomplishments go well beyond paddle sports, however. From the Real Madrid Foundation Football Clinic to academies in sports like swimming, fencing and field hockey that are all led by former Olympic medalists, if it's best-in-class training within a specific discipline that you seek, there may not be a more well-rounded team of instructors than what you'll find at Forte Village.
And if you or a loved one has a hobby outside of the traditional sports, there's a good chance there's a course for it here, too. Want to learn how to spin records like a top DJ? Sign right up. Have a kid with dreams of becoming the next Ryan Coogler? The Cinema Academy may be perfect for him. Think you might be related to a future Judit Polgár? See for yourself at the Chess Academy.
The new Nature Eco Park expands the resort's reach even more.
There is a world to explore at Forte Village. An afternoon of walking or biking will allow you to spot oleander, mastic trees and more than 3,000 other native plant species around the property. For those who want to take their botany lesson to the next level, Forte Village Nature Eco Park is a wildly entertaining option that debuts this spring.
The 17-acre green space is home to native foliage, mammals (like alpacas, emus and Sardinian sheep) and birds (such as pheasants, turkeys and Mandarin ducks). You'll also find a walking and cycling path, a vegetable garden and stable filled with horses and donkeys. Discuss what you see over a bite and beverages at the onsite restaurant.
Explore the ancient ruins of Nora.
Should you want to step away from Forte Village for a few hours, concierge will happily arrange a day trip for you to nearby sites. Where the resort sits, you're just a 20-minute drive from the Capo Spartivento Calabro Lighthouse in one direction and only a 15-minute ride to Pula in the other way.
Pula's tiled walkways and colorful flags dangling overhead only hint at the stories this town could tell. After strolling around the charming squares and stores, stop by S'Osteria, a shop that not only sells hundreds of olive oil varieties, but it has wooden pot mats and other handmade items that make for wonderful mementos.
Just 10 minutes from Pula you'll come to the sea, where the ruins of Nora are found. The active archaeological site was once the first Phoenician city in Sardinia, thriving in the 5th and 6th centuries B.C. You can still spot mosaic floors and irrigation remnants from that time.
Nearly as fascinating is the fact the site is still used today for spectacle, most notably in July 2024 when fashion powerhouse Dolce & Gabbana erected a runway that had Nora's ancient remains and renowned artist Phillip K Smith's reflective installation 'Nora Mirage' as show-stopping backdrops.

This Italian Spa Hotel Seamlessly Blends Wellness, Luxury, and the Outdoors—and It Has Stunning Mountain Views
Located in Ortisei, Italy, Adler Spa Resort Dolomiti offers a luxury wellness-focused hospitality experience in the heart of the Dolomites. During their time at the hotel, guests can enjoy activities like yoga, hiking, and e-biking. Make time to visit the massive spa, which has a 40-page-long treatment menu. You can feast on gourmet dining inspired by Italian and local Tyrolean culinary traditions. This is a great destination for both couples and families, with kid-friendly spa treatments and spacious suites with Alpine views. In the rugged heart of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site, you'll find Adler Spa Resort Dolomiti. A bona fide wellness oasis located in Ortisei, Italy, in South Tyrol, it's one of seven properties in the Adler Spa Resorts & Lodges group, which has been independently owned by the Sanoner family since 1810. The Adler Spa Resorts' motto is "let your soul fly free," and mine did just so, during my stay at the resort. One of my most memorable experiences at the property involved a multisensory wellness ritual conducted by a sauna master. As he poured essential oil-infused water over hot stones, he walked and danced around the room, fanning hot steam in the direction of guests with a towel. The 10 minutes of extreme heat were almost unbearable for me—but after a quick cold plunge in the shadow of the Alps, I'd never felt more invigorated in my life. 'The best part about Adler is that you have this complete offering from the outdoors, to the spa, and other wellness activities, which helps to make your body and soul feel better," says Lara Holzknecht, Adler Dolomiti's sales and marketing manager. Here's what it's like to stay at the Adler Spa Resort Dolomiti. Interior of a hotel guest room. Alex Filz/Courtesy of ADLER Spa Resort DOLOMITI When you step inside one of the property's 108 rooms, you'll immediately notice the natural wood décor, which is meant to complement its surroundings and provide a sense of warmth. I was told the minimalist rooms are "designed not to stay in, but to leave out." Some of the notable features inside my modern and very spacious suite included high-quality bathrobes, two double-door closets, a walk-in rain shower, a king-sized bed (which could easily be separated into two full-size beds, if needed), a small furnished sitting area, as well as a private balcony with partial views of the Italian Alps. Tables are set inside the regional-Mediterranean cuisine restaurant. Courtesy of ADLER Spa Resort DOLOMITI There's one on-site restaurant at Adler Spa Resort Dolomiti. If you opt for half-board during your stay, you'll get access to an elaborate buffet-style breakfast with a variety of fresh fruit, cheeses, baked pastries, a juice bar, and cook-to-order food options as well. The plan even comes with a fine-dining daily dinner. After picking some appetizers from another buffet-style spread, guests can indulge in a five or six-course à la carte menu. I particularly enjoyed the savory arctic char, wild broccoli, and pressed bread dumpling. 'Our menu draws inspiration from a fusion of Italian and Tyrolean culinary traditions, reflecting the unique cultural crossroads of our location in the Dolomites," says head chef Martino Longo. And it wouldn't be a trip to Italy without a nice helping of vino. You can choose a bottle from a selection of more than 300 wines. Tomeka Jones enjoying the scenic views from the hotels outdoor pool. Tomeka Jones/Travel + Leisure There are a plethora of activities offered throughout the year at Adler for no additional cost. Some activities, such as skiing and snowshoeing, are only available in the winter, but you can go for a hike or an e-bike ride in the winter. I especially enjoyed the new yoga studio with its wooden décor, beautiful gongs, and the panoramic windows, which let in plenty of sunshine. There's also a fitness center with a variety of workout equipment, and you can even take classes with an instructor. You can register for activities and classes from the comfort of your room using a QR code. A cozy fireplace sits in the hotel lobby. Courtesy of ADLER Spa Resort DOLOMITI The Adler Dolomiti spa is arguably the star of the show at this hotel, and is perfect for guests looking for an over-the-top wellness experience. The spa's lavish waiting area is huge—you'll need to sit down to browse through the massive 40-page spa treatment menu. I tried the 50-minute Adler Body Silhouette option, which was described as a remodeling treatment meant to stimulate the production of collagen and improve tissue tone. I got up from my treatment feeling refreshed. But, the spa is also the perfect place to just sit and relax. There are heated indoor swimming pools, and multiple outdoor pools as well, with spectacular day and evening Alpine views. There's also a Whirlpool, Turkish baths, a salt grotto, cryotherapy chambers, and saunas. Horses on the Dolomite plateau Seiser Alm which is the largest high-elevation Alpine meadow in Europe. Tomeka Jones/Travel + Leisure Pampering and wellness can be a family affair at this hotel. The spa offers a "Feel-Good" treatment that can help parents and children bond and includes sauna time, a massage, and a milk bath experience. Kids and teenagers can also enjoy some solo age-appropriate spa services like hands, feet, and body massages, as well as facials. The hotel also provides cute little colored bathrobes to its younger guests. But, if you're looking for more active things to do together, the kiddos can participate in ski school classes and also spend time at the resort's childcare facility, Aki Kids Club. There are two room types at the Adler Dolomiti that are wheelchair accessible, the family superior and the double-room superior. However, you may have trouble navigating parts of the property. Contact the property in advance if you need any special accommodations or have any questions. To minimize their carbon footprint, the entire Adler group, including the Adler Dolomiti property, has implemented eco-friendly procedures as part of its Adler for Planet Initiative. Their commitments include paper-free communication, refillable toiletries to reduce waste, environmentally friendly cleaning products, more energy-efficient water and light fixtures, and responsible waste and recycling management. Exterior view of the hotel spa. Alex Filz/Courtesy of ADLER Spa Resort DOLOMITI The resort is located in the small mountain town of Ortisei, Italy, located in the valley of Val Gardena in South Tyrol. The closest major airports include Austria's Innsbruck Airport (INN) and Verona Airport (VRN) in Italy. Both are about a two-hour drive from the hotel. You'll likely want to rent a car to get to the property if you want to explore the surrounding area. I flew into Munich International Airport (MUC) to see more of Europe by train. Three trains and three hours later, I arrived at Innsbruck Central Train Station. From there, a shuttle service (arranged by the hotel) transported me through the area's scenic mountains to the property—the views were incredible. Before you stay at the Adler Spa Resort Dolomiti, I recommend joining its complimentary Adler Friends loyalty program. It's a great way to earn and redeem points at one of seven Adler Spa Resorts & Lodges, with locations in the Dolomites, Tuscany, and Sicily. Adler Spa Resort Dolomoiti is not a part of any travel credit card programs. Every T+L hotel review is written by an editor or reporter who has stayed at the property, and each hotel selected aligns with our core values.

Welsh hotel is being roasted online by guests with shocking stories to tell
Angry tourists have accused a Newport hotel of cancelling their bookings with little or no notice. Reviews online, including on TripAdvisor show a number of tourists alleging staff at the Silurian Hotel in Newport's High Street, which is now owned by budget apartments company Belvilla, had informed them on arrival that their stays had been cancelled. Visitors to the hotel were often, they claimed, left bemused as to what had happened to their bookings and they also claimed they received little or no explanation from Belvilla, which has operated the hotel since autumn, 2024 and does not appear to have responded to any of the highly critical comments about it online. In recent weeks, multiple people have told a similar story about the hotel. READ MORE: Locked Up: The criminals justice caught up with in July READ MORE: A sinkhole appeared in this busy road 2 years ago - it's been shut ever since they looked inside Many said they chose the hotel due it being close to Newport railway station, providing convenient access to Cardiff for gigs, but claimed that on arrival hotel staff said they had no evidence of their bookings or in some cases the hotel had decided to cancel their bookings in advance of stays due to the standard of the room. Never miss a Newport story by subscribing to our newsletter here. One visitor claimed she'd booked for five separate people and each room was cancelled within hours' notice with the same reason given by the hotel. Suzy Evans, who had booked the hotel in October, 2024, for a gig on July 12, claimed: 'I made a booking at this hotel in October, 2024 for July 12, 2025. The hotel is very close to Newport station and we wanted to stay there as we had tickets to a concert in Cardiff that evening. 'Already when we arrived things did not look promising. We were fourth in the queue to check in and the person being served looked to be having issues with checking in. There were two people serving guests but the gentlemen were just sitting there looking on. 'After 10 to 15 minutes of waiting he finally served the second person in the queue. After 30 minutes of waiting we finally were served but they couldn't find my booking. 'Just two weeks earlier they'd confirmed via that I could check in from 2pm. They hunted for another 10 minutes or so and came to the conclusion that they could not in any way offer us a room for the night. We were extremely annoyed and shocked by this having reserved months in advance.' Suzy also claimed: 'On arriving home I found an email from asking me to confirm that I hadn't checked in and then an hour later at midnight another email arrived stating the hotel had cancelled my booking. 'I have tried to contact the hotel directly but there is a recorded message and I cannot leave a voicemail as their inbox is full. Who knows now if they'll try to charge me. It's been quite an unbelievable and unpleasant experience.' A tourist named Alex also claimed on TripAdvisor that he was left confused when, before he was due to stay at the hotel, he was contacted by Belvilla who told him the rooms weren't right for them and so his booking had been cancelled. He claimed: 'I booked three rooms for a group and one month before arrival they cancelled the three bookings. The guest experience manager said the rooms were not up to OYO Hotels' standard and so he cancelled our booking. 'He tried to reassure me that we would not be charged any money for this booking. He felt I should be grateful not to be charged for a cancelled booking.' A review from another visitor named Michelle told the same story, claiming. 'We had five rooms booked and slowly, one by one, they said there was a problem with each room and they needed to cancel. I saw it on loads of previous reviews but thought we'd be okay." Many of the stories followed a similar line in that tourists claimed they'd booked for particularly busy nights for hotels in the area due to concerts and everything had seemed fine before their bookings were suddenly cancelled. Lucie, who said she had travelled a long way to the area for a gig in Cardiff, claimed: 'My husband and I booked weeks before a concert we were going to in Cardiff via We travelled a long way to be there - checked the night before that my booking was confirmed. 'When we arrived they said there was no booking in our name. We checked my account and the booking had been cancelled just four and a half hours before check in time. 'They left us high and dry on a very busy Friday night. By the time we found somewhere else to stay we had missed the beginning of the concert and had no time to eat.' Tourist Andy claimed on July 14: 'I arrived at the hotel on Friday afternoon only to be told that they didn't have our reservation despite me having email confirmation and I was also able to show the reservation on their own website. 'They said they were fully booked. By that I take it they have a policy of over booking to ensure that they are full, hence the numerous reviews with regards to last minute cancellations.' Belvilla has been contacted for comment.
