Julia Garner offers update on Madonna biopic
The Ozark actress was cast as the Material Girl hitmaker in 2022 but months later, the project was placed on hold and its fate has been up in the air ever since.
However, Julia insisted on the SmartLess podcast that the biopic is "supposed to still happen".
The Fantastic Four: First Steps star had been a fan of Madonna when she was growing up so knew she had to audition as soon as she heard the project was in the pipeline.
She said: 'It just came about… like I knew that they were doing a project, making a movie about it, and then I went out to audition. I kind of just wanted to see if I could do it.'
The 31-year-old actress has no dance training so had to learn how to move and then show off her skills in front of Madonna herself, and she decided to channel the Vogue hitmaker during her audition.
Explaining she asked herself what Madonna would do, she added: 'Which is like convince you that she deserves… to be in this room. And I owned it. I was like, 'You can take it or leave it, but if you leave it, if I leave, then that's on you.' '
In July last year, Madonna revealed she was working on a new draft script for the biopic, which will be titled Who's That Girl in a nod to the singer's 1987 movie and song of the same name.
Madonna took to Instagram and posted a collection of photos of herself working on the script with the caption: 'I Need A-lot of Bandz to make this ……….. OKAY. (Story of my life) (sic).'
The film was announced in 2020, and writers Diablo Cody and Erin Cressida Wilson were brought on to help the Like A Virgin hitmaker with the script and screenplay.
However, in January 2023, it was revealed the film had been paused indefinitely at Universal Pictures.
After the movie was shelved, Madonna went on her Celebration Tour in October 2023 to mark four decades in the music industry, but reportedly resumed work on the project once she got back home in June in the hopes she could finalise the script with Universal.
An industry insider previously told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: 'Madonna has only just finished her tour but in her mind it is on to the next project and fulfilling her dream of getting the biopic made.
'Julia is still her lead actress and they have remained in touch for the past year, talking through ideas. They are committed to creating some magic.'
The 'Vogue' chart-topper had explained she wanted to both direct and write the movie because she wanted complete control over the project.
She told Variety: 'I've had an extraordinary life, I must make an extraordinary film.
'It was also a pre-emptive strike because a lot of people were trying to make movies about me. Mostly misogynistic men.
'So I put my foot in the door and said, 'No one's going to tell my story, but me.''

Like meeting God was the greatest championship he'd ever have.' Brooke also used her post to 'clear a few things up' regarding their estrangement. The TV personality (who featured with Hulk in the reality show Hogan Knows Best) wrote: 'It was a series of private phone calls no one will ever hear, know, or understand. 'My father was confiding in me about issues weighing on his heart, both personal and business. 'I offered to be a life raft in whatever capacity he needed. I told him he had my support. I begged him to rest, to take care of himself.' Brooke ultimately took a step back from her dad in order to 'protect (her) heart'. However, she does not have any regrets about how she dealt with the situation. She said: 'I know in my heart I did everything I could. 'He knew I would run through a burning building for him. And in many ways, along the path of life, I did. 'He knows how deeply, how hard and how purely I loved him. I am at peace knowing this.'

Kelley Wolf's son reacts to 'insane' video after she tried to enter family home
Scott and Kelley Wolf's son Jackson has called his mother's actions 'insane' after she tried to enter the family home. Kelly and Scott - who share Jackson, 16, Miller, 12, and 11-year-old Lucy together - split last month after more than 20 years of marriage, with Scott granted sole custody of the kids and exclusive use of their Park City home. However, Kelley took to Instagram to document herself trying to gain access to the home, with police present, in order to 'retrieve some basic items'. She told her Instagram followers: 'I'm currently about to meet up with a deputy of Summit County who's going to escort me into my home so I can get some money that I have saved. I have just had enough... I'm sick of being treated like I'm crazy. 'I have a sassy attitude, my God, but being called things like grandiose, bipolar, schizophrenic, crazy, being banned from places I've been forever is just rude, honestly. 'I have to now prove myself and [I] did nothing except ask for a divorce. I'm sure y'all have seen this before, but wrong lady, because I don't back down. 'My dad taught me [to] keep cash. You know, just keep cash. And since I now owe a lot of lovely people a lot of money back, I've never asked for $1 in my life. 'I just want to get a few things… I tried to do this as peacefully [possible]. I've called you guys eight times in January saying I didn't feel safe, but [Scott] beat me to the punch. Apparently, I tried to file, but if somebody files before you, they can do a lot of weird stuff. 'We're both famous, just that's the part that sucks. It's embarrassing.' Jackson publicly reacted to the post, commenting: 'This is insane mom what are you doing.' A spokesperson for the Summit County Sheriff's Office confirmed that they responded to a 'keep the peace' call on the morning of July 29. The spokesperson told PEOPLE: 'The original call came in at 7:53 in the morning. The deputy did not meet with them at the residence until 9:45, and the deputy advised that the complainant had left the scene at 11:34. "It appeared that the locks on the house had been changed. [Kelley] made some phone calls to family, had some conversations with family [but] still wasn't able to gain access into the house and ultimately left. "We didn't have any contact with anyone [who might have been at the residence]. But we were never inside either. We wouldn't know definitively, but we have no reason to believe that there was anyone there. "The complainant did mention that there was a court order in place. As a standard procedure in these types of cases, our deputy did search for any types of orders that would bar or prohibit the complainant from being at the residence, and they were unable to locate any existing orders." Scott and Kelley recently reached a temporary agreement which set out provisions around custody, visitation, finances, and communication, with the Party of Five actor's temporary restraining order against his estranged wife also dismissed. According to the agreement, neither party is permitted to discuss adult issues, the divorce, or the kids' relationship with their other parent in front of or with the children, and Scott and Kelley are also barred from making disparaging remarks, either verbally or in writing, and cannot interrogate their brood about what happens when they are with their other parent. The agreement also includes a social media stipulation, which means neither may post about one another, their marriage, children or the divorce, nor allow any third party to do so.
