Sound Of Lightning can make some noise at Navan
Trained by Donnacha O'Brien, the homebred Flaxman Stables filly is out of an unraced daughter to the brilliant Six Perfections, and she showed that she inherited plenty of ability when third on debut in a race won by J M's Joy.
That was four weeks ago, at the Curragh, and there is every reason to believe she can be considerably better this time. She was a little slow to find stride that day but made good progress into midfield before striding out well in the closing stages to take third spot.
Drawn low here, she has every opportunity to take up a more prominent and favourable position through the early stages of this race, and she can improve enough to account for the experienced pair, Nobler and Vorfreude, and the promising Reyenzi.
Zipster was a real eyecatcher on his recent return to the turf, at Leopardstown, and in the expectation of even better this time, he will go close in the Arkle Bar Handicap.
The remarkable Kyprios is bidding for a third win in the listed Bar One Racing Vintage Crop Stakes and, at odds of around 1-5, he is hardly a betting proposition.
This is a repeat of his start to last season, when he won here before going to the Saval Beg and on to the Gold Cup at Ascot, and onwards to a perfect season of seven wins. The seven-year-old is the standout stayer at the moment and has little to fear from his opponents here. Enfranchise and Leinster can push him closest.
The best race on the card is the Group 3 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Salsabil Stakes and while Catalina Delcarpio is raw in terms of experience — she made her debut just 17 days ago — she is an exciting sort and can take the step up in grade in her stride.
Well backed to make a winning start in what looked like a good maiden, she travelled strongly, made rapid progress around the final bend, and quickened away to win as she pleased. It was tremendously impressive and if she does not find this race coming too soon, she will take some beating.
Tarima has a similar profile and must be respected, while Ecstatic and Spicy Margarita have plenty of experience and are capable of hitting the frame.
The listed Irish Stallion Farms EBF Committed Stakes is a bit of a puzzle, but Whistlejacket sets the standard on two-year-old form and will take beating if forward enough for his return.
He was a couple of lengths in front of stablemate Ides Of March, who re-opposes, when they met in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint and the Prix Morny winner can improve further this season.
He can take this at the expense of his old rival, while Bodhi Bear has race fitness on his side and the evidence of his comeback victory in Cork suggests he is upwardly mobile and has a profitable season in front of him.

Jan Brueghel and Calandagan set for round two clash in Ascot's King George
Round Two between Jan Brueghel and Calandagan is set for Ascot's King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes on Saturday. British racing's midsummer highlight – and at £1.5 million (over €1.7 million) the most valuable race ever run at Ascot – will stage the latest clash between the pair that fought out a memorable finish to last month's Coronation Cup. On that occasion, last year's St Leger hero Jan Brueghel delivered a doughty performance to win by half-a-length for Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore. Since then, his French rival has impressed with a Group One victory of his own in the Grand Prix de Saint Cloud, when he emphatically ended a streak of four runner-up placings. READ MORE It helped quash some doubters of Calandagan's resolution after he was outstayed by the Irish winner on easy going at Epsom. Conditions look like being quicker this weekend over the course and distance Calandagan impressed when landing last year's King Edward VII Stakes. Just eight entries were left in the King George at Monday's acceptance stage, half of them from O'Brien. They include the dual-Derby hero Lambourn and Whirl, winner of the Pretty Polly Stakes, although the trainer has indicated both will skip Ascot to wait for other assignments. Jessica Harrington left in Green Impact, sixth to Lambourn in last month's Irish Derby, while Kalpana, runner-up to Whirl on her last start at the Curragh, is on course to try her repeat her Group One success at Ascot last autumn. Barry Mahon, racing manager for Kalpana's Juddmonte ownership said: 'She is all systems go for the King George. This has been her intended target since her last run in Ireland, and she is in good shape. 'I think her two runs this year have been very solid. We know she is proven over a mile and a half on soft ground, so for her to produce those performances over 10 furlongs on quicker ground is very promising. 'We would be hopeful of a strong showing on Saturday back over 12 furlongs, for all it looks a competitive race. Calandagan is a top-class horse, and we all saw what Jan Brueghel did at Epsom.' Bookmakers struggled to split Jan Brueghel and Calandagan after Monday's entry, with some making the pair 15-8 joint-favourites. In other news, advance ticket sales for next week's Galway festival are up, with significant cross-channel interest for the weekend action. Galway's chief executive Michael Moloney believes the summer showpiece is benefiting from an overall trend of greater numbers of racegoers coming from Britain for big racing festivals here. 'We've seen UK attendances increase at other Irish festivals and I think we get that bounce, too, coming into the weekend. They take the opportunity to come over and it's great to get it,' he said on Monday. February's Dublin Racing Festival, in particular, has seen a surge of cross-channel racegoers with up to 38 per cent of overall attendance made up of visitors last year. Moloney said that hospitality for one of the most famous racing dates of the year in Ireland has all but sold out. Last year's festival attendance at Ballybrit reached 116,374 over the seven days. That was a significant drop from 122,362 in 2023, but on a par with 2022. The two years prior to that were held behind closed doors due to the Covid pandemic. Almost 150,000 attended a decade ago.

Templegate tips up a massive 288-1 Glorious Goodwood ante-post double including a ‘rock-solid' value pick
TEMPLEGATE came close to delivering a perfect three-from-three with his most recent ante-post tips. Readers will have gladly snaffled the 3-1 about More Thunder and watched in delight as he snatched victory in the Bunbury Cup at odds-on. 1 Holkham Bay loves Ascot but he can make his mark at Goodwood too in the ultra-competitive Stewards' Cup Credit: Getty While other value picks Raafedd and Endless Victory also finished in the places - beaten just over a length combined. Here, our top tipster, who's enjoying a hot run of form, picks out two others at eyecatching prices he fancies over the coming weeks. GOLDEN MILE (Goodwood, Fri Aug 1): Back ARISAIG each-way at 16-1 Glorious Goodwood is just around the corner and ARISAIG looks a solid each-way bet in Friday's Golden Mile. The Johnston stable has an excellent record in this race with Mark lifting it three times in four years between 2009 and 2012. He also saddled Maydanny to take it in 2021 and Charlie was second with Dutch Decoy at long odds 12 months ago so they know what it takes to win. Arisaig has a win over course and distance from a hot handicap at last year's Festival and it looked like that was her level for a while. That was until she ran an absolute belter in the Coral Challenge at Sandown last time. Most read in Horse Racing She was a little unlucky in that she didn't get the clearest of runs through the pack and that allowed the winner to steal a march. She came home like a train for second and was gaining with every stride. There's always a little luck involved thanks to her hold-up style but her two visits to Goodwood have been excellent and 16-1 looks rock solid for her to make the frame again. She has performed on fast and good ground along with slow on the all-weather so it shouldn't matter too much what the weather does. STEWARDS' CUP (Goodwood, Sat Aug 2): Back HOLKHAM BAY each-way at 16-1 HOLKHAM BAY is in plenty of notebooks thanks to his barnstorming fourth in the Wokingham when he was beaten less than half a length ploughing a lone furrow up the stands' side. Plenty will have lost faith in him after a modest effort back at Ascot last weekend when he didn't enjoy dropping back to five furlongs. The main problem was he was upset by a ridiculously loud PA system near the parade ring before the race and being drawn on the wrong side only made matters worse. So I'm happy to keep the faith for the Stewards' Cup where hopefully Goodwood will turn the sound down! The 16s on offer looks a fair price as he'll enjoy the six-furlong test and the ground is likely to suit. We obviously need some luck with the draw but that's reflected in his odds. Punters hold their breath as ‘monster plunge' on Aidan O'Brien horse who's ‘so fast' threatens to go up in flames
A 'MONSTER' plunge on an Aidan O'Brien horse who's 'so fast' could go up in flames - thanks to big rival Charlie Appleby. Whistlejacket looked a future superstar when sent off odds-on for Norfolk at last year's Royal Ascot. Advertisement 2 Aidan O'Brien's big rival Charlie Appleby could make the 'monster plunge' on Whistlejacket go up in smoke in the July Cup - after the Godolphin trainer supplemented former 2,000 Guineas winner Notable Speech for the big Group 1 Credit: PA 2 Whistlejacket, right, looked a world-beater but it hasn't quite worked out what way - and a massive gamble on him could yet be foiled on Saturday Credit: PA But he could only finish fourth that day before banging in Group 2 and Group 1 wins at Newmarket and Deauville respectively. The Coolmore-owned colt returned this season with a Listed success at Navan but was again turned over at odds on at Naas in May. He finished sixth in last month's Commonwealth Cup - yet that tells only half the story. Whistlejacket travelled ominously well but was repeatedly denied a clear run in the closing stages, beaten just under five lengths but nearest at the finish. Advertisement Amazingly, on the back of that, odds of 33-1 for Saturday's July Cup were available ante-post for the confirmed 6f specialist. A number of shrewd punters moved to gobble up the price and he has been hammered all the way into a best 7-1 for the £657,000 Group 1 as a result. The gamble on Whistlejacket had all the hallmarks of a good, old-fashioned punt - until Appleby got involved. The Moulton Paddocks handler threw a massive spanner in the works when he supplemented former 2,000 Guineas winner Notable Speech on Monday. Advertisement Most read in Horse Racing He's been walloped as a result and is now into as short as 2-1 having been put in the market at 4s. That's not to say Whistlejacket can't still do the business for O'Brien and likely jockey Ryan Moore. But if Notable Speech had not been added then Whistlejacket would be vying for favouritism - if not favourite - against the likes of Flora Of Bermuda and Inisherin. O'Brien - who has another horse running this week that Advertisement Speaking of Whistlejacket's chances, the Ballydoyle boss said: "We were happy with him going into Ascot, but we all saw what happened with him there so we didn't get a clear reading. "He just didn't have any luck in running in the Commonwealth Cup, but we have been happy with him since. "The plan was to always go sprinting with him this season and after Ascot the intention was to bring him to Newmarket for the July Cup. "He was a good winner over course and distance last year in the July Stakes so we know that he handles the track well. Advertisement "It was quick at Ascot, and he looked okay there, so the ground shouldn't be a problem for him. "We have won this race with some great horses in the past and hopefully he will give a good account of himself."
