DC urges Muharram procession organisers to promote peace
He expressed these views during his visits to various Ashura procession routes, said Deputy Commissioner spokesperson on Tuesday. The administration is finalising all arrangements for the upcoming Muharram and Ashura period, aiming to ensure peaceful observances and exemplary services for the citizens.
The DC conducted detailed inspections of Ashura procession routes, including Syed Mehdi Hussain Imam Bargah and Gawal Mandi Railway Road, to personally oversee the preparations. He was accompanied by the Chief Officer Metropolitan Corporation Lahore, the Assistant Commissioner Shalimar, and other relevant officials.
During the visit, Assistant Commissioner Shalimar Muhammad Saqib Trazi provided a comprehensive briefing on the arrangements, confirming that Rescue 1122 teams and Clinic on Wheels services will be deployed along all Muharram and Ashura procession routes. Furthermore, medical aid camps and water stalls will be set up to cater to the needs of the participants.
The DC reiterated that the administration will maintain continuous monitoring of all religious gatherings and processions throughout Muharram-ul-Haram, stressing that no negligence in arrangements will be tolerated.
'Directives have been issued for the completion of all construction work along procession routes before the eve of Ashura. Additionally, WASA officials have been instructed to make special arrangements given the monsoon season, ensuring efficient drainage. Unnecessary obstructions and encroachments along routes are to be removed immediately,' he said, warning that strict action will be taken against violators of the Loudspeaker Act, and urged citizens to contact the District Administration Control Room at 03070002345 in case of any emergency.

LAHORE: Information Minister Punjab Azma Bokhari has said that there is zero tolerance for hate speech and incitement on social media, and the Punjab government is strictly implementing this policy with 24/7 monitoring in place. She said this during her visit Toba Tek Singh to review security, law and order, and the facilities being provided to mourners during the holy month of Muharram. Later, the minister visited the central Imambargah, the traditional procession routes, and the central control room. Using CCTV monitoring, she reviewed security deployment, cleanliness, lighting arrangements, and availability of water stations. She also inspected facilities accompanying the processions such as Rescue 1122 units, mobile field hospitals, on-wheels clinics, and water sprinkling services. Azma Bokhari said that Muharram teaches the values of patience, sacrifice, unity, and tolerance, and in today's global context, this message holds even greater significance. She praised the spirit of inter-sect harmony and religious tolerance witnessed in Toba Tek Singh, adding that clerics should use their platforms to guide the public on the positive use of social media to promote peace, tolerance, and unity in society. In conclusion, Azma Bokhari appreciated the efforts of the district administration, law enforcement agencies, municipal departments, and all relevant stakeholders for their coordinated and committed work. ATC adjourns proceedings in cases against IK, Qureshi
ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday adjourned proceedings in multiple protest-related cases against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan, and his close aide Shah Mahmood Qureshi – both are facing incarceration – and others, after they could not appear before it. ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra was scheduled to hear two separate cases registered at Khanna Police Station related to anti-government protests. However, due to non-appearance by Khan and Qureshi, the hearing did not proceed and was adjourned until July 23 after the attendance of the other accused was recorded. Separately, the court heard a petition seeking the suspension of arrest warrants issued against Ali Amin Gandapur, the current chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in connection with a protest case from October 2022. The counsel for Gandapur argued that Peshawar High Court (PHC) had barred authorities from arresting his client until the next hearing. Judge Sipra said that no formal communication had been received from the PHC and clarified that the ATC had not issued any new arrest warrant. 'I am not ordering Gandapur's arrest,' Judge Sipra said during the hearing. 'The warrants were issued before your petition in PHC. This court only directed their execution. If PHC has restrained arrest, inform the IG accordingly.' Gandapur remains a proclaimed offender in the ATC, the judge noted, justifying the issuance of non-bailable arrest warrants. The court adjourned further proceedings on the suspension plea until Gandapur appears in person. In a separate case before the Islamabad District and Sessions Court, Gandapur also failed to appear in connection with a 2016 case relating to the alleged recovery of weapons and liquor from him in the BharaKahu area. Senior Civil Judge Mubashir Hassan Chishti was set to record Gandapur's statement under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code, but his lawyer submitted a request for exemption, citing Gandapur's participation in security meetings for Muharram in Swat. 'The court is requested to reschedule the hearing for July 19, as other related matters are already fixed for that day,' said his counsel.
