Top stock market recommendations:
According to Aakash K Hindocha, Deputy Vice President - WM Research, Nuvama Professional Clients Group, Hero Motocorp, Tata Power are the top buy calls for today.
Solar Industries India is a sell call.
Here's his view on Nifty, Bank Nifty and the top stock picks for July 17, 2025:
Index View: Nifty
Nifty traded broadly within its previous day's range, recovering its early morning losses to end with minor gains ahead of its weekly expiry due today. With downside targets seeming to be complete and fresh upside opens up only above 25325 closing, any 50-70 point dip is likely to get bought into for targets of 25320 odd for this week's trade.
Bank Nifty
Bank Nifty continuing its outperformance ended at a 5 day closing highs as its supports of 56750 got protected not once, but twice at the start of this week. With continuing outperformance against Nifty, Bank Nifty is now back on track to scale to fresh all time highs, unless a close below 56750 negates this formation on daily charts.
HEROMOTOCO (BUY):
LCP: 4424
Stop Loss: 4260
Target: 5000
Ending at a 6 month closing highs earlier this week, Hero Motocorp has given a breakout from its bullish cup and handle pattern along with a crossover from its 200 DMA.

This breakout also marks an end to the 8 week long consolidation seen on daily charts as the stock has shown signs of moving further northward given the price action positioned in a similar stance for a target of 5000 for now.
TATAPOWER (BUY):
LCP: 415
Stop Loss: 400
Target: 450
After holding above its 200 DMA all through the past week, the Tata Power stock has moved forward to breakout from its 6 month long cup and handle formation on daily and weekly charts ahead of its quarterly numbers.
This is accompanied by a higher low formation on daily charts repeated over 5 times in the past 3-4 months signalling presences of buyers at lower levels.
SOLARIND (SELL):
LCP: 15190
Stop Loss: 16000
Target: 13700
After a strong rally of 110% from its Feb 2025 lows to June 2025 highs, Solar Industries India has started showing profit taking as focus shifts from defence as a sector. Charts suggest that over 40-50% of this recent rally is likely to be retraced, however we are looking for targets of 13700-800 zone which also coincides with its previous breakout and consolidation zone. Stock has already corrected ~15% off recent highs in less than 3 weeks.

Gold falls Rs 200 to Rs 98,670/10 g; silver declines Rs 500

Meanwhile, gold of 99.5 per cent purity declined by Rs 200 to Rs 98,200 per 10 grams (inclusive of all taxes) on Thursday. It had finished at Rs 98,400 per 10 grams in the previous market close. The precious metal of 99.9 per cent purity went lower by Rs 500 to close at Rs 98,870 per 10 grams on Wednesday. New Delhi, Jul 17 (PTI) Gold prices fell by Rs 200 to Rs 98,670 per 10 grams in the national capital on Thursday due to unabated selling by stockists amid subdued demand trend in the overseas markets, according to the All India Sarafa Association. As per the association, silver prices diminished by Rs 500 to Rs 1,10,500 per kilogram (inclusive of all taxes) on Thursday. The white metal had ended at Rs 1,11,000 per kg on Wednesday. 'Gold prices slipped as safe-haven demand eased after US-China tensions cooled with the lifting of the AI chip ban, and President Donald Trump signalled that a trade deal with India is close. 'Meanwhile, steep 30 per cent tariffs were imposed on Mexico and the European Union, the possibility of further negotiations kept market fears in check. This has reduced the urgency for safety trades like gold, weighing on prices,' Abans Financial Services' Chief Executive Officer Chintan Mehta said. However, the broader uncertainty from aggressive tariff actions continues to offer some underlying support, limiting the downside for the yellow metal, Mehta added. Globally, spot gold fell by USD 21.55 or 0.64 per cent to USD 3,326.05 per ounce. 'Gold edged lower as traders turned cautious ahead of US macroeconomic data, including retail sales data, employment numbers, and speeches by several Fed Reserve officials,' Kaynat Chainwala, AVP-Commodity Research at Kotak Securities, said. According to Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst – Commodity and Currency at LKP Securities, gold traded weak below USD 3,330 per ounce as the dollar index strengthened above 98.75, following higher-than-expected US CPI inflation data, which dampened hopes of an immediate interest rate cut by the Fed. Spot silver went lower by 0.11 per cent to trade at USD 37.86 per ounce in the international markets. PTI HG HG SHW This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. Funders commit USD 1B toward developing AI tools for frontline workers

New York, Jul 17 (AP) A coalition of funders, including the Gates Foundation and Ballmer Group, will spend USD 1 billion over 15 years to help develop artificial intelligence tools for public defenders, parole officers, social workers and others who help Americans in precarious situations. The funders announced Thursday that they will create a new entity, NextLadder Ventures, to offer grants and investments to nonprofits and for-profits to develop tools for those who often manage huge caseloads with few resources. 'The solutions that we're investing in, the hundreds of entrepreneurs that are going to bring forward solutions that incorporate leading edge technologies, are going to do it by coming alongside people who are living through some of the struggles in the economy," said Brian Hooks, CEO of Stand Together, a nonprofit started by Kansas-based billionaire Charles Koch. The other funders include hedge fund founder John Overdeck and Valhalla Foundation, which was started by Inuit cofounder Steve Cook and his wife Signe Ostby. Ballmer Group is the philanthropy of former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and his wife Connie. The funders declined to reveal the exact financial commitments made by each of the contributors. The point of investing in these AI tools is to spur economic mobility, a focus all the funders share, they said. The funders believe there are many ideas for how AI technologies could help match people with resources after a disaster or an eviction, for example, or help a parole officer close out more cases for people who have met all of the criteria but are waiting for the paperwork to be processed. 'As we traded notes on where we were making investments and where we saw broader gaps in the sector, it was readily apparent that there was a real opportunity to come together as a group of cofunders and cofounders to establish a new kind of investment organization," said Kevin Bromer, who leads the technology and data strategy at Ballmer Group. He will also serve as a member on NextLadder's board, which will include three independent board members and representatives from the other funders. NextLadder will be led by Ryan Rippel, who previously directed the Gates Foundation's economic mobility portfolio. The funder group has not yet determined if NextLadder will incorporate as a nonprofit or a for profit organization but said any returns they make from investments will go back into funding new initiatives. NextLadder will partner with AI company Anthropic, which will offer technical expertise and access to its technologies to the nonprofits and companies it invests in. Anthropic has committed around USD1.5 million annually to the partnership, said Elizabeth Kelly, its head of beneficial deployments, which is a team that focuses on giving back to society. 'We want to hand-hold grantees through their use of Claude with the same care and commitment we provide to our largest enterprise customers," Kelly said, referencing Anthropic's large language model. Hooks, of Stand Together, said philanthropy can reduce the riskiness of these types of investments and offer organizations more time to prove out their ideas. 'If we're successful, this will be the first capital to demonstrate what's possible," Hooks said. Researchers like those at the Active Learning Network for Accountability and Performance in humanitarian action have studied some of the risks associated with using AI tools when interacting with sensitive populations or handling high-stakes interactions, for example, in humanitarian contexts. They recommend assessing whether AI is the best tool to solve the problem and, crucially, if it works reliably and accurately enough in high-risk settings. They also recommend assessing tools for bias, considering privacy protections and weighing the cost of potential dependence on a specific provider. The National Institute of Standards and Technology also emphasizes that trustworthy AI systems should be accountable to users and that it should be possible to explain or trace how a tool arrived at a certain conclusion or decision. Hooks emphasized that any AI tools NextLadder invests in will be shaped by the needs and feedback of these frontline workers. Tools that don't work for them, won't succeed, he said. Even with the potential risks of AI tools, he said it's imperative that groups that are struggling to move up the economic ladder have access to new technologies. 'The idea that we would deprive those who are struggling in our country from the benefits of the leading edge solutions is unacceptable," Hooks said. Mark Zuckerberg is doing to AI datacentres what Elon Musk did to Tesla

Source: Instagram/ Mark Zuckerberg Facebook's parent company, Meta , is reportedly constructing some of its new AI data centres inside tents. This move allows the social media giant to rapidly expand capacity at its existing data centre campuses. The strategy essentially mirrors an approach taken by Elon Musk's Tesla in 2018. At that time, Tesla built a new Model 3 assembly line in just two weeks within a large tent outside its main factory. This quick setup significantly increased the car's production, with the tented area reportedly contributing to 20% of all Model 3s produced that week. According to a report by Business Insider, a company spokesperson, while confirming the news, has emphasised that the entire "supercluster" facility isn't solely tent-based. This comes days after company CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company will spend tens and millions of dollars for several multi-gigawatt superclusters to ramp up its compute power. What these tent-based data centres mean for Mark Zuckerberg's AI plans These structures will provide Meta the necessary push in quickly deploying additional AI computing power. Data centres contain complex and expensive equipment that requires precise temperature control to prevent overheating. Building parts of these facilities in tents suggests a prioritisation of speed over traditional construction methods, the report noted. According to SemiAnalysis (via Business Insider), Meta's embrace of this "speed above all else" data centre design is "inspired by xAI's unprecedented time-to-market." The report added that Meta is already building more such facilities, a development that will likely surprise traditional data centre and real estate investors. SemiAnalysis, however, highlighted the use of 'prefabricated power and cooling modules' and 'ultra-light structures' to prioritise speed. However, operating data centres in tents presents challenges, particularly regarding heat. Tents can get very hot, potentially forcing Meta to temporarily shut down workloads during peak summer temperatures. As per SemiAnalysis CEO Dylan Patel, while Meta will likely build permanent data centres in the long term, the company needs these facilities operational 'as soon as possible' in the short and medium term. He added that 'everyone is trying to build data centres as fast as possible in the race to achieve AGI,' and Meta is using tents to 'reduce construction bottlenecks' related to power, data center capacity, and construction crews.
