Saturday's Sandown Tips & Best Bets: G-Force to Hit Sandown Hard
George's Lad (Sandown, 1.50) – each-way @ 13/2 William Hill (1/5 odds, five places)
Kepler's Law (Sandown, 1.50) – each-way @ 18/1 BetVictor (1/5 odds, 5 places)
Go Dante (Sandown, 2.25) – each-way @ 7/1 bet365 (1/5 odds, 5 places)
Goshen (Sandown, 3.35) – win @ 7/1 bet365
Cheltenham is looming large on the horizon as betting sites turn their focus to the biggest betting event of the year, but before all that hullabaloo, there's still the small matter of Imperial Cup day at Sandown to enjoy.
Emma Lavelle's string have been rattling along at a terrific strike-rate since the turn of the year, and the in-form handler appears to have a healthy chance of landing the EBF Handicap Hurdle at Sandown.
The Wiltshire trainer has sent out 16 winners from just 60 runners since January 1 and both Silver Thorn and George's Lad (Sandown, 1.50) look live contenders for the valuable novices' handicap.
Slight preference would be for the latter who bolted up at Doncaster last time, thumping subsequent scorer Calimystic with ease, earning an 11lb rise in the handicap despite jockey Harry Cobden doing his best not to win too far.
Sadly, Cobden is claimed to ride Belliano by his stable, but Liam Harrison is an able deputy aboard a horse which remains unexposed at this trip.
I can't let Kepler's Law (Sandown, 1.50) run unbacked either, especially with former champion jockey Brian Hughes forsaking a normal trip to Ayr to head south.
Laura Morgan's son of Jack Hobbs won in a canter at Leicester at the end of January and clearly operates very well on testing ground, so conditions should be to his liking, and he looks overpriced on horse racing betting sites.
Sandown 1.50 tips
Sandown Imperial Cup tips
Go Dante (Sandown, 2.25) has been campaigned with the Imperial Cup in mind all season and looks primed to make a bold bid to repeat last year's success in the Saturday feature.
True soft ground would have increased confidence in the nine-year-old's chances, but conditions may well still be exacting, and the selection will have plenty of pace to aim at in the straight with at least three confirmed front-runners in opposition.
His latest effort behind Joyeuse in the William Hill Handicap Hurdle at Newbury hinted that he was approaching peak fitness, and he should relish returning to a right-handed track.
Goshen at home in Esher
Goshen (Sandown, 3.35) boasts form figures of 11243 at the Esher venue and has run better on both of his recent starts than his finishing position suggests.
Sent off at 33/1 on betting apps for his penultimate outing over hurdles at Sandown, Gary Moore's popular nine-year-old stayed on well to take third behind the front-running Red Dirt Road who dominated from the outset and got loose on the lead.
The gelding's subsequent display over fences in a warm Ascot handicap chase again highlighted he remains in good heart and this smaller field chase should really play to his strengths as his strike-rate in seven-runner fields or less is eight wins from just 22 starts.

Stockport County can finish first in a congested League One title race
Big spenders Birmingham City and Wrexham may be absent after gaining promotion to the Championship but that doesn't make this season's race to go up from League One any easier. Huddersfield Town have spent well during the summer, especially persuading free-scoring Alfie May to join them instead of staying for the fresh challenge at St Andrew's. He scored 16 times as Blues powered their way to the title last term, was the top scorer in the division with 23 goals the season for Charlton Athletic the campaign before that, and is already off the mark after finding the net in the Terriers' 3-0 home win against Leyton Orient in Saturday's curtain-raiser. Cardiff City will also be expecting to be in the mix after being relegated last term as will Plymouth Argyle, who are in the same boat, while newly-promoted Doncaster could well feature with the shrewd Grant McCann in the hotseat. Luton opened the show on Friday with a 1-0 victory courtesy of a late own goal against Wimbledon at Kenilworth Road and are the 10/3 favourites to be promoted as champions just two years after preparing for life in the Premier League. In The Mixer: Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every week – click here and sign up before Friday to make sure you don't miss the first edition. Their fall from grace has been staggering and it may take them a while to recover from the double relegation nightmare so let's doff our punting cap to the other club at this level whose nickname is The Hatters. Step forward Stockport County who finished third in the league last term before losing a penalty shoot-out to the O's in the play-off semi-finals. They enjoyed 16 wins and four draws at Edgeley Park last season and if they can maintain that form while improving their away record a smidgeon they can surpass the 87 points they collected and go up as champions. Stockport banged in 72 league goals in the 2024/25 campaign which was only bettered by Birmingham and have added Malik Mothersille to their attack for £900,000 after he struck 12 times to help Peterborough narrowly escape the drop into League Two. He has already got off the mark in the 2-0 win at home to Bolton and is each-way value to be top scorer at 20/1 William Hill, bet365 and BoyleSports even though May appeals at 3/1 with bet365 and BetVictor. More Trending Stockport, meanwhile, can deliver a knockout blow to their rivals which hometown hero Ricky Hatton proud of at 7/1 with Betway and they are 21/10 with Sporting Index and SpreadEx to be promoted. Exeter are 11/10 with William Hill and bet365 to be relegated. Elina Svitolina is 4/6 with Sporting Index to beat Naomi Osaka in the Canadian Open quarter-finals, even though the unseeded Japanese star has dropped just one set in four matches so far in Montreal. Taylor Fritz is 6/5 with bet365 to defeat last year's runner-up Andrey Rublev in straight sets as he bids to reach the semis on Centre Court in Toronto. Three wins and a draw in Premier Sports Cup action for Motherwell saw them top their group and safely progress to the next round. They backed that up with a draw against Hertha Berlin last weekend too in final preparation for this test. It's a period of change at Well after Jens Berthel Askou replaced Michael Wimmer, who departed suddenly at the end of last season. It's also a summer of change at Rangers with Russell Martin's appointment seemingly an uninspiring one with the majority of the Gers support. But the early signs will have changed plenty of punter's minds, particularly having progressed in Champions League qualifying in midweek. Rangers rode their luck at times in both legs of the win over Panathinaikos with Jack Butland producing some great saves. But when their chances came along they took them and in Djeidi Gassama they have a young winger that the fans can get excited about after notching in both legs. The pre-season results have been a bit up and down for the Ibrox side but they stepped up when it mattered. This is the sort of game that has slipped them up in the past. Coming on the opening weekend, in the late slot on Saturday and in front of the TV cameras, Gers must start positively if hoping to close the gap to Celtic. A good dilemma for Martin then with Curtis being a standout throughout pre-season and a choice of winger to operate with. For that reason, I'm bailing out and picking an anytime scorer rather than a first scorer - though that could change if Gassama is included from the start. Not fully convinced with the Rangers defence as it stands and Butland has helped them in the two competitive games so far, so fancy Motherwell to score. Rangers have to win early though. Celtic vs St Mirren prediction, free betting tips and odds for Flag Day as Scottish Premiership returns

Celtic host a St Mirren side who were shaky at the beginning of the Premier Sports Cup group stages before finishing with a flourish. Saints don't have European qualifiers to contend with at the start of this season and are tipped once again to be in and around the top six battle come the end of the season. They very nearly spoilt the trophy party at the end of the last season on the final day, when James Forrest scored in injury time to earn Celtic a final point of the season. Now they're looking to do the same again on Flag Day. Celtic's only competitive game since then came a week later when they lost the Scottish Cup final to Aberdeen. There has been discontentment amongst the Hoops support at an apparent lack of transfer business with another Champions League campaign on the horizon. Shin Yamada, Benjamin Nygren, Hayato Inamura, Ross Doohan and the return of Kieran Tierney on a free transfer has so far underwhelmed the supporters. And it remains to be seen if that lack of money spent could come back and bite them, should Rangers mount a challenge under their new ownership and management. Pre-season has been mixed, with an impressive 4-0 win over Newcastle here being backed up by a 5-1 thumping by Ajax less than a week later.
