Vaibhav Suryavanshi's day out at Lord's; what did India U-19 star do during visit to Home of Cricket?

Mint2 days ago
It's a dream for every cricketer to play at Lord's one day in his or career. With his eyes fixed on the Honours Board on the names like KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah and other Indian stalwarts, Vaibhav Suryavanshi's quite ambition of featuring alongside the big names in world cricket took off when the India U-19 team visited the Home of Cricket recently.
Suryavanshi is a part of the India U-19 side in their tour of England. While the whole Indian U-19 team watched Shubman Gill etch his name into history books in Birmingham, the future India stars were given a tour of Lord's where their seniors suffered a collapse while chasing 193 against England in the third Test.
In a video shared by the BCCI, the Blue Colts were in awe of the dreamy stadium as they witnessed Lord's iconic spaces - the Long Room, players' balcony, where they also clicked a group picture. However, Suryavanshi stole the spotlight in a two minute 31 seconds video, where the Rajasthan Royals star was drawn to the Lord's dressing room and its famed Honours Board.
Its not only a tour but an inspiration for the young boys, opined head coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar, who was a part of the tour tour in 1994. 'It's a very big moment. One is the history of Lord's, and second, there are so many great achievements here by our countrymen. It's great to know the legacy this place has.
"We toured Lord's in 1994 as Under-19s as well. So I could relate to what they're feeling — the boards in the dressing rooms where the achievements are written, the fifers and the hundreds — these things really inspire you," Kanitkar said.
Besides the spotlight on Suryavanshi, it was a big day for India U-19 captain Ayush Mhatre, who celebrated his birthday at Lord's balcony. 'It's a very special day for me that my birthday was celebrated at Lord's, and my cake cutting happened at the venue,' Mhatre said.
'There will never be a bigger moment in my life, but this biggest moment feels very special. After seeing all of this, I can't wait for the day when I can come here to play and bat,' added the Chennai Super Kings star. In their tour of England, India won the youth ODI series 3-2 and drew the first youth Test. The second game starts on July 20.

Anderson admits feeling out of place beside Tendulkar with trophy in hand

England pace legend James Anderson confessed that seeing his name alongside the iconic Sachin Tendulkar on a trophy feels "completely out of place," calling it an incredible honour to be associated with "one of the greatest cricketers to have ever lived". The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has rechristened the Test series between India and England as the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, paying tribute to the two titans of the sport. Previously, the contests on English soil were played for the Pataudi Trophy, named after former Indian captains Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi and his son Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi. "It's not necessarily just how huge it is to have a trophy named after you, but alongside Sachin Tendulkar, who for me is one of the greatest ever cricketers to have lived. "I feel completely out of place when I see myself alongside him with the trophy. I hold him in such high regard." Anderson told 'Sky Sports'. "I watched him as a kid, played against him. He's just such an iconic cricketer who's carried the weight of a nation on his shoulders throughout his career and past it as well. So, to share something like this with him is an incredible honour." Both Anderson and Tendulkar are widely regarded as all-time greats. They are the most-capped players in the history of Test cricket. Tendulkar played 200 matches, and Anderson appeared in 188 Tests. Anderson, who claimed 704 wickets in 188 Tests, faced Tendulkar on several occasions during the late 2000s. The 42-year-old also reflected on how detached he sometimes feels from the legacy he's created. "It is strange that when people talk about what I have achieved in cricket, like when I hear about it as if someone's talking about someone else if that makes sense like I don't feel it is me who has achieved all this," he said. Anderson brought the curtain down on his illustrious career last year, stepping aside to make way for England's next generation of fast bowlers. England currently lead the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-1 with the fourth Test slated to begin on Wednesday at Manchester.

Jasprit Bumrah on verge of breaking 2 Wasim Akram records in England; here's what India pacer needs to do in Manchester

Jasprit Bumrah is set to continue in the Indian playing XI for fourth Test against England in Manchester after the visitors suffered twin injury blows in the form of Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh. Bumrah, who took a five-wicket haul each in Leeds (first Test) and Lord's (third Test), was set to be rested at Old Trafford as a part of his workload management. However, with Akash Deep and Arshdeep set to miss the fourth Test, starting on July 23 and the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy on the line, India can't afford to take any risk but to play Bumrah in an attempt to level the series. India currently trail 1-2 after three games. Bumrah, who holds the record of most wickets for India against England on English soil, is on the verge of breaking two Wasim Akram records in case he makes the playing XI next week. The right-arm pacer is just five wickets shy of overcoming Pakistan legend Akram for most Test wickets by an Asian bowler in England. In his 17-year long Test career, Akram played 14 matches in England and took 53 wickets. Bumrah has so far accumulated 49. That's not all. The premier Indian pacer will have a chance to surpass Akram and become the first Asian bowler for most five-wicket hauls in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) countries. Both Bumrah and Akram are stuck at 11 five-wicket hauls currently.
