Kesari Veer review: Suniel Shetty is the only spark in this Chhaava knockoff
The story of warriors who fought to protect the Somnath Temple hasn't been depicted on screen before. While the makers had a promising concept, they failed in execution. The plot gets diluted by forced subplots - romance, family drama, and religious devotion - all stuffed into one narrative. The CGI is shoddy, almost laughable, and the performances are dismissive. None of the songs leave an impression, and even the fight sequences, stylised it with high-speed movements, lack impact. The last few scenes absolutely look like a pirated, low-res version of 'Chhaava', without its impact. The editing department could have easily chopped half of the film, mostly in the first half, to have presentable content. As for the performances, the less said, the better. Suniel Shetty is the only one who brings some gravitas to the screen, while Vivek Oberoi is wasted in a poorly written role. Sooraj Pancholi channels Salman Khan from Veer, and Akanksha pouts and squints her way through the film. Kiran Kumar, however, is a pleasant surprise as a Delhi ruler, but it's heartbreaking to see how the makers insulted veteran Aruna Irani by casting her in a minuscule part.Where 'Kesari Veer' truly frustrates is in its inauthenticity. Sooraj almost mouths Shah Rukh Khan's dialogues — 'haar ke jeetne waale ko baazigar' and 'ek aadmi ka sar do jagah jhukta hai'. The dialogues are so wispy compared to other historical films, and the delivery is abominable. The way the actors move and speak seems so contemporary, mainly the younger ones, making them look like SoBo kids in a school play.By the end of Kesari Veer, you ironically start feeling bad for the team, who went through such a strenuous time making this film. We wish they had a vision. And the only person you actually want to be angry with is yourself, for choosing to watch this film. After truce with CBFC following intense legal battle, rechristened Janaki V v/s State of Kerala gets new release date
After weeks of uncertainty as the film became embroiled in controversy over its title and the name of its central character, the Malayalam legal drama Janaki V v/s State of Kerala (formerly titled Janaki v/s State of Kerala and also marketed as JSK) is finally set to hit screens, with a new release date almost a month later than initially announced. This update came after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) granted JSK a U/A 16+ rating (unrestricted public exhibition, but with parental guidance for children below the age of 16). While the film was initially scheduled for release on June 20, it was first postponed by a week to June 27. However, even as the new date approached, the CBFC did not grant clearance to the movie, demanding that the makers remove the name Janaki — also the name of the Hindu Goddess Sita — from the title and the dialogues. The matter eventually reached the Kerala High Court. Only in SCREEN | Janaki v/s State of Kerala: Janaki is everywhere. But only CBFC sees a problem Following an intense legal battle in which the High Court strongly criticised the CBFC, the censor board informed the court it was ready to issue a certificate if the producers agreed to change the title from Janaki to V Janaki. In a desperate attempt to release the film, the makers agreed, slightly rechristening it as Janaki V v/s State of Kerala. In addition to the title change, it was agreed that the name Janaki would be muted in two instances in the film. Notably, after the court's intervention, the CBFC climbed down from its original demands and reduced the required changes to two, down from the staggering 96 it had initially insisted on, prompting the producers to meet the board halfway. After the necessary edits were made, the film was resubmitted for certification, following which the CBFC issued the U/A 16+ rating. Post the clearance, the makers announced that JSK will release worldwide on July 17. Starring Suresh Gopi, who also serves as the Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas and is the BJP MP from the Thrissur constituency in Kerala, alongside Anupama Parameswaran, Divya Pillai, Shruti Ramachandran, Askar Ali, Madhav Suresh Gopi and Baiju Santhosh in key roles, JSK is written and directed by Pravin Narayanan.

Sooraj Pancholi reveals why Salman Khan cannot ‘resurrect' his career: 'I know...'
Bollywood actor Sooraj Pancholi made his comeback with Kesari Veer: Legends of Somnath after a gap of four years. The news of his comeback arrived after Sooraj Pancholi was acquitted by a special CBI court in Mumbai in Jiah Khan's abetment to suicide case. However, Kesari Veer received mixed reviews from critics and a lukewarm response from the viewers. Amid his return, Sooraj opened up about not reaching out to Salman Khan, who once launched him in Bollywood, for help to 'resurrect' his career. Talking to ETimes, Sooraj mentioned his bond with Salman Khan. He said he doesn't want to bother Salman for work. 'I'm in touch with Salman sir, but I don't want to disturb him. He's a superstar, and I know my limits. Though he launched me in Hero, I don't expect him to resurrect my career. What he's done for me is more than enough, asking for more would be greedy. I'm very grateful for everything he's done for me," he said. Sooraj made his Bollywood debut with the Salman Khan production Hero, which also featured Suniel Shetty's daughter Athiya Shetty. Earlier this year, Salman gave a shoutout to Sooraj's film Kesari Veer: Legends of Somnath on Instagram. Ahead of its release, Salman dropped a photo with Sooraj and wrote, 'Abhi raat hai, subah Sooraj chamkega @soorajpancholi.' The film was released in theatres on May 23. Sooraj Pancholi is the son of actors Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab. He was accused of abetting the suicide of his then-girlfriend Jiah Khan in 2013. In April 2023, the court found him not guilty due to a lack of evidence. In the same interview, the actor said "the worst is over" and he was looking forward to a good future. Referring to it, Sooraj also said in the interview, 'I never went to producers for work. The one question they always had was when would the case end? If I were a producer, I might have the same reservations. But that's behind me now. In this industry, patience is key. The ones who are patient make it, the rest don't. I'm patient. After my acquittal, I didn't expect things to change overnight... I am a different person now, inside and out.'
