Delhi to soon get logistics policy to ease traffic, clean air: Minister Sirsa
The government is exploring dedicated logistics hubs, green freight corridors, and technology-driven solutions — initiatives that promise to ease traffic, cut emissions, and boost the ease of doing business.
Industries Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said the absence of a comprehensive warehousing policy in the past has severely impacted Delhi's environment and economy.
'For years, the national capital suffered from clogged roads, chaotic freight movement, and rising pollution because the previous government failed to act. Traders were left to struggle with outdated systems. Our government is correcting this through a forward-looking policy that will create dedicated logistics hubs, reduce emissions, and ease business operations,' he said.
Delhi currently handles 10 lakh tonnes of freight per day through 1.93 lakh vehicles, 21 per cent of which pass through traffic. The largest share is carried by trucks transporting building materials (4,132 vehicles/day), textiles (3,995), fruits and vegetables (2,569), and food products (2,468), while even pharmaceuticals (559) and automobiles (588) contribute to congestion.
Without proper warehousing zones, these vehicles enter city interiors, clogging major routes and worsening pollution, said an official statement.
Sirsa said the draft policy proposes relocating warehouses to the periphery and shifting last-mile deliveries to electric and CNG vehicles. These measures will cut vehicular emissions and reduce congestion at hotspots like Azadpur, Ghazipur, Naraina, and Karol Bagh.
The upcoming policy is structured around 16 key action points, which collectively aim to overhaul Delhi's logistics landscape. Among the major initiatives are: 24/7 operations for logistics parks through amendments to the Model Shops Act; digital delivery management to optimise truck movement and reduce peak-hour traffic; and creation of designated commercial parking areas with loading bays under the PPP model.
The draft also talks about the development of Urban Consolidation and Logistics Distribution Centres (UCLDCs) to consolidate cargo and shift last-mile delivery to clean fuel vehicles.
Sirsa said the draft policy also proposes merging trade and establishment licences to cut red tape for warehousing businesses.
These action points will directly address bottlenecks, from truck parking shortages to outdated freight handling systems, making Delhi's supply chain more efficient and environmentally sustainable, he said.
The draft policy also outlines a comprehensive set of subsidies to support industry players and encourage sustainable practices.
These include land lease discounts to incentivise traders relocating warehouses from congested city centres, subsidies for technology adoption, and financial support for upgrading cold chains and storage facilities, added Sirsa.

Karnataka government drops plan to set up 2,500 public EV charging stations
Even as 1,04,415 new electric vehicles (EV) have come out on to the roads in Karnataka in 2025, the government has decided to drop its ambitious plan to set up 2,500 public EV charging stations across the State under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom), which is the nodal agency for EV infrastructure in the State, stated that the project has been dropped after not receiving positive response from EV stakeholders. In the Budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for the year 2024–25, he had announced that 2,500 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations will be set up in the State under PPP model while 100 charging stations will be set up by escoms at a cost of ₹35 crore. A government order passed in June this year said that the plan to set up these charging stations has been dropped after considering the explanation provided by the managing director of Bescom. Shiva Shankara N., managing director, Bescom stated that failure to set up public charging stations previously deterred stakeholders from coming forward to set up new stations. 'In 2023 –24, even though there was a government order to set up 585 charging stations under PPP in nine districts, even one station could not be established. In 2024–25, a tender was called to set up 605 EV charging stations in the remaining 22 districts. While no bid was received for 18 districts, there was a single bidder for the other four. However, other government departments did not cooperate with the agencies which were awarded the tender when it came to land leasing. It was not possible for Bescom to identify land where the agencies could set up stations according to their regulations,' he explained. He further said that with not many EVs operational on the roads, agencies would be financially burdened if they established charging stations. Companies highlight challenges EV charging infrastructure providers said that they face many key challenges when it comes to setting up public charging stations. Talking about the mismatch between demand and supply locations, Raghav Bharadwaj, CEO, a provider of EV charging solutions said, 'Most EV users—especially individual two-wheeler and four-wheeler owners—prefer to charge their vehicles where they already spend significant time, such as at home, office, cafes, or malls. Unfortunately, many government-allocated sites for charging (like bus depots, government land, or offices) are not aligned with natural user behavior or traffic flow, making them commercially unviable.' He also said that inter-departmental coordination between Bescom, BBMP, and traffic police, which is often slow and complex leads to companies not having access to high utility spaces like curbside parking spots and electric pole-based charging, where people already park their vehicles to sleep, work, eat, or play. 'Deploying chargers in low-traffic areas with no guaranteed demand is risky and capital-intensive. Private players are wary of investing without clarity on land usage, electricity connection timelines, or return on investment. The PPP model, as currently structured, does not de-risk or incentivise early private participation adequately,' Mr. Bharadwaj further said. Private players demand mandating charger integration into real estate development, creating awareness among citizens and incentivising infrastructure to encourage more EV charger usage. EV users say that they are currently forced to charge the batteries of their vehicles at home as public infrastructure is unreliable. 'There are many apps which show where public chargers are located. But when I go there, they might be out of service, or the charger might not be compatible with my vehicle. The government should provide more reliable public chargers in the city similar to how there are many petrol pumps,' said Aarathy Praveen, a regular EV user. There are a total of 5.95 lakh EVs on road in Karnataka according to the data available with the Transport Department. Currently, to cater to this demand, the government has directed Bescom to take necessary steps for escoms to set up 100 charging stations at a cost of ₹35 crore.

Adani-Total Gas Q1 net profit falls 8% on lower domestic gas availability
Adani Total Gas Ltd on Monday reported an 8 per cent fall in its June quarter net profit after a cut in supply of cheaper domestically produced gas led to higher input prices. Net profit was ₹162 crore in April-June - the first quarter of 2025-26 fiscal year - compared with ₹177 crore a year back, according to a company statement. Cost of natural gas, which the firm converts into CNG for sale to automobiles and pipes to household kitchens for cooking, rose 31 per cent to ₹1,049 crore in the quarter. This is because lower allocation of cheaper domestic gas, called APM for CNG segment, had to be replaced with high-priced gas from other sources. Revenue from operations rose by 21 per cent to ₹1,491 crore "on account of the higher volume, primarily on CNG segment," the firm said. During the quarter, the firm added one CNG station to take the network strength to 650 and expanded piped connection to 9.90 lakgh by adding 26,869 new homes. Combined CNG and piped natural gas (PNG) volume increased 16 per cent year-on-year to 267 million standard cubic meters, it said. On the recently signed partnership with Jio-bp - the operating brand of Reliance Industries and BP's fuel retailing joint venture, ATGL said its select fuel outlets will offer Jio-bp's high-performane petrol and diesel. Also, within ATGL's licensed areas, select Jio-bp petrol pumps will integrate ATGL's CNG dispensing units. "During the quarter, we achieved a robust year-on-year volume growth of 16 per cent, driven by a 21 per cent increase in CNG volumes. We are continuing expansion of our CGD networks across all 34 Geographical Areas (GAs) with over 14,000 inch-km of backbone steel pipelines, 650 CNG stations and are very close to touching 1 million consume₹base," said Suresh P Manglani, ED & CEO of Adani Total Gas Ltd (ATGL). He said EV charging points have increased to over 3,800. "This all-round superior performance was delivered while APM gas allocation for CNG was at 43 per cent (of the requirement) and the balance supplies were being offset with allocation of higher priced new wells and HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature) gas. As a result of our continued efforts to build a robust gas sourcing portfolio, enhanced operational efficiency and digitalisation of processes, we have ensured 100 per cent reliability of supply and continuation of prudent pricing to our consume₹both for PNG and CNG," he said. On the way forward, he said ATGL is focused on expanding not only its city gas distribution (CGD) infrastructure across its licensed geographical areas but also LNG, e-mobility solutions, and CBG (Compressed Biogas) businesses. "During the quarter, we commissioned our first CBG station in Haryana. Additionally, our recent partnership with Jio-bp, which will see both partne₹offering each other's fuel options at select outlets, is expected to help us accelerate the addition of dealer-owned-dealer-operated (DODO) and company-owned-dealer-operated (CODO) CNG stations with Jio-bp fuels across all our 34 GAs," he said.

EVs and CNG vehicles to replace old garbage fleet in Coimbatore
Coimbatore Corporation has initiated the gradual replacement of its conventional waste collection vehicles with electric and compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered alternatives. This transition is part of the civic body's broader strategy to modernise solid waste management operations and reduce vehicular emissions across the city. A total of 25 electric vehicles (EVs) and 25 CNG vehicles have been procured by the Corporation. Of these, 15 EVs have recently been inducted into service, and the remaining units are expected to be deployed within the next month. According to officials, the new EVs offer an extended operational range of 1,000 to 1,200 hours per full charge and are capable of transporting up to 1.5 tonnes of waste, more than double the 800-kg capacity of the existing vehicles. 'The vehicles require seven to eight hours for a complete charge. With the increased load capacity, we are able to carry out waste removal more efficiently,' a senior Corporation official said. In parallel, the Corporation is in the planning stage of establishing a 250 metric tonne capacity bio-CNG plant at the Vellalore dump yard. 'If the project materialises, we intend to process segregated organic waste to generate bio-CNG. We are also considering applicable subsidies under waste-to-energy schemes,' the official added. The Corporation currently operates 110 three-wheeled vehicles and 815 waste collection trucks. Around 100 of these are awaiting fitness certification, and vehicles over 15 years old are being phased out. 'We are planning to procure an additional 250 vehicles as part of our fleet renewal programme. These will gradually replace ageing vehicles and help improve operational efficiency,' the official said.
